Baking Classes For Children During School Holidays

Posted on Nov 29, 2010 under ashley, food, good stuff | 24 Comments

To take Ashley’s mind off Troy (from my previous post), I signed her up for a cupcake making class today *shake head*  I found out about this class from Jasmine’s blog.  It is organized by Marche Restaurant at the Curve. You can check it out here.   I signed Ashley up for the Cupcake Making class which according to their website, is to prepare the cupcakes from scratch and then decorate them with fresh ingredients.

However I was a tad disappointed that there was no cupcake making….only decorating.  I asked the staff what happened and she said due to unforeseen circumstances that the class started 30 mins late (supposed to be from 2pm to 4pm), there was no time to bake.  Oh well, never mind.  Didn’t want to make a big fuss since Ashley was so excited to get started.  Here are the photos taken today…

Overall, this is a fun workshop for kids.  They have a different theme each week.  Last week was Pizza making, this week is Cupcakes, next week is Fresh Sandwich making and more.  You can check out the schedule from their website.  I am thinking of signing up another class for Ashley ….. the Marche Bread Making class. I think I would enjoy that one too ;)

For your info – The classes are only conducted from Monday to Friday (2pm to 4pm) .  Each session cost Rm27 nett.  Fee includes :-

*  certificate of attendance

* recipe

* taking home your own creation

* refreshment ( a glass of coke)

* Picky meal voucher

a mother’s dilemma

Posted on Nov 27, 2010 under ashley, being a mom | 28 Comments

When Ashley was going in and out of the hospital recently, she spent her time munching on koko crunch (provided by the hospital) and watching tv.  Her favourite is the Disney Channel.  Guess which show kept playing over and over again?

hsm1

Yup…the High School Musical.

Ashley became hooked and since she watched this show so many times, I even dreamt about it one night :P   Then she asked for a HSM school bag for next year and we got one for her during Parkson’s clearance sales – only rm30 :)

SAM_0576

My dilemma started yesterday.

I didn’t really know how much she loves HSM until she showed me this…..

SAM_0574

a love letter to……..

hsm

Troy (the lead actor aka Zac Efron).  She even put it in an envelope and asked me to send it out to him.  I was shocked!  Writing a love letter? Where did she learn that from?  She kept telling me that she likes him, he is her friend, etc.  Then she asked me to go to the US with her to find Troy.  Where did she learn all these from?  Did I tell you that she’s only 5?  *pulls hair*   I thought I would deal with problems like friendships in school, homework, eczema, what clothes to wear, etc….but definitely NOT this.   I don’t find this cute at all. I am worried and  I  really don’t know what to do.  I should have stopped her from watching such dramas :(

happy friday2-teaforjoy

Woo Hoo…Friday is just a few hours away.  Another week is over.  The past few weekends were really busy for us so I really look forward to a quiet one this week.  No shopping malls I hope unless hubs wants to check out some dietary supplements. I feel like having steamboat at our usual restaurant as it has been a while since we had one.  I have enrolled Ashley into a maths class which starts this weekend and art classes that starts in December.  Hopefully this would keep her busy during the holidays.   Have a great weekend peeps!

Vintage-inspired rings

I absolutely adore rings. Besides necklace and bracelets, I love to accessorize my outfit with rings too.   Do you like rings?  If yes, do check out Moms Little Treasure Box for some vintage-style flower cabochons rings.

rings

Aren’t they lovely? What’s great about these rings is that the bands are adjustable. I like the colour of the antique brass plated ring.  If you like rings too, pick one up today from Moms Little Treasure Box.    They also make very good birthday or Christmas gift ;)

Probiotics For Children

Posted on Nov 23, 2010 under children, good stuff, health | 27 Comments

For the past 1 month, Ashley has been on antibiotics because of the abscess on her knee.  The first bottle was from her paed for a week, the 2nd bottle was from a GP which I took her to see for 2nd opinion and then followed by 10 days of antibiotic given by the paediatric surgeon who treated the abscess.  I was really worried about her taking too much of it.  When I asked the surgeon, he said there is no choice but to prescribed because of the bacteria infection.  After I voiced my concern, he prescribed Ashley with a box of Restore Probiotic. This is to restore friendly bacteria :)

SAM_0571

a box of 15 sachet.  Ashley is to take one a day.

Probiotics has a list of good  health-promoting characteristics such as

To maintain a correct microbial balance in the human intestines;

To kill a large number of disease-causing bacteria, yeasts and viruses;

To stop diarrhoea and constipation

To produce a number of vitamins;

To alleviate the symptoms of lactose intolerance;

To prevent some forms of colon cancer;

To prevent and treat some forms of food allergies;

To decrease flatulence.

Don’t I sound like someone from the medical assistant school? *wink*

SAM_0570

The paediatric surgeon also suggested that Ashley takes a bottle of Yakult every day.  It helps to balance the digestive system, improve nutrient absorption and boost natural defenses.  He told us that he drinks one bottle a day :)   Since it is a recommendation from the doctor, we have been giving her a bottle a day.  Do you let your children take Probiotics?  What about Yakult?

A trip to the zoo

Elaine suggested a zoo trip last Wednesday since it was a Public Holiday.  Ashley has not been to the zoo before and she was so excited.  We only told her about the trip the night before so that she won’t keep asking about it :)   On that day, she woke up real early and asked us to wake up fast so we can all go to the zoo :P

Ashley was looking forward to seeing the Flamingoes.  It’s her favourite because they are pink.  However, we saw these birds which I think are storks?  I told her they are flamingoes….hhahahahahaha.  Wrong info.

We saw many animals that day. Here are some photos taken from Elaine’s.

Good friends :)

We managed to see penguins, reptiles and some mammals like cows, deers, etc.  Oh, we sat on the buggy too and it took us around to see the camels, hippos, flamingoes before stopping at the amphitheater to catch the last bit of the seal show.  It was almost 12 when we left the zoo.  The trip to the zoo was very enjoyable and the weather was nice to us.   However Ashley was quite upset that she didn’t get to see the zebras and orang utans.  We plan to go back again soon.

Tea Party At School

Posted on Nov 19, 2010 under ashley, being a mom | 15 Comments

Ashley’s school organized 2 tea parties this week, one on Tuesday and one today.  The tea party on Tuesday was held amongst her classmates.  I decided to pack some party packs for her and her classmates at the very last minute :)   I wanted to buy the small brown paper bags but couldn’t find it at the shops near my office.  I don’t understand why it’s so hard to find them. It’s not like I am looking for rust free knives. Anyway, I had to make do with zipper bags.  I got some smaller plastic bags (so not environmentally-friendly) and ribbons too.

SAM_0545

I put 2 marshmallows in each small plastic bag and tie a brown bear ribbon around it for the boys

SAM_0547

I did the same but with pink ribbons for the girls

SAM_0548

Filled the zipper bags with some rice crackers, sweets, choc and the marshmallows.

I’m glad I managed to get something for Ashley’s class.  No more tea parties until next year ;)   ‘Horrordays’ start today and I overheard Ashley saying that she’s bored this afternoon.  Dear God, please help me to get through the next 6 weeks.

a lucky girl who loves dogs

Ashley is such a lucky girl.   She received another present a few days ago :)

SAM_0526

The present is from dear Aunty Pei Yi, HQ and QQ

SAM_0521

It is a beautiful knapsack which was handmade by Aunty Pei Yi.  I love the pink polka dot fabric which is just perfect for a girl who loves pink.  Another great thing about the knapsack is the dog applique which was handsewn onto it by Pei Yi.  Ashley loves dogs and her eyes lit up as soon as she saw it.

SAM_0522

This knapsack is called BowWow and is available for sale at nivniv Handmade.  Made from 100% Indian cotton, this knapsack features a huge pocket on the inside as well as  matching cotton fabric as lining.

SAM_0524

Here is Ashley using the BowWow knapsack.  She brought it to school yesterday as it was her tea party day.  She said she wants to show her friends her cute Labrador bag :)

Thank you very much Pei Yi, HQ & QQ.  Everyone who saw the bag exclaimed how beautiful the bag is.  This delightful knapsack is perfect for the library, swimming, music lessons and more.  The applique picture on the bag can be personalized according to what your child likes. :) If you are looking for a unique gift ideas for children, then you may want to check out this BowWow knapsack at nivniv Handmade.

Paper Dolls

Posted on Nov 15, 2010 under ashley, children, good stuff | 27 Comments

When we were in Jonker Street, Malacca recently, I chanced upon a stall selling paper dolls.  Seeing them definitely brings back cherished memories of my childhood.  I used to play them with my sisters.  The paper dolls came with outfits for all kinds of occasion.   I also remember creating my own outfits for the paper dolls.

SAM_0146

There are 3 different sets for sale and I bought all of them for Ashley.  It cost 50 cents per piece.

SAM_0194

Here is the missy playing with the paper doll with her por por.  She prefers those with dresses like a princess :)

Did you play with them when you were a kid? They are such endearing childhood treasure.  I would prefer Ashley to play with paper dolls than Barbie dolls :)

Side Effects Of Appetite Supressant Pills

Posted on Nov 15, 2010 under diet | No Comment

Someone I know is taking Appetite suppressant diet pills. According to the doctor who prescribed the pills to him, there is a whole list of side effects.  One may experience dryness in mouth, headache and even lack of sleep.  While this person did not experience any headache, he drank a lot of water due to mouth dryness and also he does not feel sleepy at night.  I think the appetite suppressant diet pills may contain caffeine.   It has been a week since he started taking the pills and I was told that he has lost about 3 kg.  Amazing eh?
