I don’t want to go to school

Ashley has been telling me that she doesn’t want to go to school.  It is getting more and more often, especially before bed or when we are in the car and about to drop her off.    I asked her why and she said her teacher (Teacher Joey) scolds her.  There are 2 teachers in every class and Ashley’s teachers are Mrs. D who teaches English and BM, and Teacher Joey who teaches Mandarin.   She always tell me that she doesn’t like Teacher Joey because she scolds her.  I asked her why and she said she did not pay attention 😀

Last night, she couldn’t find her Chinese workbook and was pretty scared.  Poor girl.   I told her not to worry and I would go up to her class the next morning to check with the teacher.   So this morning, I went up with her and apparently her teacher has taken all their Chinese workbooks as she wanted to check them.  So whilst I was there, I asked how Ashley was doing and I told Teacher Joey that she has been telling me that she does not want to go to school.  Her teacher told me that she’s doing well in school but she loves to talk and disturb her classmates sometimes.  Ahhhhhh…..I know my daughter loves to talk and she does that at home all the time.  Ashley doesn’t like it when the teacher reprimands her 🙂   Being the only child at home, I can understand that she gets very excited when she sees her friends.  Hence, she loves to talk to them.  I explained that to Teacher Joey.  Guess I’ll just have to keep reminding Ashley to pay attention, listens to the teachers and don’t disturb her friends.  Hopefully she would love going to school again  *sigh*

Oh poor thing… may be it’s just some tantrum?
Hope she’ll be fine after some times…

AT this age it is understandable.. she is still young.. my kids also started going at the age of 3 plus.. they complained at times too.. but turned into deaf ears..

It is certainly challenging to raise a child, especially in this world where some teachers have hidden agenda. I think yeah, speaking to the teacher might help resolve the problem. Of you can bribe your daughter with presents, although that is too short-sighted. Heck, what do I know, I just got married! 😛

Glad that you have found out more from her teacher. Going to school can meet more friends, this was the sentence that I spoke to my May when she refused to go to school.

  6. Ian too, being the only child at home, gets excited when he has kids around him and talks non-stop. I have to keep reminding him not to talk too much and pay attention in class. At times he still get reprimanded by his teacher for talking too much! On a positive note, being a chatter box has its good too, at least making friends is a breeze to him. 😛

Understand how you feel, Barb. I had the exact experience like your Ashley – my girl told me about how she dislike going to school because her teacher scolded her for she was talking & loitering too much in her classroom. I said teacher would only scold naughty girl and asked her to behave. Keke…

  11. Paik Ling says:

It’s great that you managed to have a word with her teacher so that the teacher understands Ashley’s fear as well.

  12. rachel says:

Philip is the same. Sometimes he dont want to go to school. Giving me all sort of excuses. As soon as he steps in to the class, he is totally different. He seems to be enjoying and playing..HAPPY la..

  13. Mummy Gwen says:

Ashley is a chatterbox ya..hehe..cute. Gwen pulak says she likes school..haha..same reason she wants to play with her friends. I told her must study also..she gave me her unhappy face. LOL.

we always have to listen to both sides of story before jumping to conclusion as kids always go home complaining of their teachers 🙂

i’ve experienced all that while teaching in kindie last time and sometimes, one teacher’s doing, another gets the blame @_@

  15. ChloeMummy says:

She’s just being a little too friendly in class. Since she’s doing well in school, no worries lah. Maybe you can promise her a hotel stay as a reward if she behaves well in school? 🙂

  16. I would have gone and talked to her teacher too. It is important for parents and teachers to communicate with each other 🙂

  17. Jen Cheung says:

hahahaha barb! ashleys funnny story lah 🙂

  18. Shenny also loves to talk to her friends when her teacher teaching, so she always gets punishment. Yet, she still loves to go to school, because staying alone at home is no fun. That is the disadvantage being a only child at home right now.

  19. health freak says:

Ashley sounds like Sherilyn! Sher is also very very chatty and playful in class :S

  20. I think we should put Ashley, Sherilyn n Amber together. Gosh ! 3 chatterboxes out-doing each other. . LOL !
Joke aside, single child is liddat. They are lonely at home and wanna talk till no end with their friends.
