Another Roadtrip

Posted on Sep 01, 2011 under family, good stuff, travel | 15 Comments

How’s your Raya/Merdeka holidays peeps?  Enjoying yourselves?  Can’t believe that the holidays are coming to an end and I have to go to work tomorrow :(    On the bright side, tomorrow is Friday :P

We took another road trip yesterday and hubs decided to go to Bentong for some homemade ice-cream.  He remembers having this yummy ice-cream when he was a kid and had been raving about it.  Hubs actually forgot the name of the ice-cream place but we googled Bentong Ice cream and saw many blog posts on Kow Po Coffee Shop which serve delicious homemade ice cream.

We arrived in Bentong after a 45 mins drive from KL.   We were lucky to be able to get a table right away :)

Hubs and I shared this Jumbo set which consists of 3 scoops of Ice cream (choc, durian and vanilla).  The ice-creams are really good. They are so smooth and creamy.  Their best seller is of course the durian flavour ones and ice kacang.  Besides ice cream, you can also order yong tau foo.  This ice cream place is so packed and the crowd kept coming in.  We spent about 20 mins here and then head over to our next destination.  We will definitely return to this hidden gem in Bentong.  Coming up next is another  good eating place we went to.  Do stay tuned :)

Seafood Restaurant In Tg. Sepat

Posted on Jun 09, 2011 under food, travel | 11 Comments

A continuation on our trip to Bagan Lalang.  After having spending some time at the Lover’s Bridge, we walked over to the restaurant for lunch.  There are 2 restaurants at the entrance to the bridge.  One is Ocen Seafood Restaurant and the other one is Restoran Ban Joo Heng.   We went to the later one.

Here’s what we ordered

Stir fried Cantonese Noodle (wat tan hor) for Ashley

The food was not bad except for the crabs.  They thought Ashley was going to eat them so they didn’t add any chilli.  The plate of crabs was pretty bland to me.  Total bill comes to about rm80.  Cheap eh?

We went home after lunch.  Along the way, there are many dragonfruit farms and also stalls selling the fruits.  We told Ashley that we would be stopping at a farm because I have never seen dragonfruit trees before.  She was pretty excited because she said she has never seen a farmer before :D

dragonfruit2

Unfortunately, the farm where we stopped was closed.  I could only take a photo of the tree from the outside.  Can you see those white paper bags near the tree?  They are used to protect the dragonfruits before being plucked.  Ashley was quite upset that she didn’t get to see a farmer :)   We told her that we’ll look for one next time.

We bought some dragonfruits back.  RM12 for 5 pieces.   That’s all about our road trip. It was fun :)

our road trip to bagan lalang

After hearing so much about Sepang Gold Coast/Morib Beach, Bagan Lalang, we finally made a trip there over the weekend.   The drive was about an hour and we started out late. Made a few pitstops to the gas station, washroom, etc and we finally reached the beach around noon.  It was a hot day.

The missy insisted on changing to this batik outfit when we reached the beach

Next time, we should start our journey early so we can reach  the beach before 10am.  After some fun in the sun, we drove for about 20 minutes to Tanjung Sepat in search of the famous pau shop. Tanjung Sepat is a small fishing town Kuala Langat, Selangor.  It is well-known for its seafood restaurants, keropok, bak kut teh and fishballs. The GPS took us to this coffeeshop – Hai Yew Hin which is famous for its “sang yuk pau”, “mui choy pau”, “vege pau”, “peanut and red bean paus“.  In case you don’t know, you can eat all the above at this coffee shop BUT, you cannot have takeaway.  Means, No Tapau.  Don’t know what kind of crazy service this is.  You can have takeaway but you got to buy them from their shop/factory across the road.   So, I went over and all were sold out.

No choice but to sit in the coffeeshop for a while to savor the famous pau.  Hubs ordered 3 ‘sang yuk’ paus.  I wasn’t in the mood to eat because it was such a hot and stuffy day.   I took a small bite.  Don’t know why they are so famous because they tasted so-so to me.  Nothing spectacular :D

Next, we went to search for the Lover’s Bridge, a landmark in this fishing town.  Found it after a few missed turns.

bridge1

This is the famous bridge.  3/4 of it is made of concrete and the balance made of wooden planks.  This is actually where the fishing boats are moored.  I enjoyed coming here.  It’s very breezy.  I bet it must be beautiful at sunset.  A must-see if you are a visitor to this village.

bridge2

Ms. Cheeky enjoying the breeze.  I only dared to walk about 10 feet on this bridge.  I have this fear of crossing bridges.  Even pedestrian bridge.  Hubs took Ashley all the way towards the wooden planks and came back.  I guess she’s not scared like her mama :)   If only he held my hand too….then perhaps I won’t be so scared =^_^= Ok…that’s all for now.   Will post more about our trip tomorrow.  Do stay tuned.

Nancy’s Kitchen In Melaka

Posted on Mar 24, 2011 under food, travel | 15 Comments

I’ve been reading a number of reviews regarding Nancy’s Kitchen so we decided to have dinner here when we were in Malacca.  Nancy’s Kitchen is famous for Nyonya food and is located near Jonker Street.  This small restaurant is usually packed and we were lucky to be able to find a table that night. However, if you have a big group, it is advisable not to eat there because the service is rather slow and the restaurant is congested.  I was so looking forward to eating Babi Pongteh (Braised Pork with Salted Beans) but alas, they told us it was sold out after we placed the order.  Bummer.  Anyway, we managed to try something else and the food was delicious.  I won’t mind going back to try its other dishes next time.   Here are some photos of the food.

Renewing The Malaysian Passport

Posted on Mar 22, 2011 under ashley, funny, travel | 22 Comments

I finally moved my butt and renewed my passport which has expired a year ago.  I also took this opportunity to get Ashley her first passport too.  Last week, she went to the photo studio to get her passport photo ready.  My sister told her not to smile when taking her photo because she knows Ashley has her signature look i.e. head tilt and fingers on her face pose. :D

This is how her passport photo looks like …..hehehehe.  She looks so matured huh?

We went to the National Registration Department in Puchong Utama which has opened a new Immigration counter complete with modern office furniture to attend to the needs of the residents in Puchong.  We do not reside in Puchong but we still went there because I was pretty sure that this place would not be packed like the ones at Damansara or Wilayah Kompleks.  We arrived at around 8.30am and were Number 5 in line.  Ashley and I got our passports at around 10am.  Fast eh?   The officers were courteous and friendly.  So, if you stay in Puchong or  near its vicinity,  you can go to this Immigration Dept to renew your passport.

Here are our passports in the cute handmade passport holders from Sewing Monster (www.sewingmonster.blogspot.com).  I got the sweet Yumiko holder for Ashley but guess what?  She prefers the one on the right because it has more PINK! *slaps forehead*

Good Food In Melaka

Posted on Mar 21, 2011 under food, travel | 11 Comments

Continuation from the Malacca post earlier :D As soon as we arrived in Malacca, we headed to Geographer’s Cafe for lunch, upon Elaine’s recommendation :)    I love this cafe.  Food was delicious and staff are friendly too.  Located at the intersection of  Jonker Street and Jalan Hang Lekir, this cafe is one of the main attractions in Malacca.  A must try if you are there. Geographer Cafe promotes healthy food and all food is prepared without MSG and they only serve white meat.  Can’t find any red meat here.

I got this photo from their facebook.  Below are what we ordered…

Ashley had Fish & Chips but I didn’t take a photo because she was famished and her meal came last :)

Charlie was hungry too but only get to drink her milk, according to her mommy :)   Stay tuned on where we went for dinner  :)

Hotel Puri, Melaka

Posted on Mar 16, 2011 under family, good stuff, travel | 20 Comments

This time around, we opt to stay in Hotel Puri, a lovely boutique hotel on Heeren Street (Jln Tun Tan Cheng Lock)  which is just next to Jonker Street.  The 50-room hotel is a beautifully restored pre-war building. It has retained almost all its original fittings like the timber carvings, the mosaic floorings and etc.  I heart Hotel Puri.  The room is comfortable, pleasant and affordably priced too.

School is out for a week. Yippee!!!  No need to wake up so early every day and there’s less traffic on the road. Eventhough it is only for a week, it is better than nothing eh?  We  have planned a short getaway…so see you all next week. Enjoy your weekend everyone …… however you plan to spend it :D

here we go again….

Posted on Dec 14, 2010 under ashley, family, travel | 19 Comments

We just came back from our holidays at the beach.  Where did we go?  Avillion, Port Dickson again :D   Guess you know now that we really like this place huh?  We went there just 6 months ago ;)   This time we stayed at the Garden chalet.

As soon as we reached the resort, the lil missy wanted to change right away and hit the beach.  Luckily the weather was not too hot.  Plus it didn’t rain at all when we were there.  I was a little afraid that being the monsoon season now, we may have to stay indoor most of the time.

SAM_0629

SAM_0653

After some time at the beach and the swimming pool, we went back to rest before dinner. The rest was actually for me and hubs.  The 5-year-old did not seem to be tired at all and even serenaded us with a few Christmas jingles.

SAM_0655

After dinner, we went to the coffee house on the 4th floor for some coffee.  There, we were entertained by a belly dancer.

It was a relaxing break for us and most of the time, we just stayed in the room, snacking on junk food, watching crappy movies on tv or reading the magazines. :D   Of course the missy couldn’t sit still and insisted that  she wants to go to the swimming pool, the slide and the kid’s club room.  More boring photos of our trip tomorrow :)
