I didn’t watch the Gilded Chopstick TVB drama but I know recently this show has made the “Salted Fish buns” very popular. I have never heard or tried this before until recently. We were at Pat Kin Pat San, another Hong Kong style ‘Tea Restaurant’ in Pearl Point and spotted the Salted Fish Buns on the menu. Out of curiosity, we decided to order a plate.
These buns are filled with minced pork , vegetable and salted fish. Verdict? The ones I had were kind of oily and they are just like steamed pork with salted fish. I think I prefer to have the steam version without the dough. I love eating steam pork with salted fish. Perhaps I should try the buns from another restaurant.
Because of that drama, I was curious of that salted fish bun too ! haha….
yes, that’s why i wanted to try it out 😛
Because of that drama also I tasted the “Ham Yu Pao”. Hubby bought it from Penang. Really looks like those in the drama thick and flatten type. Taste also so so only.
Looks like yours one here, is crunchy from the outside.
yeah tasted so so only. i think i won’t buy again 🙂
Never heard of them. hehehe….trust TV to educate us all. Though I wonder how it tastes.
Ann, it taste like ham yue ching chue yoke 😛
It’s amazing what TV shows can do to a certain food. I’ve never heard of salted fish bun before and suddenly everyone is talking about this! Makes me very curious too 🙂
