Colourful Packets of Happiness From Texas Chicken

Chinese New Year celebration is almost over. We headed back to Ipoh for a few days to celebrate. It was a pretty rush trip and it rained everyday when we were there.

Before I forget, I want to share about the little joy that I encountered just before CNY. So hubs and I were just having a simple meal at Texas Chicken, and I ordered my usual 2-piece chicken meal. While waiting, I noticed their angpow packets and immediately fell in love. The colors were so vibrant and cheerful, and the designs were beautiful. They feature  oriental elements like vases, lanterns, fans, and other classic motifs that instantly put me in a festive mood.

Naturally, I asked the staff if I could have a packet. That’s when the tiny heartbreak happened. Was told that the angpows were only given free with purchases of RM50 and above. Sad.

Fast forward to after we finished eating. Hubs went to throw the garbage and then he came back with a packet of angpow in his hand. It’s a brand new, unopened packet of the Texas Chicken angpow, sitting right on top of the shelf near the garbage bin. Someone must have left it there, maybe they don’t use angpows or maybe they forgot.

He brought it back to the table for me, and I immediately looked around to make sure it didn’t belong to anyone. No one seemed to be looking for it. So… I guess the angpow gods decided it was meant to be mine.

I was so happy. Such a small thing, but it completely made my day. Proof that sometimes, happiness really does show up when you least expect it. And…nope, I didn’t use them. Going to add these cute angpow packets to my collection.

The back of the angpows has messages printed on them.
