There are 2 avid gamers in my house and they are my husband and my daughter. My husband plays games on his phone and also on his iPad during 80% of his free time. When he was a kid, he used to play the Atari home video console and ColecoVision. Then he moved on to Nintendo, Sega Mega Drive, Playstation and now he only plays online games because it is easier for him to play on the go using his phone or tablet. He is into strategy games such as Ocean & Empire and West Game.
Ashley also loves playing online games like Minecraft which she is only allowed to play on the weekends. I am not a big gaming fan like them but I do play online games occasionally. I still remember the last time when I was seriously into games about 10 years ago. I was hooked on Fishville and Farmville, and was practically glued to the laptop or the tablet. Those were the good old days of fish rearing and harvesting my crops.
Although playing games has been getting a lot of bad press, it also have many benefits and plays a positive role in our lives. Playing games is fun and below are some of the ways it can help us:-
- Improve the ability to multi-task as well as improving decision making skills.
- Some games like Minecraft require strategic and logical thinking. This helps to stimulate minds and improve cognition.
- Gaming can help boost confidence which may be lacking in other aspects of a person’s life.
- It is a great way to interact with people who have the same interest and make friends.
Recently I discovered some really cool games that I can play online for free. At Plays.org, there are many fun online games that I like to play such as Neon Invaders which is a game inspired by the classic Space Invaders arcade game. I used to play this when I was a kid so this sure brings back memories. Another classic is Pac Rat Game, inspired by Pac Man. Sometimes when work gets overwhelming in the office, I would go to Plays.org and spend some time playing the games. These games are great stress-reliever to take my mind off some things.
This neon invaders are so much fun. I love the colors on the screen.
My score today. I need to improve!
Another game that I like is Super Tetris Logic Puzzle Game which is a modern twist to the Tetris game. I used to play a lot of Tetris on the Gameboy and I find that it is more challenging to play Super Tetris on the computer or the phone.
I was crazy over Zuma in the early ’00s and I just spotted The Sorcerer which is a similar game as Zuma. Boy, this fast-paced ball chain game is so exciting and I am hooked again. I also enjoy playing the Wording Word Spelling game where the player just tap on the letter tiles to spell words from the given alphabets. This brain teaser game is a great mental stimulator and made me put on my thinking cap.
It looks easy but it is not. I was stuck at certain levels because I did not know some of the words. Luckily I got some clues by tapping on the lightbulb that is placed on the bottom right hand corner.
Plays.org has over 100 browser-based games and you can easily find the games that you like from their catalog which is located at the bottom of the website. The games are listed in categories such as Classic, Holiday, Golf, Logic, kids, simulation and more. What I like about Plays.org is that there is no need to download any software to play any games.
