Kids these days are so lucky. At almost all the parties that we attended, we would find the performance of a clown or an entertainer, a balloonist, face or hand painter. Ashley’s first encounter with a hand painter was when we attended the birthday party of my friend’s children in the beginning of the year. She patiently waited in line for her turn to have her hand painted.

She chose a butterfly tattoo

and a pink Hello Kitty with blue ribbon

Then recently when we attended Jaclyn’s baby boy, Stuart’s 100 day old party, there was a hand painter there too. Ashley was very excited and she got a pretty flower painting on her hand.

She got another cute flower sticker tattoo on her upper arm. The lil missy asked me how come the lady painter does not know how to draw an Ultraman because that was what she wanted on her arm *slaps forehead*

My sister forwarded this funny cartoon to me. I wonder if Ashley would end up like this one day….hahahaaahahaah

This is a continuation of Ashley’s first pets post. The next morning when we came downstairs, we found both the fishes lying on the floor. Yup, they jumped out of the tank and committed kamikaze. The lil missy was in tears and asked what happened. Well, I read somewhere that pets such as fishes are great to teach children about life and death in the world. So I tried to explain that the fishes jumped out of the tank because the tank didn’t have a cover and they died because there was no water (As you can see, I really don’t know how to tell her about life and death). We told her that we will buy another pair later in the evening. She was ok afterwards.

A swordtail fish lying on the floor. This is not ours but I got this image from google.
When I was a kid, my favourite TV show was The Cosby Show. I remember one episode where Rudy Huxtable’s pet goldfish, Lamont died and the family decided to give it a proper funeral. They all dressed up and said a few words before flushing Lamont down the toilet.

Rudy’s pet goldfish – Lamont, about to be flushed down the toilet
Therefore, I asked hubs if we should give Upin & Ipin a proper funeral so that Ashley would have a closure. He just rolled his eyes and threw them into the garbage bag *shake head* So…we did buy another pair of Upin & Ipin later in the evening. Guess what? The next day, they jumped out again eventhough we tried to cover the tank with a badminton racket. We left some opening at the side of the tank for oxygen and somehow the fishes managed to jump out. This time, Ashley didn’t cry but said, “Let’s go buy some fishes”…..muahahahahahahahaaaha. We decided not to buy anymore Swordtail fishes. We bought 4 guppies instead and they are still swimming happily in the tank now. Annie & Elaine, are you guys still laughing?

This is a backdated post. A week before the Chinese New Year, I was at the pasar malam (night market) in my area and I saw a stall which sell many children’s clothing. I went to take a look and was happy to see that this stall is like those factory outlet stores….hehehehhehe. They sell mostly GAP, Old Navy, Gymboree and Disney brand clothes. Of course I started looking for some good deals for Ashley and managed to find a Gap hoodie for her. It cost rm13. Cheap eh?

Floral hoodie

I found another Gap sweater for rm15. Not bad huh?
I always love a good bargain like this
Today is Thursday and it’s Pasar Malam night. I hope the stall is open so that I can go look for more things

After the first week of school, I noticed that most children in Ashley’s kindy wear white shoes and white socks to school….you know, the type worn by the primary and secondary students. Upon checking with another parent, I found out that one of the rules of this school is that all children must wear white shoes and white socks. My bad. I didn’t read the leaflet properly. Ashley has been wearing her princess-like shoes and pink/white socks to school
Last Friday, we decided to head down to Carrefour and look for a pair of school shoes for her. I found this -

a pair of cute mary-jane style shoes.
Ashley likes this a lot and so do I. How come they didn’t have this design when I was a kid? I think I have to get her another pair as spare because she came back with her shoes all dirty today. And today is only Monday

It all started when my friend gave Ashley a pair of pink Hello Kitty hairclips. Since then, she is hooked. I never liked Hello Kitty because it’s a cat and I’m a dog lover. Do you get what I mean? hehhehehe. Yes, I know I’m crazy. Anyways, back to the lil missy. Each time she sees Hello Kitty stuff, she’ll go wide-eyed, just like her mommy when she sees the big SALE sign on her favourite stores
)
We were at Jusco the other day and they were having this Japanese/Korean fair at the entrance. The lil missy saw this cute Hello Kitty candy and asked to buy it. She even said it’s her favorite colour – purple, which is the closest colour to pink. I think if she were to see a life insurance dictionary with Hello Kitty on the cover, she would ask me to buy it too. Normally I don’t buy any candies for her but this candy in a metal tin reminds me of the ones I used to eat when I was a kid. The candy drops were round and colourful.

The candies I used to eat were bigger in size. I don’t remember the brand. Did you have those candies before?

As Ashley has been coughing for almost 3 weeks and the cough syrup and phlegm syrup did not seem to work, her paediatrician prescribed her with Singulair chewables. The paed believes that Ashley has allergies hence she is coughing for so long. Since I have sinus, I guess Ashley inherits the genes that makes her more susceptible to having allergy problems. Singulair is to help strengthen her lungs.

A box of Singulair which contains a month’s supply

A strip of 7 tablets
She has to be on this for 6 weeks. A box (4 weeks supply) cost RM168 (RM42 a week). Pretty expensive huh? Her phlegmy cough is almost gone now…after taking Singulair for a week. This is defnitely good news

We are already in the third week of the school holidays and there are 3 more weeks to go before school starts. This time, we did not make any plans to go away for a break. Maybe it is because my mind is preoccupied with the changes that are going to take place next year. Come to think of it, I really should have made some holiday plans. All inclusive family vacations would be good for us. I heard that Azul Sensatori Hotel which is located on the shores of the Mayan Riviera, is very family oriented and has a handful of incredible family-friendly amenities. This world-class resort is an ideal holiday venue for families. Oh well, perhaps we would go on a family vacation next December. By then, I hope things would have settled down nicely.

A couple of days ago (long weekend), Annie asked me if I wanted to visit Elaine as she’ll be going there to learn how to make ‘lor mai kai’
It’s a last minute arrangement and since I didn’t have any plans that day, I quickly said yes
It was a lovely get-together and we had steamboat that day. After having steamboat, us ladies (including Elaine’s friend) proceeded to the kitchen to make ‘lor mai kai’….err, I mean to learn how to make lor mai kai from Chef Elaine
Everyone had a great time chatting and eating. Elaine’s hubs and Annie were the photographers that day. Here are some photos taken from their blogs

Steamboat

The kids. Love this black and white shot.

There are more photos at Elaine’s and Annie’s blogs. Do hop over if you are free

Ashley’s kindy held its concert 2 Saturdays ago. The concert was held at night (7pm to 9pm) in the school building. It was raining heavily a few hours prior to the concert and was still drizzling when the concert starts. Luckily everyone arrived safely (no roadside assistance was required) and the concert began on time. Ashley performed in 2 dance segments. I am glad that she danced well that day and did not have any stage fright
Here are some photos.

Getting her hair done. Make-up was done by her make-up artist aka Debbie yee yee.

Getting ready to sing Negaraku, Jalur Gemilang and recite the Rukun Negara.

First performance with her classmates.

Their 2nd dance performance. Notice Ashley’s barefoot? I forgot to bring her socks *slaps forehead*
The school did not provide any costumes nor did they ask her to buy any for Ashley’s class. Parents were told what clothes to prepare for the concert
