I was feeling a bit under the weather hence no mood to do any crafts 🙁 We were supposed to have dinner with our relatives on Saturday night but it was postponed to Sunday. So, we decided to make our way to Publika for its first Bon Odori festival. I’ve always wanted to attend the Bon Odori festival which is held yearly in Shah Alam but I always forget about the event. I dressed Ashley up in her Jinbei which our dear friend, Junko bought for her during one of her trips back to Japan and off we went at around 7pm.
This is the “pls-make-sure-this-is-the-last-photo-mommy” look.
We went to the open air area of Publika where there is a stage at the center. That is where the ‘Best Yutaka’ contest was held. There is another mini stage with 4 Japanese dancers doing the Bon Odori dances ~ Anpanman Ondo, Ninninnintama Ondo, Hanagasa Ondo and Tokyo Ondo. Many adults and children also joined in the dances and went round the mini stage.
the mini stage
Japanese children wearing yukata and dancing away. So adorable!
Ashley joining in the dance. At first I kept asking her to join them and she said, “Don’t force me, mom. I will go when I want to go“. Sassy! After waiting for a while, she joined the crowd and went round the mini stage. She said she enjoyed herself very much and wants to go again next week *slaps forehead*. It’s only once a year…hahahahaha. We will definitely go again if Publika were to hold another Bon Odori.
OH, I want to go too! It’s still on going this weekend? I also saw lots of Yukata on sale at Jusco last week.
Shireen, I’m afraid it’s only a once a year affair 🙁
“Don’t force me, mom. I will go when I want to go“ tells me that she has grown up so much.
yes, she has indeed grown up a lot ever since she started P1 🙂
Clap! Clap! I saw the video clips you uploaded on FB. Ash is so brave and a natural in dancing.
Ai…I missed this event again! Ashley looked so cute in that pic holding a balloon.
I was there too!! We went there early and left before 8pm :P. Ashley look nice in her outfit.
She seems mature and have her own thought by saying that “Don’t force me, mom. I will go when I want to go“
Never had the chance for Bon Odori 🙁
Ashley is cute in her jinbei~ But make sure she’s in lovely yukata next year, ok!
thanks. yeah, i hope she gets to wear a yakuta next year 🙂
How fun–love the little outfit!
She looks good on the yukata. Its held outside in the hotair??
This Bon Odori have lots of food stall like the one in Panasonic Shah Alam?
yes, it’s held at the square which is open air. there were some food stalls selling japanese food, japanese beer and also daiso selling snacks/coffee 🙂
Sassy Ashley! She’s also so brave to join in the crowd and dance together!
hahhaa…yes she is!
oh..there was a mini one too? must be better for the kids at least not too crowded compare to the one at stadium shah alam.
yes, this is better for kids 🙂
Ashley is such a brave and sporting girl – dancing with total strangers, I think my children are too shy for this kind of outing.
Then you should have come for the party!!!
