coconut

About 4 weeks ago, I started buying coconut water for Ashley to drink.  My mother suggested this as it helps to reduce heatiness in the body and at the same time, Shireen also told me that she buys coconut water for girls.  Ashley’s body is pretty heaty despite not taking much fried food or cookies.  I found a seller near my office and a coconut cost rm2.70.  One whole coconut has about 18ml of juice (about 3 cups).  I buy it once a week and on other days, I would boil unsweetened barley water and “chat sing cha” (herbal drink) for her.  I hope that drinking coconut water on a weekly basis will help to reduce the excessive heat in Ashley’s body.   According to sources,  coconut water is more nutritious than whole milk and healthier than Orange Juice 🙂

I googled and found more health benefits :

  1. Keep the body cool and at the proper temperature.
  2. Orally re-hydrate your body, it is an all natural isotonic beverage.
  3. Carry nutrients and oxygen to cells.
  4. Naturally replenish your body’s fluids after exercising.
  5. Raise your metabolism.
  6. Boost your immune system.
  7. Detoxify and fight viruses.
  8. Cleanse your digestive tract.
  9. Control diabetes.
  10. Aid your body in fighting viruses that cause the flu, herpes, and AIDS.
  11. Balance your PH and reduce risk of cancer.
  12. Treat kidney and urethral stones.
  13. Boost poor circulation

I had coconut drink during the end of my pregnancies. It’s said to cool down body heatness and the babies would be born with less body rashes. Dunno how true, but I sure enjoyed my drinks.

Coconut water has a lot of health benefits, but my children don’t really know to appreciate it. So, I stop buying it for them already. Instead, I boil crysanthemum drinks every weekend.

Makes me quenching for coconut water now.. hey, in my area, they are sold at RM3…but worth it la.. they cut up everything for me plus the flesh.. 🙂

Mm yum, looking at that pic makes me thirsty.

  11. Actually why do u think Ashley’s body is heaty? Just wondering what r the signs…:)

Dinah, Ashley is very prone to throat infection and mouth ulcers. The Chinese believe that these are some of the signs of heatiness in the body. Sometimes her voice is hoarse too (not sure if it’s due to talking too much) and my mom always say that Ashley is heaty.

  12. wenn says:

I didn’t know coconut water is so good. I heard it’s “leung” so should be able to fight the heatiness.

  15. ChloeMummy says:

Nothing beats the refreshing feeling of sipping chilled coconut water on a hot day! Hope Ashley likes it and it helps to reduce the heatiness in her. I haven’t tried giving this to Chloe though. One day must try…

I really hope that coconut water and barley water will keep Ashley free from throat infections for a long long time! It works really well for me & my girls.

  22. Irene says:

oh we take this once awhile too, krys loves it. good for heaty-ness hor.

  23. coconut water has lots of minerals and kids are heaty coz they lack hydration and minerals. I love coconut water but getting them is a problem but I see lots of coconut stalls sprouting up during Ramadhan month, must drink more now.
Try Pocari Sweat, less sweet compared too 100 + and I find it quite cooling to the body too.
