One of my weekend wishes for last week is to try making the pickled cucumber after seeing the recipe at Angelolli.com. I love pickles though I can’t eat them too often
Went out to buy the ingredients and I made the pickled on Sunday
It is one of Harumi Kurihara’s recipes. Harumi Kurihara is a Japanese celebrity chef and is famous for her no-fuss and simple dishes. Here are the ingredients :- soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, cucumber and sesame oil. I used Japanese cucumbers.

Mix 100ml each of soy sauce and rice vinegar with 4 tablespoons of sugar and sesame oil to taste. This is for the pickling sauce. Cut the cucumber lengthwise and remove the seeds. Don’t peel the skin. Then cut into bit-sized pieces. Julienne cut the ginger.

Put everything together in a Ziploc bag and keep in the fridge for 2 hours before serving.

They are cucumberlicious! Hubs like it too. Goes well with Garlic rice or Bbq. Arrrrggghhhhh….no more bbq, no more bbq. Anymore bbq and I will need to look for those ekg machines. Do give this recipe a try if you like pickled cucumbers. I will be on a lookout for Harumi Kurihara cookbook now

There was another round of bbq yesterday because the lil chef said she wanted to cook for her daddy dearest as an early Father’s Day celebration. This time, hubs used the small grill as it’s easy for the lil chef to flip the meat. It’s cute to see her doing it but I don’t want another bbq anymore. arrrrggghhhhhhh….enough of meat already

A continuation on our trip to Bagan Lalang. After having spending some time at the Lover’s Bridge, we walked over to the restaurant for lunch. There are 2 restaurants at the entrance to the bridge. One is Ocen Seafood Restaurant and the other one is Restoran Ban Joo Heng. We went to the later one.

Here’s what we ordered

fried squid

sweet and sour crab

Egg with oyster (oh chien)

Stir fried Cantonese Noodle (wat tan hor) for Ashley
The food was not bad except for the crabs. They thought Ashley was going to eat them so they didn’t add any chilli. The plate of crabs was pretty bland to me. Total bill comes to about rm80. Cheap eh?
We went home after lunch. Along the way, there are many dragonfruit farms and also stalls selling the fruits. We told Ashley that we would be stopping at a farm because I have never seen dragonfruit trees before. She was pretty excited because she said she has never seen a farmer before

Unfortunately, the farm where we stopped was closed. I could only take a photo of the tree from the outside. Can you see those white paper bags near the tree? They are used to protect the dragonfruits before being plucked. Ashley was quite upset that she didn’t get to see a farmer
We told her that we’ll look for one next time.

We bought some dragonfruits back. RM12 for 5 pieces. That’s all about our road trip. It was fun

My hubby is a big fan of meat. Whether they are red or white, he loves them all. So much so that I call him Viking. When I was chatting with Elaine, she asked me if I meant Hagar the Horrible. Remember this beloved cartoon character who appears in the newspapers? hahahahahahaha.

So, Mr. Hagar went out and bought himself a bbq grill a couple of days ago.

This means only one thing ……………

So this weekend, besides the usual housework and checking out the best thrush treatments for a friend, I’ll be eating some bbq food. We are having some friends over for the ‘official opening’ of the bbq grill….hahahahahahah. Hope you all have something fun planned. Happy Weekend!

Recently, my friend gave Ashley a packet of Organic Candy Drops by Yummy Earth. This is the first time I have come across this brand of candies. Yummy Earth is the No. 1 Organic Candies in the USA. They are made with real fruit extracts, contain no artificial dyes, are gluten free, nut free, dairy free and etc. Plus they taste really good and not too sweet. I’ve tried a few

Candy drops
Last week, hubs spotted the organic fruit lollipops at Bangsar Village and he quickly bought one packet. The individually-wrapped lollies come in Strawberry Smash, Tooberry Blueberry and Razzmatazz Berry flavour (what a tongue-twister).

Since they are organic, I don’t mind Ashley eating them
You can find Yummy Earth in Cold Storage. Not sure if they are available at Toys R Us or not. Check out their website – www.YummyEarth.com if you would like to find out more. They even list out the ingredients of each candy.

I remember that I used to dislike eating Instant Noodle when I was a kid because my grandmother cooked it for us every other day for lunch *blek* Now, I like having instant noodle once in a while though it’s not very healthy
Just felt like having one today and when I went to my cupboard, I found this Instant Japanese Noodle which I bought from Daiso a few months ago.

I added some fishballs and veges into the noodle. I accidentally put a wee bit more water than I should thus it became soupy. Still delicious though. Yum Yum.

What’s your favourite noodle?

Each time when we make a trip back to Ipoh, I would stop by this place to buy some delicious cakes. JJ Cakes is getting pretty famous now and the shop is usually packed with customers. The delicious cakes and swiss rolls are homemade, low in sugar and contain no preservatives. The cakes are very fresh, soft and fluffly. JJ Cakes’ bestsellers are Fresh Durian, Coffee Walnut, Choc Hazelnut and Durian. My tummy is growling as I type this post. Wish I can stuff myself silly with these cakes every day and maybe take the hcg shots for weight loss after that

JJ Cake Shop

I bought a durian and a chempedak roll. I always say that I want to try the other flavours but each time, I’ll end up with the same ones. They also have mini cake rolls in a few flavours. I got a box for Ashley and she loves the chocolate, coffee and vanilla, not the pandan ones though. It has a pungent pandan smell.

This is the Chempedak roll. Check out the generous amount of chempedak filling. Yums!
Here is the address and contact number if you would like to get some of these delicious cakes when you are in Ipoh.

I was at Starbucks the other day for my usual Java chip frap and right after I placed my order, the barista asked if I would like to get some of these Cake Pops. They look lovely, don’t they? I think they just came out with these not too long ago because I don’t remember seeing them before.

I wanted to say ‘No Thank You’ to the barista but guess what? Ashley saw them and her eyes lit up as if she just spotted a scott kay diamond ring. She quickly said “Oh please mommy, can you buy it? I want to eat it. It’s pink“. She kept repeating “oh please oh please” so I bought 2 Cake Pops for Ashley and her friend who was with us. The 2 girls happily went to the table and started eating them. Ashley took one bite and said, “Mommy, can we keep it for tomorrow?”. No price for guessing who finished the Cake Pop in the end. It is very sweet with a mix of vanilla cake and icing on the inside and a pink coating with sprinkles on the outside. Cost RM6 each.

We went back to Pomelosville yesterday for Qing Ming festival which is also known as All Souls’ Day or the Tombs Sweeping Festival. It is a day trip for us to go back and pay our respects to hubs’ grandfather, father and sister. First stop was Sam Poh Tong Temple.

Ashley posing at the entrance of the Sam Poh Tong temple. It was packed with people because it’s the last weekend for everyone to pay their respects. The whole place was filled with thick smoke due to the burning of joss sticks.

Right after Sam Poh Tong temple, we head over to the “Tai Shue Keok” aka Big Tree Foot in Pasir Pinji which is famous for its Yong Tau Foo. I have blogged about this before.

I don’t like to eat there because of the hygiene factor (hubs always roll his eyes when I say that), so I just went down to buy some of our favourites – Sar Kok Liew (deep fried stuffed turnip) and stuffed fish paste with long beans. Hubs wanted to have lunch at the popular Mee Kari Ipoh Garden along Jalan Pasir Puteh but sadly, it was closed yesterday. Then when he turned to look at Chuan Fatt which is across the road, he decided to eat there because it wasn’t packed. Chuan Fatt is also another good place for curries in Ipoh. Hubs grew up eating there a lot as he used to stay nearby.

This is how the shop looks like. It is on Jalan Pasir Puteh, just before the market. Got this photo from gpsfoodfinder.blogspot.com. What’s so special about the curries here? Their sinfully delicious curry noodles (wet or dry) come with fried chicken, roasted pork or char siew.

A plate of fried chicken and fried pork

We always order the dry curry version. Yummylicious!

Ashley is having her ‘kon loh’ noodles with the sar kok liew we bought earlier.
We went back to KL after lunch. It was a short but good trip as we got to eat our favourite food. Brings back lots of memories
The address of Kedai Makanan Chuan Fatt is 294, Jalan Pasir Puteh, 31650 Ipoh, Perak.

After hearing so much about Food Foundry, we decided to try it out last weekend with our friends. Food Foundry is located at Happy Mansion, a place which we haven’t been before, despite staying in KL for so long. We were a tad surprised when we reached Food Foundry because it was located on the ground floor of an apartment block and it wasn’t an air-conditioned restaurant
Nevertheless, it is a cozy place and food is good. We ordered a variety of food which include their famous Chicken Cordon Bleu, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Ulam and Mille Crepes of course. Alas, my digital camera died on me before I could snap photos of our food. Never mind, we went again yesterday night because hubs wanted to try other things in the menu.

The restaurant is divided into two sections as it occupies 2 shoplots. We sat at this section which has a lovely hand painted wall.

“Where’s my food mom?”

Ashley’s Chocolate Mille Crepe.

Yummy

Hubs ordered the Mediterranean Chicken. A rather small portion and nothing much to shout about. He said he prefers the Nasi dishes.

I ordered the Ham and Mushroom Carbonara. It was pretty good but fattening *yikes*
We including our friends like this place a lot so I guess we will be eating there more often
