First Visit To The Dentist

Last week when I was checking the ulcer in Ashley’s mouth, I saw a lower incisor tooth coming out.  I started to panic a bit because the permanent tooth is growing in but the baby tooth is still intact.   I guess this happens when the permanent tooth did not grow directly under the baby tooth hence it is not pushed out.  With these online college classes you can broaden your understanding of oral science with a degree as a Dental Hygienist.  This means we have to make a trip to the dentist *wipe sweat*.

When I was a kid, the thought of going to the dentist terrified me.  I still remember the big and mean-looking nurse in white uniform at the government clinic. The strong antiseptic smell in the dental clinic was just as terrifying.  I don’t want Ashley to feel the same way as I did so I decided to prepare her for it.  I told her that the dental clinic is nice and has lots of toys and books.  The dentist is just going to check her new tooth and see what we should do.  So the missy was pretty calm and looked forward to seeing the dentist.

Ashley having her teeth checked by the handsome dentist.  She was asking a lot of questions like “what are you doing now, what are you using, is it sharp, are you going to take out my tooth?”…..hahaha.  The dentist was very gentle, told her what he planned to do and answered all her questions.  First he said he will put some minty gel on her gums to numb the area.  Then he will put a magic potion aka the needle to loosen the tooth.  Then he would have to use an elevator to pull out the tooth because his fingers are not strong enough   Ashley was a bit scared when the magic potion was being administered.  The extraction was over and done with in less than 5 minutes.    No drama at all *phew*

for the love of hello kitty

I am sure many have seen this debit card by Hong Leong Bank?

Well, I have a Hello Kitty fan at home and she was asking for this card.  I didn’t really read what is this card for and I thought it’s an ATM card.  Silly me!  This is a Debit Card which you will get when you open a Savings Account with Hong Leong Bank.  Children are not allowed to have an ATM card or a Debit card hence they cannot open this Savings Account with the bank.  In order not to disappoint the Hello Kitty fan, her dear aunt made her one *shake head*

The back of the card which is the give away as the missy asked how come her card does not have a black strip and it was not embossed   She probably also expect the card to arrive by courier and wrapped in foam rolls. Nevertheless, she loves the Hello Kitty card which was made with ♥.  Just one of the things that her aunts would do for her.  She’s so spoilt!

Oh, Hong Leong Bank did give her some sweet pink Hello Kitty balloons after all.  Did I mention that she’s spoilt?

Hey everyone.  Many thanks for your comments, feedback and advice on my previous post.  Eventhough I don’t like the method being used to discipline the children in the school, I guess I have to accept it as long as Ashley is attending a Chinese school.  I hope Ashley will learn to accept this too. She seemed okay after school today.  Oh, she also brought back a form which at first I thought was for extra classes in school or a flyer on yoga certification course.

It is actually for the RM100 cash handouts for students in Malaysia, given by the government.  Many have already received the monies at the end of last year or beginning of this year.  I thought there won’t be any for Year 1 pupils and we would have to wait till next year.  I am quite surprised to see the form   Has anyone with Year 1 children collected the cash already?  Is this a one-off thing?

ting xie

Ashley’s teacher gave the students a few chinese words to write as homework yesterday.  Then today, the kids have to do ting xie (Chinese spelling) on those words they did yesterday.

Ashley has 2 mistakes and she left 2 spaces blank because she doesn’t know how to write the words.

She came home and told me that her teacher smacked her hand twice with a ruler because she did not study at home, hence the mistakes.  The teacher also threw her book on the floor.  She did the same thing to a few of them who made mistakes   Then Ashley took a paper and drew a picture of her teacher.

She used a ruler and smack the drawing *shake head*.  I told her that she cannot do that and she said it’s pretend play.  She said her teacher didn’t do her homework so she smacked her *sigh*

I am not against punishment in school especially when the children misbehaved but physical punishment when the children do not know how to do their work is not right.  This will instil fear in the kids, especially those who have just started going to a big school.  Ashley has been saying that she doesn’t want to go to school because her teacher is fierce

Is physical force the only method to punish children in school?  Discipline isn’t about punishment. It is about teaching and guidance.

We have never heard of Candylicious before until my dad told Ashley about it.  Candylicious is the world’s largest candy store and it carries over 5000 kinds of candies and chocolates.  The store is like heaven filled with candies.   Not a place to go if you are on a diet!  The whole store was very brightly lit and I wonder if they used fx luminaire lighting.  There is one in KLCC (opened in November) and a new one opened in One Utama recently.  My dad has a sweet tooth and needless to say, he was very eager to bring Ashley there.  They finally set a date and it was last Friday after school.

Since the visit to Candylicious was before dinner time, the missy was not allowed to have any ice-cream or candies.  She conned told her gong gong that she would love to have this fluffy Destiny Duck which she named “Ducky Mo Mo“.  I foresee there will be many more trips to Candylicious with gong gong.

A few days ago, a dear friend asked me if I am interested in getting Ashley to do a photo shoot.  Her friend works in an advertising company and has a client who is looking for a girl to model their clothes.  Since the shooting does not clash with her school hours and the studio is near my office, we decided to let her do it.  This is the 2nd time for Ashley.  Her first stint as a model was when she’s 4 years old.  If you like, you can read about it here and here.  The first time was for The Garden’s Mother’s Day celebration.

The shooting session started at about 9.30am today and ended at 11am.  Pretty fast eh?  Ashley was given about 6 outfits to wear and she did various poses.  I was surprised to see the way she posed for the camera.  It was pretty natural for her…hehehehe.  The photographer and his team commented that it was easy to photograph the missy.  I only managed to take a few photos below before the start of the photography session.

Daddy :  “Errr………okay.  Once upon a time, there was  Princess who lived in a castle. One day, she met a Prince………….and they all lived happily ever after.  The End“.

Ashley : “D-A-D-D-YYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!”

Ashley is very fond of dogs.  She has been asking us to get her a dog as a pet   Of course we told her that she can have a dog but that would have to wait a little longer.  No price for guessing who is going to take care of the pet eh?  Anyway, shopaholic mommy cannot resist when she saw these ….

We came across a stallholder selling bamboo products at the market 2 weeks ago and spotted a little rocking chair.  I remember sitting on one at my aunt’s house when I was a kid.  It was so much fun.  So, we couldn’t resist not getting one for Ashley.
