Things That Drive Me Up The Wall
Posted on May 19, 2009 under me, rant | 19 CommentsI really dread calling restaurants or hotels to make reservations. I can’t understand why those people who are in charge of answering the phone calls do not understand what I am asking them. Yesterday, I called The Terrace coffee house at Royale Bintang, Mutiara Damansara to reserve a table for this Sunday’s hi-tea. After taking down my phone number and the number of people who will be attending, I asked the girl if their hi-tea is RM25 NETT or RM25 ++. She answered, “It’s usually RM25 NETT lah“. Usually? Ok…..nevermind.
Then I asked her if she knows how many dishes are available for the hi-tea. Her answer? “What? Dessert?” Ok……I repeated my question. Then she said, “Oh, we have many lah. We have main course, dessert, many lah”. So, to make it easier for her, I asked her what are the dishes for the Main Course. This is what she said – “have lamb, chicken…..err…you wait ah…I check with my friend first”. Friend? Since when is her friend involved? After some mumbling in the background, a guy came onto the phone and asked, “You want to know about dessert? Yes we have many dessert.”
That’s it. I didn’t want to waste anymore time talking to them because I know my blood pressure was going up. I just told the guy that I have reserved a table this coming Sunday at 12pm. He just said ok, ok and put down the phone.
Somehow I have this feeling that they did not reserve a table for me.

It drives me up the wall when I have to do other people’s jobs for them. If you don’t understand your job, why do it? A common problem everywhere from what I can see.

this is so typical of Malaysian customer service. Lucky you were not greeted by : Nanti dulu ! Abang ! Tak paham apa cakap dia..jom bang jawap !!

Happens very often, boils down to the sad state of English out there. They either don’t know or have problems describing the types of food, and it looks like they don’t know the word “colleague” either. That’s probably the extent of their English vocabulary, about 100 words including the bad words, haha, sad but true

cool down cool down…
some chains / restaurants very “act-sy” type cos their place always FULL…do they dont mind if u book or dont book…. sometimes i rather pay a little more for some comfort, pampering..OPPS SERVICE at your heart.

I’m not surprised. I;ve similar experiences as well…..even at 5-star hotels. Malaysia is not well-known for good service…anywhere.

Biasalah this one. How many times have we come across “professional” answers during the 1st line .. Hello Good morning how can I help you … in a matsalleh slang and thereafter they cannot understand the 2nd line onwards? hahahaha.

Why so unprofessional wan. Nevermind this Sunday complain kau kau. If not, put in newspaper. Hhahaha And they charge “Service Tax” or not? If we’re paying for service tax and we getting this kinda service, better ask them to refund. can ah ?

Probably the girl who answered your call was just a trainee who doesn’t speak very good English. I know they can really make you boil with their stupidity. Maybe you can call again tomorrow to reconfirm your reservation.
