When I saw Alice of My Little Sprouts making some Chocolate Ice Cream Mooncakes for her little ones, I thought I would try to make them too since they don’t require any baking. Here’s what I did…..
Bought a tub of cookies & cream ice-cream and a bar of cooking chocolate.
Teddy Bear Jelly Mould from 100 Yen and Mooncake moul from Bake With Yen (thanks to Sasha’s recommendation)
Double boil the chocholate to melt them.
Pour the chocolate into the moulds. Not nicely done because the choc was kinda thick. I should have poured the melted chocolate into the mould and swirl them around for easy coating instead of using a butter knife to coat the sides.
Put the mould into the freezer for 5 minute to freeze the chocolate. Then take it out and pour in the ice-cream. Put the mould back into the freezer for an hour or so. Last step is to pour the remaining melted chocolate onto the ice cream as a base.
Tadaa……the mini chocolate ice cream mooncakes
I also bought some orange chocolate and a different jelly mould. The result – Orange Chocolate Ice Cream Mooncakes 🙂 It’s fun to make them.
Cute, Barb! so..no need to diet anymore.. hehehe…
i remove the chocs before eating 😛
I have never seen orange chocolate! I’ve been meaning to make these after reading about it from Alice’s blog. Still in the ‘meaning’ stage.
i bought them from the baking supply store 🙂 try it out when you are free. can just rename it after mid-autumn festival is over…:P
This looks really yummy but is it tedious to make them? The chocolate cooking and pouring part sound tedious. I’m sure my 3 girls will love this!
it is tedious..to me lah coz i hardly do stuff like this 😛 Cooking the chocs only take about 10 mins or less. Pouring in is kinda messy though 🙂
Looks really good and easy.i tot moon cake making is messy. Must try !
the orange one looks so cute… i did the choc one, but my son and hubby said the choc coating too thick, not nice, they just eat the ice cream and throw the choc…haha
very nice leh!!! see, you are making mooncakes, bravo friend!!
hahhaha…thanks. this is the easy (lazy) way to make mooncakes 😛
The outcome is so nice. The orange one are cute.
wow nice! thye look really good!!!
thank you 🙂
Happy Mid Harvest Festival to you and your family Barb! Great idea with the ice cream mooncakes. We gave William some traditional ones to try, and he quickly spat it out. I also bought some moon silk cakes for myself..yummy!! Take care!
LOL…I guess William prefers cakes or muffins eh? Ashley likes plain mooncakes only and find the yolks yucky. Enjoy your Mooncake Festival 🙂
I’ve never seen orange chocolate before :O
I wanted to make this mooncake too, after getting the inspiration from Alice and Yan. But haven’t got the mojo to start :p
Look very nice, cute and yummy.
How come didn’t bring some for me to try last night ger?
only a few left and also very malu to make more and bring to your home. let me perfect this recipe first before i let my friends try them….kekekekekek
I saw those colourful (got green, pink, orange) chocolate blocks in Giant too but dare not buy haha. The outcome is great. I feel like making some too but must go and buy some cute moulds first 🙂
Really busy these days, only get to drop a mesage for u here. I never try before orange chocolate…must be very nice rite?

These are so cute!!! If I can find some mooncake moulds, I’d like to try them out too because my kids don’t like the traditional mooncakes 😛

I was amazed when seeing your orange chocolate mooncakes. Cute.
