Recycled Gift Wrap

Posted on Dec 23, 2011 under crafts | 16 Comments

When we were in Mid Valley recently, I stumbled upon their Christmas newsletter.  Oh how I adore them.  The newsletter has a vintage feel to it.  They are free for shoppers to take and I found them at the information booth.  I took 2 pieces home (should have taken more …hehehehhee).

Nice eh?

The inside of the newsletter.  I decided to use one piece for gift-wrapping.  I am keeping the other piece.  So precious!

All wrapped.

As gift topper, I used a piece of crepe paper from China to create a paper flower.  I prefer its texture and thickness.  I also used the YRSNÖ ribbon from Ikea to decorate the gift box.

Christmas Craft Using Toilet Paper Rolls

Posted on Dec 19, 2011 under crafts | 13 Comments

Christmas is just days away.  I better post this up before the Holidays is over.  I decided to dress up the tree branches with the little lantern balls I got from Ikea last year.

SAM_2154

I also made some stars using toilet paper rolls.  Got this craft idea from Pinterest.

SAM_2153

My stash of toilet paper rolls

SAM_2156

Painted the rolls red

SAM_2155

The missy helping me to paint them.  As usual, she only wants pink colour.

SAM_2159

Once dried, flatten the roll and cut them into 1 inch thick leaves.

SAM_2158

Glue the pieces together to form a star shape.

SAM_2166

I made a bunch of red, pink and original colour toilet paper roll stars.  Used a red ribbon to create a hanger and the stars are ready to be hanged.

Here is my simple Christmas branch decorated with the lantern balls, red ornaments and the d-i-y toilet paper rolls.

elephants again

This is a back dated post. A few months ago, I was invited to attend the full moon of a dear friend’s daughter.  I decided to make a gift bag for the newborn’s presents.

SAM_1791

This is the gift bag which I made using kraft paper.

SAM_1793

I got some cute Japanese Fancy Paper from Daiso and cut out 2 elephant shapes from a template I got online.

SAM_1795

These are cardboards which I recycled from a mooncake box. I used bits of them to create the gift tag.

SAM_1805

Another ellie template I got online.  I cut out the elephant from a piece of pink paper and also from the recycled cardboard.  Glued them together to form a thick gift tag.   I used a brown cardboard to form its ear.

This is the Ellie theme gift bag I made for my friend’s newborn baby girl :)   You all know how much I adore elephants eh?

under the sea

I was going through Ashley’s books from the kindergarten last week and came across her drawing book.  I think her teacher would give them a theme and they have to draw something out. When I saw this page titled “Under The Sea”, I couldn’t help laughing.  The sea creatures are so funny.  There is an octopus which looks like a spider.  A crab that looks like Sebastian from The Little Mermaid.  The seaweed looks like a picture from the organic crabgrass killer bottle :)   The funniest of all is the grey shark.  Can you spot it?

drawing

The shark’s teeth are outside its mouth!  This is really hilarious.  I asked her to explain her drawings to me and she made up a story about the fishes being caught by the shark’s teeth..etc…hahahahaha.   One thing that is constant in all her drawings is the colour pink.  At least one object in her drawing must be in PINK!

Children’s Day Goodies Bags

Posted on Nov 14, 2011 under children, crafts | 28 Comments

Ashley’s kindy is celebrating Children’s Day tomorrow.  Inspired by a craft I saw at Pinterest, I made something for her classmates :)   We went to the supermarket for our regular grocery shopping, bumble and bumble shampoos and also to get these for the Children’s Day project  ….

p1

Candies, Chocs & Marshmallows.  I put all these into a long plastic bag which is meant for making ‘Ice-Cream Potong’.  They were given to me by Annie.  To seal the bags, I got the inspiration from Zakka Life (http://www.zakkalife.blospot.com) to make some Twist Tie with colourful masking tapes.

p2

First I bought some wires from the DIY store.

p4

Cut a piece of wire and place in the center of the tape.

p5

Place another piece of tape on top and voila, I have a cute Twist Tie.

p7

Made a bunch of them

p6

This is how I twist tie the goody bag.

These are the goody bags….all set for the kids tomorrow.

happy weekend & happy halloween

Ashley asked why we did not get a pumpkin since Halloween is coming. Thanks to all the Halloween decor at the malls and also the cartoon shows.  She also said she wants to go trick-o-treating.  Anyway, I was blog-hopping at some craft blogs and came across this cool idea and decided to surprise Ashley with a pumpkin.

SAM_1933

It’s “Mr. Wilson Pumpkin“.  I used her basketball as it has the same shade as the pumpkin.   Cut out the eyes, eye brows and mouth from a piece of black paper and tape them onto the ball.

The missy was thrilled and asked to take a photo with her ‘pumpkin’ :)

Have a Spooktacular weekend everyone :)

Many of my friends are into scrapbooking.  I have seen their beautiful scrapbooking albums and am amazed at their creativity.  Scrapbooking is an art of decorating photos, albums, paper craft and card making.  This interesting hobby is a great way to help people remember the precious moments and special people in their lives. As Halloween is fast approaching, I thought I’ll have some fun with one or two Halloween crafts.

h1

Got myself a white plastic bag and a permanent marker

h2

Shred the bottom of the bag to give it a tattered look

h3

Drew a scary ghost face and I have a spooky garbage bag ghost.  A cheap and easy way to decorate for the Halloween :)

The next 2 weeks is a busy one for us.  There is a full-moon party and 2 birthdays coming up.  It is time to shop for presents and the best part is wrapping them.  You know how much I love wrapping presents eh?  Got to start getting creative.  I have gotten ready something for one of the  gift-wrapping projects.  Below is a stack of Japanese fancy paper which I got from Daiso, pieces of cardboard from a recycled mooncake box that I have cut up using a box cutter and hand-drawn baby elephants as template.

Decorating A Gift Wrapped With Kraft Paper

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 under crafts, gift | 18 Comments

Recently, we bought a gift for a little girl.  I wrapped the gift in kraft paper (my favourite wrapper) and decided to decorate it.  This time, I created a ballerina with a pink tutu skirt :)

b1

Firstly, I cut out the bodice from a white card. Not very well drawn as you can see :)

b2

Then I used a pink tissue paper as the tutu.

b5

Crumple up the tissue paper from one end to the other and fold it into half

b3

Cut out a small piece of pink ribbon as the waist

b4

the little ballerina is formed

b6

I used the white lace sticker which I bought from Mr. DIY to decorate the border

b7

Tadaa….a homemade ballerina as a gift decor
