Thanks for all the comments earlier. Ashley woke up today and told me that her throat hurts very much. She refused to drink any water which is a big no no. After much coaxing, she drank her some. Managed to eat a small piece of waffle and then yoghurt. She doesn’t want any milk either. I asked Dinah about the gel she gave her kids when they had hfmd a few months ago. I want to get it for Ashley to reduce the pain caused by the darn ulcers.

Aloclair Gel for mouth ulcers. Managed to find it after visiting 4 different pharmacies. I wish they have the spray type which can easily get to the ulcers on the throat. I applied a few drops inside her mouth one hour before meal. Then I gave her noodle in soup for lunch. She managed to eat it without much complain. I also heard her humming to some songs she was listening to

Mood : Extremely crabby

Reason : The ulcers are very bad and they are causing her a lot of pain *heartbreaking*

Diet : Porridge for lunch and dinner

Yoghurt / Vitagen

Candies coated with the mouth gel to numb the pain

Water (refusing to drink much but is forced to drink)

Activities : Lying on the bed and playing with the iPhone

Gargling her throat with salt water

Watching Mr. Bean on Youtube

Can’t wait to hear her laughter and seeing her do all kinds of silly antics.

Update : Red spots have started appearing on her feet, hand and buttocks.

The dreaded abbreviation. It has finally arrived at our household. No prize for guessing who got it Ashley complained that her throat was painful last week. There was also an ulcer inside her mouth. I thought maybe she was heaty because she gets ulcers once in a while. I got her to gargle her mouth more often with salt water and gave her Esberitox as she has a bit of a runny nose too.

Her ’sore throat’ went away after 2 days and I thought nothing about it. Then yesterday evening, she said her throat is painful again. I didn’t check her mouth and let her resume the salt water mouth gargle. This morning, she said she may need to see the doctor as her throat is very painful Once the paed checked it, he said, “oh dear, her mouth is full of ulcers”. There are no spots on her body.

Can you spot the reddish spots inside her mouth? They are the darn ulcers and are everywhere, even on her throat

Medication which consists of a cold meds, Nurofen for the pain, gel to numb the mouth and Esberitox. No antibiotics as it doesn’t help, according to the paed. He also said to give her lots of yoghurt and ice-cream if she doesn’t feel like eating.

….. instead of making lemonade, why not make Lemon Foot Scrub? I decided to give it a try after seeing the steps online

Here are the Ingredients :-

1/2 cup sea salt
1/2 cup olive oil/vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon orange zest

Pour salt into a bowl and slowly drizzle in the oil. You may not need all that is called for in the recipe.

Then add in 1 tsp of lemon zest and 1 tsp of orange zest

Mix well.

Pour the mixture into an airtight container. I got some Spice Jar from Ikea just for that. Made a few bottles for my guinea pigs dear friends recently.

Scrubs are great for exfoliating the skin. Its rough texture helps to remove toxins and dead skin that may be blocking the pores. Let me know if you want to whip up this easy DIY Lemon Sea Salt Foot Scrub. Happy weekend everyone!

Remedy For Dry & Heaty Cough

I have been coughing for over a week now and the cough gets worse whenever I am sleeping. I was taking Mucoslovan for the phlegm and King-to Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa for the cough but they did not help. Then yesterday, my mom suggested that I drink Ya Sei Mei (24 Herbs Tea) from the herbal drink stall near my house.

The Ya Sei Mei tea consists of 24 herbs all boiled together to make a dark, black, bitter tasting drink. It helps to clear toxic substances and heat from within the body. For extra oomph, you can add a teaspoon of powder into the drink. This powder is actually grind snake grass herb which is a good remedy for heaty body. Whenever I drink Ya Sei Mei, I had to gulp it down asap without stopping. You can imagine the bitterness. Then I’d need to suck on a sweet to get rid of the taste

Guess what? After drinking one big cup yesterday, I could sleep better last night and my coughing has reduced tremendously. I just drank another cup today and hopefully my cough will be gone soon. Have you tried Ya Sei Mei before?

Rectal Suppository For Children

Last week, I bought some suppositories from the pharmacy to stand by as Ashley’s fever was very high, especially at night. I normally give her the suppository when her fever is 39 degree Celsius and above. It brings down the fever way faster than oral medication. However, I really hate having to insert the suppository because it is traumatizing for her. Though she doesn’t kick or fight me off like what she used to do when she was younger, it is still not easy to insert it. Ashley will be crying and sometimes screaming her head off. During this time, the suppository would come right out again *pulls hair*

Do you give your children rectal suppository when their fever is high?

Ashley came down with fever on Tuesday afternoon. By the time we got to the paed, her fever shot up to 39.3 degree Celsius. She looked tired but still got the energy to play at the toy section of the clinic. Her paed said her throat is slightly red but the fever is due to viral infection. She inserted a suppository for her. Ashley looks better today but still feverish. She’s also starting to cough more and sounds like a very phlegmy kinda cough

Ashley had to go for a minor surgery to drain abscess from her right knee. I blogged about it here and here. After the surgery, we had to go back to the hospital every day for the dressing of the wound. We did that for one month. Then when Ashley need not have to do the dressing anymore, she was prescribed Menderma – a topical gel for scar and it has to be applied for 6 months. This is how the scar looks like now….

I guess the scar would not go away. A little reminder of what a small mosquito bite can become.

Besides Augmentin antibiotics, these are the medicines she has to take 3 times a day.

Fever, Phlegm, Lung & Cough syrups

Ashley absolutely hates taking them especially the Phlegm and the Lung syrups. After feeding her, she would vomit. So this means the meds didn’t go into her system. How to get well eh? I’m taking her to the paed again today because there are still a lot of mucus in her nose and she sounds phlegmy too. Aaarrrggghhhhhhh!!!
