Dinos Alive @ Pusat Sains Negara

2 weekends ago, we decided to check out the Dinos Alive Exhibition at the National Science Center after reading about it in the newspaper. We missed it the last round they were here. This is the first time we visited the National Science Center too. Ashley was thrilled and she even asked if there were any dinosaurs when I was a kid. Hmmphhh….I’m not that old, am I? Hehehehehe. Here are some of the photos taken that day.

Look who also came to see the dinosaurs? They are Fearles & Cruz, Ashley’s good friends.

The kids had fun exploring the scientific tangibles.

T-Rex at the center court. There are more life-sized animatronic dinosaurs at the upper level but I didn’t take any photos as it was pretty dark there.

The missy wanted to sit on this rubbery and slow dinosaur. RM12 for a 2-minute ride. Before it could take 10 steps, the 2 minute was up

After the dinosaurs exhibition, the kids went to check out more fun things like the one above. One has to pedal real hard to get the fan moving which in turn would ‘swing’ the bike. It was so funny to see the boys pedalling hard while the missy sat behind them.

Here’s another fun thing to do – Musical Fountain. Just step on the white boxes and different music would come on. The fountain shoots out water too when the music is played.

Everyone had loads of fun that day. We missed out the outdoor exhibits as it was a very hot day and we couldn’t wait to get into the car. I heard that there is a butterfly enclosure and dinosaur-shaped plants. Hope to make another trip to the National Science Center again. The tickets for the Dinos Alive is RM12 for adults and RM6 for children below 7.

Should you let your kids eat junk food?

Ashley, like all kids, loves eating chips, pops, candies, chocs or snacks like twisties or mamees. I try to limit them because Ashley has a heaty body. Somehow, she tends to develop ulcers, etc after consuming chocs or cookies too much eventhough she drinks lots of water after that. I don’t buy Twisties or chips so Ashley only eats them when given at parties, at other people’s house or when her grandpa secretly gives them to her. I prefer that she eats ice-creams which she gets to, twice or more a week. She knows what are junk food and that she’s only allowed to eat them once in a while I know I know, some parents may not agree with my parenting style. They think I am being too strict with her We don’t live in a perfect world and there’s junk food everywhere. I am not shielding her from them. I just don’t want her to eat too much. I believe moderation is the key and that she can eat to her hearts content when she’s older because that’s when her immune system is stronger.

Ok enough mumbling for today. What’s your take on junk food for your kids?

On Saturday night, hubs brought us to our favourite Steamboat Restaurant for our favourite Tom Yam steamboat dinner. Besides steamboat, we also ordered a plate of crabs. *Yummy* An early Mother’s Day celebration. Didn’t take any photos of the steamboat but hubs took the crab ones using his mobile phone, hence the funny colour on the photos

Man Tou (Chinese Steamed Buns) to go with the crabs. Super Crabilicious! Then after dinner, we popped over to FnC, the wholesale place that sells lots of made in China goods and hubs stumbled upon his childhood toys – the classic army men. Of course he has to get a packet.

A couple of days ago, Ashley came home from school holding a little envelope. She saw me looking and said, “It’s nothing mom. It’s not for Mother’s Day“. muahahahahha. This girl of mine cannot keep any secrets eventhough she wants to surprise me with something. I pretended not to know anything. Then after she has changed her clothes, she quickly asked her daddy to help her with something. Both of them were doing something quietly at one corner of the living room. I also pretended not to see Actually it was more like she looking at her daddy while he fixed something. It was a funny sight. Last night, she handed me the ‘surprise’ because she could not wait till Sunday.

Ashley’s ad is out already. Yay! It’s for Giant Hypermarket again. Actually the flyer came out on 27th April but I just found out about it today when the agent called me. I thought the ad would only be out in the middle of this month. I have been (still am) rather busy with a few things like planning for Ashley’s coming birthday, her mid-term exam and etc. So many things to do that I forgot to check with the advertising agent about it. I even forgot to check out the discount fragrances that a friend has emailed me some time ago. Anyway, here’s the flyer

Remember the post I wrote earlier about Ashley missing me in school and I gave her my photo to put in her purse? Well, the other day, out of the blue, she returned the photo to me. She said she doesn’t need to see me when she’s in school now. Hmmmm…..a good sign that she’s enjoying school now

Last Friday, on the way home after school, I told Ashley that I missed her and I casually asked her if she missed me too. She said, “No mom. You know….. you have to learn to be independent” and she has that exasperated look on her face. I burst out laughing because that’s what we have been telling her since she started going to P1.

After four months in school and a new form teacher (before, it was the disciplinary teacher who taught the class as her form teacher was on maternity leave), she is now more independent, self-assured and confident. She said she enjoys school now and has been conversing with me in Mandarin (fyi, my Mandarin in only ‘half-bucket’). Nevertheless, I’m glad with her progress now.

cute and colourful papers that is. A trip to IKEA, Daiso or any craft store is enough to make me giddy with excitement. I have a thing for paper, whether it is kraft or pretty ones like below :-

I found this ‘Feeling Paper’ at Daiso the other day. I love its colour and print.

Do you know what is this? I got this from IKEA last Friday. While hubs was busy looking for saft battery, I went around IKEA looking for items for my craft when I saw this colourful paper. It is actually paper napkin. Love the stripes.

Here is another paper napkin. Nice? I don’t know what I would do with them for now but I’ll definitely make something soon.

Almost everyday, Ashley comes home from school with her knees looking like this ….

Not just dirty, but very dirty on both the knees. I asked her what happened and she said “Don’t know”. Need a lot of scrubbing to remove the stains. We always have a good laugh when we see her knees looking like that
