A new pet

Recently we visited the Pet World exhibition in Mid Valley.  As usual, there were many dogs of all breeds and sizes, cats, furry animals like rabbits, hamsters and etc.  Ashley kept asking for a dog eventhough I have been telling her that she can only have one when she’s 10.  She was of course pretty upset that we didn’t want to pay RM1800 for a beagle or a poodle.  While on the way out, I saw this stall selling UAN Triops which is also known as the Dinosaur Shrimps.  They are prehistoric fossil from the dinosaur age.   The stall has a few UAN Triops  swimming in the water and they look pretty cute.  According to the instructions, we just need to add water and wait for them to hatch.  Ahhh…… a pet that is easy to take care.   It cost RM35 for 2 boxes so I quickly bought them and gave Ashley her new pet.

This is how the Triops look like.  They do look like crayfish to me.

The box include a water container, a temperature strip, plastic tube, magnifier, Triops eggs and food.

We Ashley was so excited and couldn’t wait to see the special aquatic pet. As soon as we reached home, we quickly read the instructions and got started immediately.

We filled the tray with mineral water, checked the temperature and released the eggs.  According to instructions, the eggs will hatch in 1 or 2 days’ time.  So, we wait, and wait and wait.  It has been a week and there is no sign of any eggs hatching.  I think we have been scr*wed!

Update:  The company in Taiwan has replied to my query and they are now sending me an additional 2 boxes for free because they also cannot understand why the eggs won’t hatch 🙂  So, we weren’t scr*wed afterall…heheheh

Oh no! Really? Take it back to get a refund! I have a fish pet that I’m waiting to die! But it’s taking forever! 9 months already still alive & kicking. Yish, that means more fish food, more water changing etc etc. I want sashimi!!!!

Sigh, I can’t because the office is in Singapore. I only found that out after the exhibition. I did write to the main office in Taiwan. still waiting for their reply.

Is it not enough water? Like my magic egg for Calvin, instruction said it will hatch about 12 hrs or more…but we waited and waited. Ended the second day only hatched.

  4. Oh no, Ashley must be very disappointed about this. Why not bring back to shop to ask for exchange? Who knows, they might give you a new one. I am interesting to find out the outcome. The reason is that Shenny is the same like Ashley always pestering us to get her a puppy. If yours work, I might do the same, hehe…

  7. interesting. why not get her a mini fish tank. It would be nice to have some bright colored gold fish swimming around.

Ya, I think the eggs had expired and it is fair to demand a replacement, after all it does not come cheap! What a disappointment for Ashley!

Aiks, I think you should bring it back to the shop and ask for a refund/exchange. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Sounds interesting but too bad yours didn’t work. If it did, I might go get one too hehe 🙂

It sounded a little too good to be true. Hmm. Nvm thanks for sharing so next time if I ever buy a pet I must make sure it’s not from Singapore. Hahahah.

Those things look freaky. They’re like a cross between a cockroach and a fish. It’s Jurassic Park coming to life!
