udon lookalike

After seeing how WokkingMum made some udon lookalike, I decided to cook some for Ashley.  They look like udon but are actually noodles made of fish paste.  I used ABC soup as broth 😀

A tub of fish paste

cooking the udon lookalike in the pot

a plain bowl of fish paste udon without any vege as the lil’ missy is not fond of them.

I did not add any salt to it because the ABC soup has everything.  So, how did I get the fish paste to look like udon?  Here is the tip by WokkingMum.  I put the fish paste into a plastic bag and push them to the bottom.  Then I twist the top of the bag to secure it and snip a tiny corner off the plastic bag.  Remember  not to snip too big a hole because the fish paste will come out thick.  When broth is simmering, I squeeze the bag to get the fish paste into the broth.  Each time, I would squeeze till they are about 6 inches long so that they would look like udon.  Once you have finished, wait for the fish paste noodles to float up to the surface.  This means they are cooked.  Ashley liked this dish so I’m going to make it for her again.

Where did you buy the fish paste from? Would squeezing the fish paste out from the hole in the plastic bag be difficult? Does the paste come out nicely and easily?

i bought it from the market..saito fish. it’s not hard to squeeze it out…just cut a tiny hole. The paste can come out easily 😀

What a coincidence!I made this too for my lil Ashley, only I added some minced carrot in the fish paste cos like your Ashley, mine doesn’t really like vegetables. But I still want her to eat some veges.
