why mommy?

Posted on Sep 01, 2010 under ashley, funny | 13 Comments

I like to munch on kuaci (sunflower seeds) sometimes.  Yesterday night, while I was having some kuaci, Ashley came over and asked me….

Ashley :  “Mommy, are you a bird?”

Me : “Noooo…?”

Ashley :  “Then why are you eating bird seeds?”

I wonder where she learned that from?

scary

We did go out last evening for dinner.  We went to the Otak Otak Place at the Tropicana Mall for dinner and walked around the mall after that.  As we were walking towards one of the shops, Ashley who was skipping beside me suddenly grabbed my hand and appeared really scared.  She was on the verge of crying and I asked her what was wrong.  She kept asking to go home. I told her that everything was ok because mommy and daddy were there.  After she had calmed down, I asked her again what happened and why she was so scared.  She told me not to ask her about it anymore.  So I didn’t until bedtime.   I talked to Ashley and pleaded with her softly to tell me what actually happened.

First she asked me not to scold her.  Then she said, she saw a white face. OMG!!!!!!  It was my turn to be scared.  I know the Hungry Ghost Festival is over but it is still the 7th month in Chinese Lunar Calendar.  I quickly asked her if she was very scared.  She said yes.  I asked her if that white face has long hair.  She shook her head.  She said it was wearing colourful clothing.  Hmm….I thought a ghost would be wearing something white huh?  Then, she said, it has a …….

a RED NOSE!

PHEW….it was actually a CLOWN that she saw at the mall!  And there I go jumping into conclusion that she has seen something else.  Ashley is really afraid of the clowns.  She was too scared to tell me it was a clown because I have always told her that if someone were to smile or say Hello to her, she should be polite and smile back.  What a scare she gave her silly mommy!

What To Do On Weekends

Posted on Aug 28, 2010 under ashley, family, funny | 5 Comments

We stayed at home the whole day yesterday because hubs was working.  Today is Saturday and we do not have any plans.  The weather is unbearably hot these few days and going to a place with air-conditioned sounds like a very good idea :D   Perhaps we should go out for dinner at a mall?  Ashley has been asking us why we are not going out since it’s the weekend.  I think she’s beginning to be  like me, a Shopping Queen :)

magic

Once in a while, my mom would burn incense (kemenyan) and she would go round the house holding the incense burner. She said it’s good to get rid of mosquitoes. Last night she did it again and there was a lot of smoke everywhere. Ashley thought it was funny and asked my mom to put the burner down.  Then she sat in front of it and started saying some magical spells – “Salaga-doola, menchika-boola

I don’t want to go to school

Posted on Aug 19, 2010 under ashley, being a mom | 25 Comments

Ashley has been telling me that she doesn’t want to go to school.  It is getting more and more often, especially before bed or when we are in the car and about to drop her off.    I asked her why and she said her teacher (Teacher Joey) scolds her.  There are 2 teachers in every class and Ashley’s teachers are Mrs. D who teaches English and BM, and Teacher Joey who teaches Mandarin.   She always tell me that she doesn’t like Teacher Joey because she scolds her.  I asked her why and she said she did not pay attention :D

Last night, she couldn’t find her Chinese workbook and was pretty scared.  Poor girl.   I told her not to worry and I would go up to her class the next morning to check with the teacher.   So this morning, I went up with her and apparently her teacher has taken all their Chinese workbooks as she wanted to check them.  So whilst I was there, I asked how Ashley was doing and I told Teacher Joey that she has been telling me that she does not want to go to school.  Her teacher told me that she’s doing well in school but she loves to talk and disturb her classmates sometimes.  Ahhhhhh…..I know my daughter loves to talk and she does that at home all the time.  Ashley doesn’t like it when the teacher reprimands her :)    Being the only child at home, I can understand that she gets very excited when she sees her friends.  Hence, she loves to talk to them.  I explained that to Teacher Joey.  Guess I’ll just have to keep reminding Ashley to pay attention, listens to the teachers and don’t disturb her friends.  Hopefully she would love going to school again  *sigh*

her favourite phrase

Posted on Aug 16, 2010 under ashley, being a mom | 32 Comments

Ashley has a favourite phrase which says like over 20 times a day, every day. Whenever she is crossed with someone or doesn’t get her way, she would say this phrase……

I DON’T WANT TO FRIEND YOU

She’ll come home from school and tell me that she does not want to friend her teacher because she got scolded and she doesn’t want to friend her friends because they don’t want to friend her.  Then sometimes she doesn’t want to friend her daddy because he goes out with friends, etc.  I’ve told her many many times that it is not nice to say this but she still does it :(

coconut

About 4 weeks ago, I started buying coconut water for Ashley to drink.  My mother suggested this as it helps to reduce heatiness in the body and at the same time, Shireen also told me that she buys coconut water for girls.  Ashley’s body is pretty heaty despite not taking much fried food or cookies.  I found a seller near my office and a coconut cost rm2.70.  One whole coconut has about 18ml of juice (about 3 cups).  I buy it once a week and on other days, I would boil unsweetened barley water and “chat sing cha” (herbal drink) for her.  I hope that drinking coconut water on a weekly basis will help to reduce the excessive heat in Ashley’s body.   According to sources,  coconut water is more nutritious than whole milk and healthier than Orange Juice :)

I googled and found more health benefits :

  1. Keep the body cool and at the proper temperature.
  2. Orally re-hydrate your body, it is an all natural isotonic beverage.
  3. Carry nutrients and oxygen to cells.
  4. Naturally replenish your body’s fluids after exercising.
  5. Raise your metabolism.
  6. Boost your immune system.
  7. Detoxify and fight viruses.
  8. Cleanse your digestive tract.
  9. Control diabetes.
  10. Aid your body in fighting viruses that cause the flu, herpes, and AIDS.
  11. Balance your PH and reduce risk of cancer.
  12. Treat kidney and urethral stones.
  13. Boost poor circulation

What Not To Wear

Posted on Aug 11, 2010 under ashley, fashion, funny | 20 Comments

We were getting ready to go out for dinner last Sunday night when I heard Ashley saying this to her super hero daddy.

Ashley :  Daddy, are you wearing this shorts (tonight)?

Hubs :  Yes I am.

Ashley :  You have to change daddy.  You cannot wear shorts when we go out.

I was trying hard not to laugh out loud when I heard that.  I remember saying the same thing to my hubs not too long ago and I guess the lil missy heard it.  Ahhh….I don’t have to nag tell my hubby what to do anymore.  I have an assistant now :D

So, did hubs change into long pants that night? You bet he did.  Anything for his princess……..muahahahahahahaaha

closet full of shoes

I decided  to organize the shoe closet over the weekend instead of looking for the multi color led christmas lights.  Guess whata?  I discovered some of Ashley’s shoes which have not been worn :D   They are still a bit big for her now (mostly size 12 and she’s wearing size 11).  The thing is I was really surprised to see the shoes because I have totally forgotten about them.  Luckily I decided to do some spring cleaning.  If not, I think Ashley’s feet would have grown too big to fit into them.

My favorites are the the pink ones on top left hand corner and the white one on the right.   The white shoes are from Sketchers which my MIL bought in Toronto.  It cost CAN19.90 only.  Ain’t that cheap?  Saw a similar one here for around RM140 *shake head*   Do you think this will stop me from buying shoes for her?  Hmmm….I don’t think so :)   She has a shoeholic mom ;)
