Shopping For Chinese New Year

Posted on Jan 17, 2010 under food, health, me, shopping | 3 Comments

When I was at the market yesterday morning, I saw many stalls selling Chinese New Year decoration items such as lanterns and paper scrolls .  They are so colourful and everything was in red and gold.  Besides these decorative items for the home, there are also many stalls selling Chinese New Year cookies and snacks.  I was tempted to get some but I am glad that I did not.  I know that once I buy them, I would start eating the cookies before the New Year is here :(   Before you know it, I may need to get some adipex p to lose the weight I gained from eating too many cookies.  Have you started your Chinese New Year shopping already?

have you tried them?

While walking back from Pasar Malam (Night Market) yesterday, I saw a white van at the far corner with many people lining up to buy some food.   When I walked closer, I saw that the van was selling Stinky Tofu (fermented tofu).   I thought they no longer sell them at the Pasar Malam in my area because I could hardly smell it.  Normally we could smell it in the air every Thursday :)   Don’t know what happened to me last night.   I decided to buy some to try…hahahahahaahaha.  They are really smelly but when eaten together with some pickles, you can hardly taste/smell the acrid odour :D   I asked Ashley if she wanted to try some and she said…”eeeewwwwwwwww”.  Hubs didn’t want anything to do with them either and sat really far away from the dining table.   If I tell him that they are great fat burners for men, I bet he would take a bite *chuckle*  Have you tasted them before?

Hello Kitty Fan

Posted on Dec 29, 2009 under ashley, children, food | 17 Comments

It all started when my friend gave Ashley a pair of pink Hello Kitty hairclips.  Since then, she is hooked.  I never liked Hello Kitty because it’s a cat and I’m a dog lover. Do you get what I mean? hehhehehe.  Yes, I know I’m crazy.  Anyways, back to the lil missy. Each time she sees Hello Kitty stuff, she’ll go wide-eyed,  just like her mommy when she sees the big SALE sign on her favourite stores :) )

We were at Jusco the other day and they were having this Japanese/Korean fair at the entrance.  The lil missy saw this cute Hello Kitty candy and asked to buy it.  She even said it’s her favorite colour – purple, which is the closest colour to pink.  I think if she were to see a life insurance dictionary with Hello Kitty on the cover, she would ask me to buy it too.  Normally I don’t buy any candies for her but this candy in a metal tin reminds me of the ones I used to eat when I was a kid. The candy drops were round and colourful.

The candies I used to eat were bigger in size. I don’t remember the brand.  Did you have those candies before?

christmas party

Posted on Dec 28, 2009 under ashley, family, food, friends | 12 Comments

We attended a belated Christmas party at Annie’s last night.  We had loads of fun chatting and eating.  Elaine and family were there too.  Annie’s husband was busy at the barbecue whipping up the awesome barbecued pork ribs, satays, sausages and chicken wings.  The ribs were good…even better than Tony Roma’s ;)   I was so full that my tummy was in pain :(   greedy,  greedy, greedy!  While the parents were busy eating, the kids were having lots of fun with each other in the play room and living area.  Here are some pics taken last nite.  Sorry, no pics of the good food cos I was too busy eating :D

our christmas celebration

How was your Christmas?  Ate till ya drop? We don’t celebrate Christmas because we are not Christians.  So what did we do on Christmas eve?  We chilled at Starbucks ……hehehehehe

The muffin is for Ashley.  She’s a big fan of their cakes and muffins :D   Each time she sees a Starbucks, she’ll want to go in…tsk tsk tsk

On Christmas Day, we didn’t go anywhere.  How boring huh?  So how did you spend your Christmas?

Why Children Love Donuts?

Posted on Dec 10, 2009 under ashley, food | 17 Comments

Each time when we pass by the donut shops at the mall, Ashley would stop to look at them.  You can actually see the twinkle in her eyes when she’s staring at those yummy-looking donuts.  Then, she’ll say she wants the pink-coloured ones :D   Of course we don’t buy them for her all the time.  Donuts are not exactly healthy but once in a while, it’s ok :)

Can’t wait to eat the donut with colourful sprinkles.

I am not a fan of donuts.  I find them too sweet.  Actually I haven’t tried any from J Co Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts or Big Apple.  I don’t think I can be in their employment and stare at the donuts everyday. What about you?  Do you like them?

the most expensive prawn noodle ever

Posted on Dec 08, 2009 under food, me | 23 Comments

As Ashley has just recovered, we are still trying to avoid the shopping malls or anywhere crowded.  We hardly go out to eat either but it is really boring to stay at home for 2 weeks.  So, on Sunday, we decided to head over to Centerpoint, Bandar Utama to try out the famous prawn noodle at Champs.  At least Centrepoint is not crowded ;)

mee

I didn’t bring my camera along so I googled and got a photo of the Champs Prawn Mee from Foodpoi.com.

What’s so special about this dish? Oh, before I forget, it cost RM20.90  per bowl.  Yes, freaking expensive if you ask me.  It has pork ribs, pork slices, small prawns and 2 big prawns (not succulent at all). It also has lots of chu yau char (fried pork fats) Yikes!  My verdict?  Nothing special about this prawn noodle except for the size of the bowl.  I don’t think I would go all the way there just to eat the prawn noodle now.  Plus…RM20 per bowl is a tad expensive (5 x the cost of a regular prawn noodle).  I rather spend the money on the best wrinkle treatments.  So, have you tried it before?

Steamboat For Lunch

Posted on Dec 01, 2009 under children, food, friends | 18 Comments

A couple of days ago (long weekend), Annie asked me if I wanted to visit Elaine as she’ll be going there to learn how to make ‘lor mai kai’ :)   It’s a last minute arrangement and since I didn’t have any plans that day, I quickly said yes :D   It was a lovely get-together and we had steamboat that day.  After having steamboat, us ladies (including Elaine’s friend) proceeded to the kitchen to make ‘lor mai kai’….err, I mean to learn how to make lor mai kai from Chef Elaine :D   Everyone had a great time chatting and eating.  Elaine’s hubs and Annie were the photographers that day.  Here are some photos taken from their blogs :)

Buffet At Eyuzu

Posted on Nov 29, 2009 under family, food | 19 Comments

Yesterday was my mom’s birthday so all of us (including my sisters and brother-in-law) had buffet dinner at Eyuzu in Eastin Hotel.  It was my first time at Eyuzu :)   We were all seated in the private function room and the lil missy was busy going in and out, following her youngest aunt or us when we went out to get the food.  Below are some photos of the food we had.

There are many varieties at Eyuzu such as tempuras, sashimi, teppanyaki, sushi, and dessert like ice kacang, ice-creams, mochi, puddings, cakes and more.  Since I cannot eat seafood due to thyroid, I could only drool when my family was eating those delicious oysters and shrimps.  I only stuffed myself silly with fish and desserts :)

Have You Had Sbread Recently?

Posted on Nov 25, 2009 under diet, family, food | 18 Comments

Sunday is the only day where I get to eat whatever I want.  It is my “No Diet” day but I still cannot go overboard with my eating.  Usually I would have noodles for brunch and dinner.  Last Sunday, we went to The Gardens as hubs wanted to check out some auto accessories at a shop in Mid Valley.  My mom and sister came along and we had our lunch at one of the Chinese restaurants (I forgot the name).  Just before we left, we had coffee and some snacks at SBread.  They are famous for their freshly baked Bamboo Charcoal bread and special kayas.  Since it’s a No Diet Day, I ordered a piece of  Bamboo Charcoal bread with Taro (yam) kaya.  Mmmm….delicious.

It was a very good and satisfying meal.  The food was delicious, especially the breads.  They are so fresh and soft.  If you are in Mid Valley, don’t forget to check out SBread.  They are located at the Lower Ground Floor where all the eateries are.
