Recently when I visited my friend’s home, I fell in love with her garden. She has so many green leafy plants and flowering trees in her garden. She even planted some near the front door. After seeing her beautiful garden, I just feel like giving mine a makeover. I love having green plants around my home. I should check out the nursery this weekend and get started on my gardening project.
So much to do, so little time. Chinese New Year is just around the corner and there are still a few things in my list which I need to do. Iron my Chinese New Year clothes, cookies shopping, getting all the angpows ready and buy myself a pair of pants. I have been so busy that I do not even have time to read the newspapers or the social security disability write-up. One thing which I managed to complete is my D-I-Y decor. Remember my paper lanterns earlier? Well, here is where I decorate them
I found the branches in TTDI after DBKL trimmed some trees there.
I also used some angpows to cut out Paper Dogwood Flowers which I learned from MarthaStewart.com
I poked a lil hole in the center of each flower and affix them onto the branches
Have you done all the shopping for the Chinese New Year celebration? I still have a few things on my list like shopping for cookies, new clothes for hubs, weight loss supplements as I know I would be eating nonstop during the festive season and perhaps a pair of new jeans for myself. For this year, I have decided to d-i-y the CNY decoration. This is just one of the things I did – A paper lantern.
Got some angpows from last year and cut them up into strips
Gather about 7 strips together and place a thumbtack on each end. Then twist it out slowly to begin to unfold the lantern.
Voila…A paper lantern ornament. Errr…..for this one I actually used the Ikea CNY flyer If you are keen to try making some of these paper lanterns, it would be better to find thicker angpow paper. Old CNY cards are great too.
Stay tuned if you would like to know where I hang these lanterns
A bathroom is a comfortable and relaxing personal sanctuary. Very often, the bathroom is the only quiet place in a busy home. Everyone should like their bathroom. However, if you dislike the way your bathroom looks, perhaps it is time for a bathroom makeover. There are many quick and easy ways to wake up a tired bathroom. If you are on a budget, here are some ways to spruce up your bathroom without breaking the bank.
Changing the bathroom sink may help freshen up the whole room. Vibrant accessories such as the bathroom rug can cozy up the space. You may also want to paint the walls in pastel or neutral shades to make it look serene. Add white or yellow lights to brighten up the room. A bathroom mirror can create an impression that the room is bigger than it actually is. Changing fixtures such as the shower head and shower valves will make your bath feel fresh and fabulous. Last but not least, you may give your bathroom a little extra detailing with bathroom tiles. Installing decorative tiles can make a big difference to a plain-looking bathroom. Check out www.betterbathrooms.com for quality products to update your bathroom.
Since Ashley spends most of her afternoons in the office, we moved her wooden table and chairs there. This way, she would have a proper place to eat and do her homework. As a replacement, we bought her a set of Ikea Mammut Table and Chairs…..all in pink which she picked out herself. Of course she is delighted to have a new set of furniture in her favorite colour They don’t go very well with our existing furniture but what to do eh?

The lil missy was very excited to see the drinks and wanted me to snap a photo of her with the drinks

Green Tea is a powerful antioxidant which can reduce the risk of stroke, heart failure, cancer and diabets. Those who have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cholesterol, Infection Impaired Immune Function and need a Detox ought to drink Green Tea.
What I like about C2 – Cool and Clean Green Tea is that it is not too sweet. It is best to chill them before drinking. C2 – Cool and Clean Green Tea is definitely a healthier alternative to carbonated drinks. Which flavor is my favourite? Well I have to say that I like all 3 of them

This year I am so far behind. I have yet to do some thorough cleaning around the house like scrubbing the tiles, cleaning the kitchen cabinets, washing the windows and etc. I also have not bought all the stuff I need to buy like cookies, mandarin oranges, haven’t got a haircut and worse….I haven’t even bought any new clothes for myself. Went to the mall today with the intention of shopping for a nice top but couldn’t find any and I walked till I almost dropped There is only one more weekend before the Year of the Tiger arrives. Luckily I bought Ashley’s clothes a few months ago and recently her por por bought her a pair of new shoes and skirt. Will blog about this later. These are some of the things that I managed to do for my house.
My bamboo sticks decorated with some red velvet twine and 4 branches of red flowers.
I bought a funny looking fish to hang outside my house. I should have bought the butterflies.
Got a red colour wooden bowl for decoration. Just want to get something red for the tv stand I’ll probably put some mandarin oranges in it.
Chinese New Year is less than a month away. It is time to make way for good luck and fortune in the coming year. The Chinese always believe that it is very important to give the house a thorough cleaning to clear away rubbish and sweep away all the misfortune. It is also equally important to de-clutter the home and get organized. I plan to do so very soon and one of the biggest problem areas in my house is my living room. When you have a kid, there is bound to be toys everywhere. There are also a number of cellphones and bunches of keys sitting on the top of our console table. Besides those things, sometimes there are paper clips, hair clips and what-have-yous on the table. One word – Messy. I want to get this area organized with great discounts from Organized.com. I just saw some fabulous basket containers from Organized.com. These stunning square baskets are made from hand woven pandan and are just perfect for me to put all the cellphones, keys and knick-knacks in. I can even use the large one to keep the toys. I love the colour red on these storage baskets as red is an auspicious colour for the Chinese New Year. I cannot wait to get my home organized in time to welcome the new year.
I am boiling another pot of Luo Han Guo drink today. Hubs is coughing a bit and my throat feels itchy. MIL has been coughing and sniffling too. Since Ashley just recovered from her cough recently, I thought I better boil this drink for everyone at home. The cough virus is going around Luo Han Guo is well known for its sweet taste and is part of the Gourd family. It is a medicinal herb for treating cough, sore throat and expel phlegm. Too bad it does not promote weight loss, otherwise, I would drink this every day
I used 2 medium sized Luo Han Guo
About 6 pieces of mut cho (dried dates)
Put everything into a pot and boil for over 2 hours in low heat. I can smell the aroma of the Luo Han Guo now so I guess, my drink is almost ready Ashley does not like this drink at all but I force make her drink it.
