counting down

February is finally here and it is less than a week till Chinese New Year. We are looking forward to celebrating it.  So, I have this crazy idea of doing something for Ashley to countdown to the First Day of the Chinese New Year.  I decided to create a Chinese Advent Calendar.  The Advent Calendar is a special calendar used to count or celebrate the days in anticipation of Christmas (according to Wikipedia).  Here is what I did …

I got ready 10 Angpow packets (which I received from the banks and local companies last year and put in a sweet in every packet.

Clothes pegs for my project

Punched a hole on every angpow and clipped them onto a cord.   Then I hang them on the staircase so that every morning when Ashley comes downstairs, she will open one packet for each day leading to the Chinese New Year.

A close-up of the angpow packets. I wrote the number at the side of each angpow.  Ashley looks forward to opening one every morning to find out what kind of sweets that is inside and how many days till CNY 🙂

  1. good idea. I like the red and white twines.. reminds me of the paper bags of yesteryears.. my relative stuff a live chicken in those bags to give away to use and the twines are always red/white too. Do you remember them ?

yes, they do remind me of the paperbags of yesteryears. I spotted them from a quaint little shop in Jonker Street. The owner said he ordered them from Shanghai in the 1960’s. I don’t know if he was pulling my leg or what. He kept saying they are dusty and sold to me for rm6 a bunch. I was ecstatic 😀

This is a nice way to count down to CNY. Instead of putting in sweets, may be can also put in some CNY greeting notes to surprise Ashley.

Hehehe, what a cute and fresh idea!

Maybe I should copy this idea, because my girl keeps asking me, “How long to CNY?”. But then again, she can count down to the day we visited Legoland, cheh.
