Hepatitis A Vaccination

We took Ashley to her paed today for her first Hep. A jab. I was a bit worried how she would react since she is so afraid of doctors now. As soon as we got down from the car and walked towards the clinic, Ashley started to cry a bit because she knew where we were going. Once inside, she didn’t want to play at the slide or touch the toys. Luckily we were 2nd in line so didn’t have to wait that long. She started to sob when her name was called. This time, she didn’t try to run away. LOL. She just sat on my lap and cried when her paed opened her mouth to check and do the necessary.

Then when we put her on the bed, she also didn’t struggle although she was crying. It was over in less than 5 minutes. Phew! Her paed noticed that there is a slight improvement and Ashley is not that afraid of the doctor anymore. She even said ‘bye’ and waved before we went out of the room.

Actually Ashley’s jab was due on 6 June but we didn’t bring her there because we didn’t want to traumatise her after her recent bout of fever, flu and cough. The nurses at the clinic said they normally call to remind parents about the vaccination but they didn’t call me because they know how afraid Ashley is. They wanted to give me some time first 😀 Her 2nd jab will be in January 2008. From now until then, Ashley doesn’t need anymore vaccinations unless we take her in for the Pneumococal jab. She only needs 1 since she is already 2 years old. Will see how it goes a month from now ;D

Good to hear about Ashley is not afraid of doctor now. They will as they grow. Qiqi was like that too, cried a little but sit quietly on my lap while dr examined her. Now she can go into the room, sit on the chair by herself and do what they dr request her to do.

My elder boy was like that when he was younger. He can recognize the clinic & will start to struggle the moment we enter. However, as time goes by, he is ok to visit the clinic nowdays bcos the doctor always gives him sticker, balloon & candy… hahaha ;D

Bravo to Ashley… ‘tai kor lui’ already, wont cry anymore. Some paeds are really skillful in administering jabs. We hv a paed who was so good that both our gals didnt even realize that the needle was already in.
