It has been raining a lot, especially in the evenings. So last Saturday, hubs suggested that we have this again ….

The food. No greens, right? Yeah, I forgot to buy them *slap forehead*

Steamboat at home..out at the porch again
But guess what? It didn’t rain that day. The sky was gloomy but no rain in the end
Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable dinner for us
Lots of leftovers too. Looks like there is going to be another round of steamboat at home very soon.

…… we decided to have this for dinner.

some of the stuff that went into the pot

got everything laid out on the table. We had dinner at the porch that night. The weather was cooling due to the drizzle. It was fun.

Steamboat or Hotpot. Took about 2 hours to boil the soup base, wash the food, fry garlic oil and etc. Took 30 minutes to finish everything *burp* We should do this more often

It’s Sunday and the long weekend is coming to an end already. Not going to do much today. On 1Malaysia Day, we decided to check out the newly renovated old wing of 1 Utama. Jusco has moved and its supermarket and eatery are on the same block now. It was pretty confusing to walk around the old wing. I could not find some of my favourite stores. There are new ones like Cotton On Kids (Yay! no need to travel all the way to Sunway Pyramid anymore), shop that sell garter belts for women, shoe stores and restaurants. We had lunch at C.i Xpress which serve Hong Kong style food. They are a part of the Dragon-i chain. Its concept is similar to a well-known restaurant in Hong Kong whereby patrons place their orders at the cashier. There is a menu board next to the cashier, pay and take a number. When your number is shown on the food counter, you have to go and collect it.

I did not take any photos of the food. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. We ordered Ice Coffee Hong Kong style and sad to say, they were pretty bad. I prefer the Ice Coffee from KimGary. After lunch, we walked over to the new wing. Left the mall after spending 5 hours there. Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

How’s your Raya/Merdeka holidays peeps? Enjoying yourselves? Can’t believe that the holidays are coming to an end and I have to go to work tomorrow
On the bright side, tomorrow is Friday
We took another road trip yesterday and hubs decided to go to Bentong for some homemade ice-cream. He remembers having this yummy ice-cream when he was a kid and had been raving about it. Hubs actually forgot the name of the ice-cream place but we googled Bentong Ice cream and saw many blog posts on Kow Po Coffee Shop which serve delicious homemade ice cream.

We arrived in Bentong after a 45 mins drive from KL. We were lucky to be able to get a table right away

Vintage signboard just above the main entrance

This work area at the entrance is where the ice-cream orders are prepared

Choose your favourite ice-cream set from these framed photos on the wall.

Some of the flavours available.

My mom ordered the Chendol Ice Cream

Ashley’s single scoop of chocolate ice-cream

Mmmm…….

Hubs and I shared this Jumbo set which consists of 3 scoops of Ice cream (choc, durian and vanilla). The ice-creams are really good. They are so smooth and creamy. Their best seller is of course the durian flavour ones and ice kacang. Besides ice cream, you can also order yong tau foo. This ice cream place is so packed and the crowd kept coming in. We spent about 20 mins here and then head over to our next destination. We will definitely return to this hidden gem in Bentong. Coming up next is another good eating place we went to. Do stay tuned

A few weeks ago when I was looking for a bowl to serve the pickled cucumbers which I made, I was pleasantly surprised to find a few bowls which I have forgotten about. These bowls are very special because they were given to me by my mother-in-law, who received them from her late mother. I think hubby’s grandmother used these bowls in her home many, many years ago and then passed them to my mother-in-law when she no longer cooks. So I guess these beautiful bowls are probably as young as me

I like the designs on the bowl and also its bluish tone. They are very light too. I want to pass these antique heirlooms to Ashley next time

Happy Daddy’s Day to all the wonderful daddies out there
Ashley came home from school on Friday with this card for her daddy.

the front of the card

Messages in Mandarin
On Saturday, I helped her to do another lil gift for her daddy after seeing this idea from Jacss. It is a Father’s Day coupon book.

What can be found in the coupon book?

These coupons can be redeemed upon daddy’s request. Oh, there’s no expiration date *wink*
Ashley managed to keep these 2 things in a secret place (under the tissue box) until today. As soon as she woke up, she quickly went downstairs to take them. Then she placed them on daddy’s pillow when he was still sleeping

After hearing so much about Sepang Gold Coast/Morib Beach, Bagan Lalang, we finally made a trip there over the weekend. The drive was about an hour and we started out late. Made a few pitstops to the gas station, washroom, etc and we finally reached the beach around noon. It was a hot day.

the beach near the Sepang Gold Coast resort. Look impressive from here.

The missy insisted on changing to this batik outfit when we reached the beach
Next time, we should start our journey early so we can reach the beach before 10am. After some fun in the sun, we drove for about 20 minutes to Tanjung Sepat in search of the famous pau shop. Tanjung Sepat is a small fishing town Kuala Langat, Selangor. It is well-known for its seafood restaurants, keropok, bak kut teh and fishballs. The GPS took us to this coffeeshop – Hai Yew Hin which is famous for its “sang yuk pau”, “mui choy pau”, “vege pau”, “peanut and red bean paus“. In case you don’t know, you can eat all the above at this coffee shop BUT, you cannot have takeaway. Means, No Tapau. Don’t know what kind of crazy service this is. You can have takeaway but you got to buy them from their shop/factory across the road. So, I went over and all were sold out.

No choice but to sit in the coffeeshop for a while to savor the famous pau. Hubs ordered 3 ’sang yuk’ paus. I wasn’t in the mood to eat because it was such a hot and stuffy day. I took a small bite. Don’t know why they are so famous because they tasted so-so to me. Nothing spectacular
Next, we went to search for the Lover’s Bridge, a landmark in this fishing town. Found it after a few missed turns.

This is the famous bridge. 3/4 of it is made of concrete and the balance made of wooden planks. This is actually where the fishing boats are moored. I enjoyed coming here. It’s very breezy. I bet it must be beautiful at sunset. A must-see if you are a visitor to this village.

Ms. Cheeky enjoying the breeze. I only dared to walk about 10 feet on this bridge. I have this fear of crossing bridges. Even pedestrian bridge. Hubs took Ashley all the way towards the wooden planks and came back. I guess she’s not scared like her mama
If only he held my hand too….then perhaps I won’t be so scared =^_^= Ok…that’s all for now. Will post more about our trip tomorrow. Do stay tuned.

Recently, a relative on my hubby’s side of the family announced that he is getting engaged to his girlfriend of 3 years. He dropped by and handed us an invitation to his engagement party which will be held at the end of this month. It is a small and simple affair to be attended by families and close friends. Whilst I have been to many weddings and dinners, I have never attended an engagement party before. I wonder what theme they are planning for this beautiful event. Is the bride going to have a ring just like natalie portman’s engagement ring? I can’t wait!

When hubs asked me where I would like to go for dinner tonight, I told him nowhere because I didn’t feel like going out. Also, I need to spend some time reading up on our term life insurance policy. He then suggested that he ‘cook‘ for me since it’s Mother’s Day
Hubs is really good at making American Breakfast and firing up the BBQ. Since it was already closed to noon, he suggested the later for dinner. So, happily he brought Ashley to the supermarket to shop for the bbq stuff.

The master chef and lil chef at the grill, in the sweltering heat!

First batch were some sausages

Next were burger patties, chicken and more sausages

Last but not least, some Snowy Ice from 100 Yen shop for dessert.
Feel so ♡ today *smile* Can Mother’s Day be celebrated for a month???? I hope all of you had a nice one

We went back to Pomelosville yesterday for Qing Ming festival which is also known as All Souls’ Day or the Tombs Sweeping Festival. It is a day trip for us to go back and pay our respects to hubs’ grandfather, father and sister. First stop was Sam Poh Tong Temple.

Ashley posing at the entrance of the Sam Poh Tong temple. It was packed with people because it’s the last weekend for everyone to pay their respects. The whole place was filled with thick smoke due to the burning of joss sticks.

Right after Sam Poh Tong temple, we head over to the “Tai Shue Keok” aka Big Tree Foot in Pasir Pinji which is famous for its Yong Tau Foo. I have blogged about this before.

I don’t like to eat there because of the hygiene factor (hubs always roll his eyes when I say that), so I just went down to buy some of our favourites – Sar Kok Liew (deep fried stuffed turnip) and stuffed fish paste with long beans. Hubs wanted to have lunch at the popular Mee Kari Ipoh Garden along Jalan Pasir Puteh but sadly, it was closed yesterday. Then when he turned to look at Chuan Fatt which is across the road, he decided to eat there because it wasn’t packed. Chuan Fatt is also another good place for curries in Ipoh. Hubs grew up eating there a lot as he used to stay nearby.

This is how the shop looks like. It is on Jalan Pasir Puteh, just before the market. Got this photo from gpsfoodfinder.blogspot.com. What’s so special about the curries here? Their sinfully delicious curry noodles (wet or dry) come with fried chicken, roasted pork or char siew.

A plate of fried chicken and fried pork

We always order the dry curry version. Yummylicious!

Ashley is having her ‘kon loh’ noodles with the sar kok liew we bought earlier.
We went back to KL after lunch. It was a short but good trip as we got to eat our favourite food. Brings back lots of memories
The address of Kedai Makanan Chuan Fatt is 294, Jalan Pasir Puteh, 31650 Ipoh, Perak.
