Homework Marathon

Ashley went to school today after being absent for a week as she was unwell.  Guess how many homework she has to do?

There are 14 books in the above photo.  These are the ones that the teacher handed to me.  She gave 4 books to Ashley this morning so that she could do them in class.  Altogether there are 18 books to do.  Each one has at least 2 pages 🙁

I cannot let Ashley skip the homework because if I do that, she won’t be able to learn the new words.  I offered to do the colouring for her but she said no as her teacher told them that they have to do the work themselves 😀  She has a few days to complete the homework but I rather do them asap because she has this week’s homework to do too.  If your children are in primary school, what happens when they are absent from school?  Do they have tons of homework to catch up too?

  1. Yes, Barb. That’s why my boy insists on going to school even when he is not feeling well for fear of accumulative homework.. Good and bad.

i still cannot understand why there is so much homework. *sigh*

We pity our kids but it is good thing that they want to do the homework themselves…

All these things about mountainful of homeworks makes me scared to think of the future when Ethan will be in school! Whatever happen to those times when we were in school? happy happy only kan?

Last month Feb, my std 1 boy only went to school for 1 day. He was on MC for 13 days. That is 2 1/2 weeks. My std 3 girl was on MC for 6 days. For the boy, I had to speak to the teachers individually. Of course he has lots of homework to catch up with but we’re taking our time. He will do what is necessary now and the rest later, maybe during the March school holidays. When he went back to school yesterday, he brought back about 6 new books and several exercise books, so he is very far behind. He has missed at least 3 rounds of spelling, ejaan and ting seah. As for the girl, she is still catching up with homework and she has tests next week. However, so far for both of them, the teachers have not complained about our slowness in catching up.

oh dear. sorry to hear about your boy, MG. at least the teacher allow your son to finish the work slowly. kids nowadays are so pitiful 🙁

When my April skipped school, we actually called up her classmate and followed up with her homework immediately.

My girl skipped school for 2 days due to her toothache recently. Luckily, her teacher helped with the homework in school, a few books, I think.

I really wonder what happens to nowadays education. Children are being more academically raised….There are pros and cons.

  9. Shirley Loo says:

wow..I cant imagine when Kyle’s turn to go to std 1.. this much of home work if skipped school… all the best to Ashley n u Barb…gambateh!

  10. Wow..it is scary to see this pile of homework.

Looking at Ashley’s homework, I am feeling a different kind of STRESS here. Chloe’s kindy is homework-less! Totally no homework at all. I wonder if she can catch up with the academic-race once she’s out of pre-school…

  12. Hayley says:

Wow, guess Ashley gotto speed up now =_=
    Gambateh ya!!

    OMG… that’s a lot to do.

When YX was sicked for almost 1 week last month, I purposely when to his kindie to ask the teacher for his homework. I was worried that he will be lazy to do the accumulated homework.

When my gals were absent from pre-school, I picked up their homework from the school and let them do at home. This way, they don’t hv to go thru the homework marathon stress later 😛

Oh gosh….scary. So far I have not had to deal with homework coz my boy does them during daycare. If miss school….also no homework to bring back. Don’t know if this is good or bad.

Poor girl. How is she feeling now?

    she’s better, thanks 🙂

  17. Joyce says:

Omg.. 14 books?! Can drag till the weekend and slowly let her do and rest in between? A has 5 books of homework in a day 2 days back. I cant imagine if he falls sick.

Yes can drag till the weekend but I made her finish them in 2 days. A military mom huh? That’s because she has spelling/ejaan and ting xie every week so she has to learn the words asap by writing them. Can’t delay 🙁 Plus, every day she has daily homework so can’t afford to do them slowly 🙁 How is A coping?

My daughter has an average of 10 books of homework everyday and she is in Std 6 now. UPSR year and her teachers told them not to get sick. Have to attend class as usual even on holidays. I felt the stress too. Pity today’s kids.

  19. Annie Q says:

Barb, i read i also can feel the stress!!

When i bring my boys for holidays this time..i told the teacher, she ask the flight timing, then she said she will only let them bring back the bulk homework after the holiday and on weekend. But so far still ok, not as bad as Ashley.

  20. chinnee says:

Barb, you dont have to worry anymore when Ashley get into std 1 later. Due to syllabus changed, their study life become so much relax now. Am sure Ashley have learned more than she need by the time she goes to std 1.

oh really? what do you mean changed syllabus? less books to read? less homework?
