Sports and Concert Day 2011

As mentioned in my previous post, today is Ashley’s Sports and Concert Day. It was held at the stadium this morning. The missy was so excited and kept asking us how long it takes to arrive at the stadium. She was a tad worried when there’s traffic jam along the way. Below are some of the photos I took.

The decoration. Looks like a mini Asean game eh?

Ashley and her friends dancing away to the song, “Hey Mickey” by Toni Basil. You know the song? “Oh Mickey, you’re so fine. You’re so fine, you blow my mind, hey Mickey, hey Mickey“. One of my favourite songs in the 80’s. Their performance was the opening ‘act’ for the event. I don’t have a good camera, hence couldn’t zoom in to Ashley. She’s one of the girls who are holding the red pom pom.

After this, there were dances performed by the nursery/kindergarten children as well as those from the kindergarten’s other branches . The sport events took place after the performances.

Ashley only took part in this “Fruits Galore” event. The kids had to pick up a paper from the basket and run to the other end and pin the paper onto the fruit board.

The concert/sports day ended at around 12pm but we left early. Ashley said she had fun and kept asking us if we saw her performance

Ashley’s concert/sports day will be held tomorrow. She will be participating in a dance routine and I have been looking forward to seeing her costumes. She brought them back yesterday

Ashley has been telling me that she is so excited and can’t wait for her concert/sports day. Well, I am pretty excited too

Ashley brought back her graduation photo yesterday. It was in a yellow hardcover album with a certificate stating that she has completed her pre-school education and also a class photo. I posted her graduation photo in facebook and many of you have seen it already I feel like crying each time I see her grad photo Time flies.

My baby look so grown up here *sniff*

Then I remember I have a graduation pic too which was taken some 20 years ago Don’t laugh. Ashley sure doesn’t look like me eh?

Multiplication Strategy

I was reading a flyer on trucking gps system last night when Ashley told me that she’s doing a new multiplication homework from the Mental Maths class. I asked her if she could teach me what she learned in class because mommy doesn’t know how to do it. She was very happy and eager to teach me *wink* I just realized that the method they used is simple and also a fast way to get the answer. For example :

39 x 2 (break up 39 to 2 parts)

3 x 2 = 6

9 x 2 = + 18

Answer : 78

The tricky part is knowing where to place the numbers Geez, I didn’t know that it is so simple and easy to do multiplications. No price for guessing how my Maths was when I was in school huh?

Still a few errors here and there as Ashley was unsure of the placing of the numbers. She put the first number under the 100 column hence she added them up wrongly. Overall, she is doing good in class and I am glad that she is way better in Maths than moi

S-T-R-E-S-S from now until mid of next week. This is the last exam for the year. I didn’t do any revision with her this time around. Her Mandarin needs a lot of practice and she’s not very good in Bahasa Malaysia Can anyone tell me what is P.Seni?

Schoolwork For A 6 Year Old

Last week, hubs went to Ashley’s school to get her homework since she did not go to school for 3 days. In the stack of 13 books, there were 2 workbooks (one in English and one in Bahasa Malaysia) which I have never seen before. I think these 2 workbooks are for the children to do in school. When I flipped over to the page which Ashley is supposed to do, I was surprised to see this…

Do you think this is tough for a kindergarten kid? I don’t think I know what is the meaning of low on fuel when I was 6. I’m not sure what current teaching training involves, but maybe school authorities need to re-visit their online elementary education degrees to see what curriculum is age appropriate.

Asia? Visit Malaysia Year? You gotta be kidding me. I explained to Ashley what it was about and where to fill in the correct words. She doesn’t understand at all I wonder who came out with these exercises for the kindergarten. Is Primary 1 tougher than this? What is your opinion?
