project : bedroom part 1

Posted on Mar 20, 2012 under ashley, home | 22 Comments

Many moons ago, I mentioned that we were trying to get Ashley to sleep in her room.   I tried the Monster Spray and it didn’t really work.  She told me that it’s just a spray with water.  Then, we said we were going to start decorating her room but we didn’t until recently because she has been asking for her own little space.  We went to IKEA recently to get started on the bedroom project :)

Daddy got her a work table and pink chair.

A shelf for storage.  We need to move out the things near the window and put in more storage.  I also managed to clear some of her baby/toddler things. We just got her a bed and mattress.  Stay tuned for part 2 :)

tooth fairy

So, the tooth fairy came and instead of leaving a dollar bill, he (yes, it’s a he) left a little present for her.  Ashley was so excited when she woke up and quickly check to see if the tooth fairy paid her a visit.  She was glad that the tooth fairy took away her tooth and gave her a pink mechanical pencil, complete with a set of pencil lead *smile*  Later, Ashley told me that she wants to be a tooth fairy so that she can fly everywhere and hand out gifts to other children.  She kept asking me to get her a tooth fairy costume *slap forehead*  After pleading asking a few times, I decided to make her one when I was done helping a friend look up some plus size maternity clothes online.

I recycled the cardboard from IKEA that was used to wrap the shelves.  Drew a tooth shape on the cardboard and cut it out.

Then, we painted the cardboard white.

Punch two holes on the cardboard and use a ribbon to tie a loop.  I made 2 cardboard teeth for the costume…one for the front and one for the back.

Here’s the girl wearing the silly tooth fairy costume, complete with a tiara and magic wand.  She forgot her fairy wings though :)

First Visit To The Dentist

Posted on Mar 15, 2012 under ashley | 16 Comments

Last week when I was checking the ulcer in Ashley’s mouth, I saw a lower incisor tooth coming out.  I started to panic a bit because the permanent tooth is growing in but the baby tooth is still intact.   I guess this happens when the permanent tooth did not grow directly under the baby tooth hence it is not pushed out.  With these online college classes you can broaden your understanding of oral science with a degree as a Dental Hygienist.  This means we have to make a trip to the dentist *wipe sweat*.

When I was a kid, the thought of going to the dentist terrified me.  I still remember the big and mean-looking nurse in white uniform at the government clinic. The strong antiseptic smell in the dental clinic was just as terrifying.  I don’t want Ashley to feel the same way as I did so I decided to prepare her for it.  I told her that the dental clinic is nice and has lots of toys and books.  The dentist is just going to check her new tooth and see what we should do.  So the missy was pretty calm and looked forward to seeing the dentist.

Ashley having her teeth checked by the handsome dentist.  She was asking a lot of questions like “what are you doing now, what are you using, is it sharp, are you going to take out my tooth?”…..hahaha.  The dentist was very gentle, told her what he planned to do and answered all her questions.  First he said he will put some minty gel on her gums to numb the area.  Then he will put a magic potion aka the needle to loosen the tooth.  Then he would have to use an elevator to pull out the tooth because his fingers are not strong enough :P   Ashley was a bit scared when the magic potion was being administered.  The extraction was over and done with in less than 5 minutes.    No drama at all *phew*

a short getaway

Posted on Mar 14, 2012 under family, travel | 14 Comments

We just got back from a short break and it was to the beach again!

pd1

We stayed at Thistle this time.  This hotel was previously known as Guoman resort.  The newly refurbished hotel has a private 3km beach,  outdoor swimming pools, separate Kids’ Wet Play Zone, three restaurants, two bars, a Fitness Centre & LifeSpa, SWAT camp, water sports and a spacious tropical garden.

pd3

We booked a Standard King size room but were upgraded to a King Deluxe room with garden view by the hotel.  How nice eh?  Here’s what our room looked like.

The King size bed was huge and oh so comfortable.

Sitting on the swing along the beach.

Most of the time, we just stayed in the hotel, lazed around the pool, walked along the beach or watched tv while munching snacks.  We only went out to look for food during lunch and dinner.  Breakfast was at the hotel too. We really enjoyed our stay at Thistle.  I must say that it is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of KL life.

quick and easy wrap

Posted on Mar 07, 2012 under family, food | 21 Comments

I didn’t feel like going out to eat or cook last Sunday evening as I was so knackered.  So I decided to make some wraps for the family.  Easy peasy dinner that does not require much cooking or washing up.  Save me some time so that I can watch my favourite TVB drama and read the slimvox reviews.   I bought this tortilla wraps recently from Cold Storage.

Mission wholegrain wraps

w2

Ingredients for wrapping – egg, honey ham, lettuce and sausage.  Add in some mayo and ketchup for the missy.  Hubs likes his with some mustard and relish.  Yeah, he’s a funny one.

w3

Roll the wrap and dinner is ready.

Missy said it was good eventhough everything came out from the wrap while she was biting it…hahahahha.

for the love of hello kitty

I am sure many have seen this debit card by Hong Leong Bank?

k1a

Well, I have a Hello Kitty fan at home and she was asking for this card.  I didn’t really read what is this card for and I thought it’s an ATM card.  Silly me!  This is a Debit Card which you will get when you open a Savings Account with Hong Leong Bank.  Children are not allowed to have an ATM card or a Debit card hence they cannot open this Savings Account with the bank.  In order not to disappoint the Hello Kitty fan, her dear aunt made her one *shake head*

k

The front of the card.  I think she googled for an image, print it out using the colour printer, cut it out and paste it onto a cardboard.   Looks like the real thing eh?

k2

The back of the card which is the give away as the missy asked how come her card does not have a black strip and it was not embossed :)   She probably also expect the card to arrive by courier and wrapped in foam rolls. Nevertheless, she loves the Hello Kitty card which was made with ♥.  Just one of the things that her aunts would do for her.  She’s so spoilt!

SAM_2473

Oh, Hong Leong Bank did give her some sweet pink Hello Kitty balloons after all.  Did I mention that she’s spoilt?

something true

Posted on Mar 02, 2012 under me, rant | 10 Comments

I was blog-hopping last night and came upon a “Something True About Yourself” post by one of my favourite bloggers.  Thought I’ll borrow the idea from her and do one too.  Below are something true about me :

* I am starting to get pigmentation on my face….due to age perhaps?

* I am a worry-wart!

*  I have oily hair and there is nothing much I can do about it.  I inherited this genes from my dad.

* I suck at maths (that’s why I’m sending Ashley to mental maths)

* I’m scared of walking on bridges. I have this fear of falling.

* I am very impatient.

* I get p*ssed when I hear people brag.

* I don’t know how to accessorize with belts.

*  I get super cranky when my house is in a mess (which is like all the time).

Would you like to share something true about yourself?  It can be anything, big or small, something that makes you happy or otherwise :)

Have a great weekend peeps!
