What She Got For Christmas

Posted on Jan 31, 2012 under ashley, gift | 13 Comments

Last Christmas, hubs Santa gave Ashley a pair of Barbie roller skates.  Actually they are rollers with straps to be attached to the shoes.  I didn’t know Santa would give her this present.  He said she told him that she wished she had a pair of roller skates :P   Of course the missy was happy when she saw the gift.

I was a bit worried that she may fall and hurt herself.  Yeah, I’m a Worrier Mum while daddy is the cool one.  In case you don’t know, I am a Helicopter Mum too…always hovering out there :)   Anyway, after a week or so, Ashley mastered the art of skating.

Yay…the happy one zipping around the house.  Dressed in pink from top to toe *slap forehead*  She is waiting for us to take her to the park to skate.  I don’t think our park is “skate-friendly’ though :(

Meeting Up With My Special Friends

Posted on Jan 30, 2012 under friends, gift | 12 Comments

I mentioned in my earlier post that I met up with some special people during our trip back to Ipoh for Chinese New Year.  I got to know them through blogging and we have been ‘online’ friends for a few years already. We planned to meet up last year but at the last minute, there was a change of plans and we couldn’t meet up.  So this year, I was determined to drop by and meet these lovely people.

Can you guess where this place is?  I love these beautiful century-old shady rain trees in this lake garden.  Some of the branches even went across to the other side of the road.   That’s the hometown of my dear friends.  We were in beautiful Taiping on Day 3 of the CNY.

I finally got to meet the 4 pretty ladies in Taiping. They are Sheoh Yan, Yvonne, Angeline and Hayley.

Besides treating us to a sumptuous meal, these ladies even gave us some delicious cookies from Taiping.  I also received a nice top from them.  Forgot to snap a pic of it though.

Thank you very much for your hospitality.  It was great to finally meet my dear friends from Taiping.  I hope to meet all of you more often.  Taiping is such a lovely town.  So peaceful and scenic.  It has been more than 8 years since I last visited Taiping.  We’ll definitely be back :)

We’re finally back.  Home sweet home.  We went back to Pomelosville for Chinese New Year celebration as usual.  Had tons of fun seeing my relatives and bffs.  I also got to meet some very special people during this trip. I’ll blog about it next.   Ashley is very happy because she doesn’t have to go to school this whole week and has been receiving lots of angpows :)   Here are some photos taken a few days ago.

Ashley had a fun time in the pool at my friend’s house.  The mommies were busy chatting while the kids were in the pool.

Another round of eating last night. BBQ at a friend’s house.

In 2 more days, school will resume and so is work too.  Boo Hoo….the holidays are over!  Since we were away for so many days, there is a huge of pile of laundry to do and cleaning around the house.  Some of the things in my to-do list are to go on a diet after a few days of eating non-stop and also to check out the sterling silver earrings at ZuluMoon.com.  So how was your CNY celebration?

In just a few more days, we will usher in the Year of the Dragon.  I am so looking forward to seeing my relatives and friends.  Lots of catching up to do and feasting on sumptuous food.

Giving My Old Lanterns An Updated Look

Posted on Jan 16, 2012 under crafts, home | 16 Comments

I bought a pair of Vietnamese lanterns last year to hang at the porch.  After a year, the colours on one side of the lanterns are fading.  Inspired by Sasha’s feat last year, I decided to give my lanterns a makeover.

l1

Can you see the lighter shade on one side?

l2

I used some fake peonies and cherry blossom to cover the fading part of the lanterns :)   This is the first time I use a glue gun and I got burned a few times…hehehehe.

Ta da…..  here are my lanterns after the makeover.  I spent about rm30 on the fake peonies and cherry blossoms for this DIY.

a funny incident at school

Posted on Jan 09, 2012 under ashley, funny | 17 Comments

Ashley told me this last Thursday when she came back from school.   This is what she said – ” Mom, you know something?  Today teacher asked me to sweep the floor“.  I was surprised and I thought perhaps her class teacher has allocated the chores for the kids in class like cleaning the white board, etc.  I remember doing that when I was a kid and enjoyed it.  I asked her why and did the rest of the class help out?  She replied, “Because I sharpened my colour pencils on the floor. Only me and my friend (the girl sitting next to her) have to sweep the floor“.  Hehehehehehehe….These 2 girls have thrown the pencil shavings on the floor.  I told her that next time, she has to sharpen the pencils at the dustbin and must not leave the shavings on the floor.  She doesn’t do that at home and I wonder why she did it in school.  It is good that her teacher is teaching them to be responsible.  When you dirty the classroom, you have to clean it up.  Then she said something that made me burst out laughing.  “Am I the maid now?“  Ashley Oh Ashley!

LeX Slide @ Empire Shopping Gallery

Posted on Jan 07, 2012 under ashley, family | 15 Comments

Thanks for all your well wishes in my earlier post.  Ashley is still coughing and has a runny nose.  She skipped school on Friday because her cough was pretty bad.

During the New Year holiday weekend, we decided to check out the Empire Shopping Gallery.   That was our 2nd time there.  I kinda like this mall because it is not that packed and there are some pretty good stores and eateries there.  We had dinner inside Jaya Grocer.  I’m sure you would be wondering what kind of restaurant is inside a supermarket eh?  Hubs spotted  The Four Seasons Restaurant which is famous in Bayswater, London for its BBQ Roast Duck.  My dad has been raving about Four Seasons in Bayswater and he never fail to eat there every time he goes to London.  Well, I guess there is no need to fly to London now :P   The roast duck was good and we will definitely be back for more.  Sorry, no pics of the dinner.

Right after dinner time, Ashley spotted the LeX Slide which is the World’s Tallest Indoor Tube Slide. She was so excited and kept bugging us to let her go on the slide.  We weren’t that sure we would want her to try it out because the slide is 50 metres ~~ 5 storey high but she was adamant.  In the end, we let her have some fun since she said she’s not scared.

This is how the slide looks like.  Photo is from google image.

Another photo of the LeX slide via EwinEe.com.  I don’t think I dare to slide down.

My little daredevil coming down.  I didn’t have a camera with me so I used my handphone to take this blurry photo.

Yay! She did the slide!  The first thing she said to me after the ride was “It Was Awesome, Mom“.   She wants to go again but we told her next time :)
