Sweet Top From Cotton On Kids

Posted on Apr 27, 2011 under ashley, children, fashion | 15 Comments

When I did my ’short trip to Ipoh’ post recently, a few people asked me about Ashley’s top with a blue necklace.  Some of you asked if I made the necklace myself.  Ahhh…if only I am good at sewing.  I should have taken up Home Science during my secondary school days :P   Sorry side-tracked a bit.  I bought Ashley’s top from Cotton On.  I just love its kids’ collection.  They are so funky.  What made me buy the top is the eye-catching cloth necklace.

This is the cute necklace

the necklace is pinned to top with snap buttons on both shoulders.  Cool huh?

I removed the necklace before I put the top in the laundry.  It comes in dark blue, green and white/beige and cost RM19.  Pretty affordable eh?   You know, I wish Cotton On Kids is available in Mid Valley or 1 Utama and not just in Sunway Pyramid.  I really don’t like going there much because it’s like a maze and the shops are scattered all over the mall.  I only go to Sunway Pyramid because of Cotton On Kids :)

A lovely batik shop in Malacca

I love handmade products.  I find it inspiring and wonderful that there are so many creative people out there.  When we buy handmade, repurposed or recycled items, we are not only doing Mother Earth some good.  We are actually helping to support the artisans :)   We were on our way to the hotel carpark in Malacca recently when I something colourful caught my eyes.   I saw a shop near Jonker Street displaying many colourful and cute t-shirts with batik skirts/pants.   Right after lunch, we walked over to check it out.

This is Umyang, a custom-paint batik shop on Jalan Hang Kasturi.

This shop is run by a Korean woman and her Malaysian husband.  Everything is hand-painted in this shop.  Besides using the traditional art form of batik painting to hand-paint tops and bottoms, they also use other painting and dyeing techniques to create funky and delightful designs.    When I told the lady that I am looking for a t-shirt for Ashley, she brought out this :-

The lady said when she saw Ashley, she immediately thought of this t-shirt design :)

This is the back.

I was planning on getting a more colourful design for her like one with elephants or giraffes but the missy said she likes this.  It’s rm38.  Handmade/hand-painted products are slightly more expensive than normal ones.  I think I will get her a pair of  batik shorts or a batik skirt from Umyang next time.  When you are in Malacca, do drop by Umyang if you adore hand-painted clothing.

Getting Ready For The School Concert

Posted on Nov 09, 2010 under ashley, fashion | 29 Comments

Yesterday, I brought Ashley to her school to inform her teacher that she will not be attending school for the next 2 days.  As her school concert is this Thursday,  the teacher gave me her dance costume and shoes to bring home.  She is to wear them on Thursday morning.  The wound is much better now and Ashley told me she can dance at the school concert so we are not stopping her :D

This is the first time I see her costume.  It cost RM120 and another RM40 for the shoes.  This is like daylight robbery eh?  We cannot not pay for the costumes since our child wants to participate.  When the teacher showed me the shoes, my jaw dropped.

RM40 for a pair of plastic strappy ankle sandals with huge bling  bling?  Tell me, is this hideous or what? Whatever happened to mary janes and buckle up shoes?  When the teacher handed me the shoes, she said, “Look at this beautiful shoes that she’s going to wear on her concert day“, I was speechless.  And….Ashley told me she likes this shoes very much and she wants to wear it when she goes out *bangs head on the wall*  Elaine, are you laughing your head off?

traditional japanese clothing for children

My friend, Junko returned to Japan for a holiday recently.  She came back last week and bought Ashley a lovely set of ‘Jinbei’.  I didn’t know what it was called until I googled for information :)   It is a kimono wrap style top with a pair of matching shorts and adjustable ribbon ties at the side.    Jinbei is a traditional Japanese summer clothes.   I love the colour and the prints of this Jinbei.  The fabric is very soft and I think it is very comfortable.

the skinny

I was flipping the magazine a while ago and I came upon an ad for Gap Kids. It features a pretty 9 year old girl, Kayleigh wearing Gap’s best fitting premium jeans for kids – The Super Skinny.  Guess how much it cost?

gap

RM115  *ouch*  Pretty pricey, don’t you think?  With that money, I rather invest in gold bullion.    Actually, I did not know that retailers are selling skinny jeans for kids.  There are skinny jeans for babies as well.   Though the skinny jeans are quite stylish, do you think the kids would have enough room to do activities that require movements when wearing them?  Would you dress your kids in skinny jeans?

It’s the rainy season now.

It would be great if I can get my hands on some funky rain boots.  It will be fun to walk around in them.  Oh, they are perfect for dancing in the rain too :)   I’m sure Ashley would like doing that.

Cotton On Kids KL

I finally checked out Cotton On Kids after hearing so much of it.  The only mall in KL which has Cotton On Kids is Sunway Pyramid.   As soon as I stepped into the shop, my heart started to pump real fast…..hehehehehhee.  There are so many trendy clothes for children, especially girls.  Lots and lots of accessories too!  I wanted so much to get Ashley the ballet flats – RM40 for 2 pairs but sadly, they didn’t have a bigger size.  She loves the flats very much and kept saying they are princess shoes :)

This is how the bling bling ballet flats look like :)   Available in silver, gold, matt pink and matt black.

Some of the clothes on sale were tutu skirts, fairy wings, t-shirts and skirts.  There is a RM29 for 2 section and I managed to find 2 tops for her.

a light pink t-shirt with a picture of a puppy.  Ashley loves it because she is planning to get a dog :)

A white pintucked top with light blue designs.  I think this top would go well with tights, 3/4 pants or shorts.

I will definitely go back to check out Cotton On Kids again :)

nivniv Handmade is a new kid on the children’s wear block. The products in nivniv are designed and sew by this very talented mommy of 2 cute kiddos.  When I first saw how she refashioned some clothings and accessories for her 2 children, I actually asked her if she has any intention to sell them :)   So, when this talented mommy finally opened her blogshop, I was giddy with excitement :)    Her collection of sun dresses, skirts, hair clips and kiddos bags are fun and funky.    They are made with amazingly beautiful fabric and I love how she mix and matches the fabrics. When I saw the adorable Mod Red Sundress, I knew Ashley would look nice in it.

This is Ashley’s first sundress and it comes with a set of matching hairclips.  Love the fabric.

What Not To Wear

Posted on Aug 11, 2010 under ashley, fashion, funny | 20 Comments

We were getting ready to go out for dinner last Sunday night when I heard Ashley saying this to her super hero daddy.

Ashley :  Daddy, are you wearing this shorts (tonight)?

Hubs :  Yes I am.

Ashley :  You have to change daddy.  You cannot wear shorts when we go out.

I was trying hard not to laugh out loud when I heard that.  I remember saying the same thing to my hubs not too long ago and I guess the lil missy heard it.  Ahhh….I don’t have to nag tell my hubby what to do anymore.  I have an assistant now :D

So, did hubs change into long pants that night? You bet he did.  Anything for his princess……..muahahahahahahaaha
