last but not least,  a pair of blue sneakers from Children’s Place

Just recently my cousin asked her mom to bring back 2 pairs of shoes for Ashley and now she bought her more stuff.  Ashley is such a lucky girl.  I didn’t have a lot of clothes and shoes when I was a kid :(   My mom was saying that too bad Ashley didn’t have a lil sister whom she can pass these clothes to when she outgrows them :)

her birthday celebration

We celebrated Lady Gaga Ashley (that’s what she wants to be called now) on Saturday at the Swez Brasserie, Eastin Hotel.  We had hi-tea that day :D

b1

My sister requested the cafe staff to put a balloon on Ashley’s chair but they were so nice to put balloons on all our chairs.

b2

b3

I ordered a triple chocolate cheese cake for her, complete with a Disney Princess sugar paper.  Nice?  Will blog about where I ordered it in my next post ;)

b4

She closed her ears when we sang the birthday song

b6

Birthday present from Mommy

b7

Yes, that is Mr. Bean, birthday gift from daddy.  Just because Lady Gaga Ashley loves to watch Mr. Bean, daddy bought her a Mr. Bean doll *slaps forehead*

b9

A lovely doll house present from both her ‘yee yees’.  She absolutely adores the dollhouse and plays with it everyday. We have to find some contemporary furniture for this house soon ;)

b10

On Sunday, I brought Lady Gaga Ashley to the bakery to get another cake for her celebration in school.  As soon as she saw this cake, she wanted it….just because it has Ultraman on it  *faint*  I showed her the Hello Kitty one or those with lots of fruits but she said no.  I don’t know why she loves Ultraman so much.

Last but not least, Thank You Very Much for all your kind birthday wishes for Ashley in my blog and in Facebook :)

wedding dinner at 7atenine

Posted on May 17, 2010 under ashley, dinner, family | 25 Comments

On Saturday, we attended the wedding dinner of my cousin, Carla Soong at 7atenine, Ascot.  It was a buffet dinner and we were seated upstairs.  Downstairs was for friends of the newly-weds.  We have been attending the traditional 10-course wedding dinner all the while, so  Carla’s wedding was our first time at a non-traditional dinner complete with a live band downstairs :D   The buffet spread consisted of seafood spaghetti, linguine, fried rice, sushi, lamb, spicy chicken, fish, prawn, creme brulee and etc.  Here are some of the photos taken on that night.

I managed to take a photo of Carla’s wedding photos presentation on the screen.  Hope Carla won’t kill me for posting this in my blog :D

Ashley was so excited to see her Carla yee yee.  She thinks that all brides are princesses wearing long flowing dresses.  Ashley finally got to take a photo with her Princess Carla yee yee.  Sitting beside Ashley is Carla’s dad.

We left 7atenine at around 10pm and were caught in a slight jam near The Beach Club.  Boy, haven’t been to that part of the city for such a long time.  Didn’t miss much I guess…that area is still filled with foreigners and spgs ;)

An Early Mother’s Day Celebration

Hubs brought us, including my mil and my mom to a new Hong Kong style steamboat restaurant to celebrate Mother’s Day.  Shireen has written about this Hot Pot Bone Essense Steamboat at Kuchai Lama and I told hubs that we have to try it one day, since we love steamboat :)   Here are some photos of the food.

There are 2 sets here which are meant for 2 persons.   Can you see the white squarish thing on the plate?  They are Ice Tofu which can be eaten raw.  A specialty from Hong Kong but we cooked them in the soup :D

We really enjoyed this Hot Pot Bone Essense steamboat.  We will definitely return to try the other broths. Before this, I will have to get ready some of the best weight loss supplements for I know I will overeat each time :)

Dining At IOI Boulevard

When we were at IOI Boulevard recently,we dined at our favourite restaurant – Otak Otak Place.  Besides serving very good food, we also like the ambiance of this restaurant.  It is filled with lots of quirky and old school memorabilia such as green plastic soldiers, flasks, marbles and more.  Have you been to Otak Otak Place before?

Their exercise book menu.  Love it!  Brings back memories of my school days.

A day at Covent Garden

Posted on May 03, 2010 under family | 18 Comments

Last weekend, we spent some time at Covent Garden.  Did you think I was talking about Covent Garden in London?  heheheehehehe….I wish we were there. I so miss its charming cobblestone street.  Actually we were at Puchong’s newest and hottest venue, The IOI Boulevard which is hailed as Malaysia’s Covent Garden.  It consists of office blocks, retail outlets, a nice courtyard with water features, glass canopy and alfresco sidewalk cafe.   According to their website, IOI Boulevard is also going to be a platform to promote arts by allowing budding artists and performers to display their talents.   We read about this place in the papers so we decided to drop by for dinner.  The IOI Boulevard is just opposite the IOI Mall.

Only a handful of shops are opened here. They are Otak-Otak Place, Kissaten Restaurant, Kissaten Beer Garden, Munich Gastro Bierhaus, Kimchi Haru, Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa, Coffee Co. (a Hong Kong based cafe) and The Loaf is opening soon. Yippee!!  I am sure once the building is fully occupied, it will be livelier.  I am looking forward to more shops opening.  However, I foresee some parking problems in the future because there aren’t many parking spaces available.  This will surely lead to double parking problems later on.  Do you think fines or wheel clamps may solve the problem?  Stay tuned for more on where we ate that day ;)

d-i-y

I was going through the photos in my blog just now and saw this.  You must be wondering what this photo is all about :)   Remember Ashley’s pet – Ipin and Upin, the swordtail fishes?  After the first pair committed kamikaze when they jumped out of the open tank, hubs decided to cover it the following night.  He put two toy badminton rackets over the top and then a fan remote control to hold them.   However, the 2nd set still managed to jump out despite this d-i-y cover *shake head*

Anyway, we have had enough of the swordtail fishes and bought 4 guppies instead.  Ashley still named two of them Ipin & Upin and the other two – Aurora and Belle (after the Disney Princesses).  They are still happily swimming around in the tank till this day.

Hot Days

Posted on May 01, 2010 under family | No Comment

My aunt and uncle who arrived from the States a few days ago will be staying at my house next week.   When they left US, it was late Spring and the weather was pretty cooling. As soon as they landed in KLIA, they said they could feel the really hot and humid air.  They have been trying to stay in airconditioning rooms most of the time.  Can’t blame them because even we cannot stand the current hot weather that we are experiencing. The ceiling fans have to be switched on full blast and also we have been sleeping with the airconditioning on every night.

is this for real?

Do you remember the American television series, Bionic Woman?  It starred Lindsay Wagner who has great strengthened arms, enhanced legs that enables her to run faster than a speeding car and amplified hearing?  Well, somehow I believe that my MIL has inherited some of bionic woman’s abilities.  The hearing part.  I’ve noticed this not once but many times.  One day, she was in her bedroom and me & my mom were talking in the kitchen.  Believe me, she could hear us!  The kitchen is not exactly near her bedroom.  A bathroom separates the kitchen and her bedroom.  Just imagine…she could hear us talking and we weren’t loud either.  Mom was asking me if I, out of courtesy, asked my MIL if she would like to drink the soup which I had boiled.  I said I did but she didn’t drink.  My mil doesn’t eat or drink the food that I or my mom prepares.  Yes, very weird indeed but that’s a story for another day.  Ok..back to that day, she came out of the room suddenly and replied my mom.  Well I was gobsmacked!

smacked

Then recently, MIL was sitting on the sofa in the living room while me and hubs were at the dining table.  Quite a distance away actually and we were talking about auto insurance quotes, what to eat for dinner and she actually joined our conversation.  Again, I was gobsmacked.  Sometimes when we asked her questions, she cannot hear us though we were standing near but she could hear us when we are far away?   C’est bizarre.

You know what? I am going to try to whisper this time and see if she could hear us :P   If she still can, I think perhaps ABC may be interested in a Bionic Woman spin-off………muahahahahahahahaa

100 degree Celsius Steamboat

Posted on Apr 05, 2010 under Uncategorized, ashley, dinner, family | 21 Comments

Last Sunday, we felt like having steamboat for dinner so hubs suggested that we try the 100 Degree Celsius Steamboat in Kuchai Lama since we always pass by this restaurant but have not tried it.   What’s unique is their special types of soups.  There are 11 different soups to choose from such as Original, Tom Yum, Porridge Soup, Curry, Fish Head Soup, Herbal Soup, Bak Kut Teh, Golden Porridge Soup, Sweet & Sour Soup and etc.  Being non-adventurous types, we ordered Original soup which is actually plain broth :P   What I also like is the different sauces available to go with the steamboat.

DSC04766

A look at the counter where all the sauces are.

DSC04767

We ordered the rm39.90 set for 3 of us.  Check out the different sauce we took.  I had the Hainanese chilli sauce, sweet garlic sauce, sambal with lots of garlic and oil with fried shallots.

DSC04769

Everyone has their own pot of soup

DSC04763

There are 2 types of sitting arrangements in this restaurant.  One is the regular table and chairs and the other is the  traditional Japanese Tatami style where we have to remove our shoes and sit on timber flooring with our legs under the table.  This is the first time Ashley tried this seating arrangement and she was pretty excited that we all left our shoes at the bottom of the stairs.  She was dancing and rolling on the timber flooring *slaps forehead*  Here she is doing a yoga pose.

Overall, we like the ambiance and the food although I felt very thirsty after dinner.  Must be the MSG in the chilli/garlic sauce.  We’ll definitely go back again to try other soup base…maybe Bak Kut Teh?
