sleeping by herself

Ashley has been sleeping with us since she was born and she sleeps in her own bed next to ours 🙂  We feel that she is ready to move into her own room now which we have been using as a guest room.  The first night she was in her room,  she woke up at around 11 pm, sobbing.  My mom who was in the next room  heard her sobbing and went to check on her.  Ashley said she’s afraid of the witch on a broom *slaps forehead*.  In order not to let her miss any sleeping time, I asked her go back to our room to sleep.  The next night, she she cried again and said she heard sounds and the shadows look like bugs to her *slaps forehead*.

So, when I saw this ‘Monster Spray‘ idea from Pinterest, I decided to give it a try.  This ‘magical’ spray is to ward off those imaginary creatures lurking in the bedroom 🙂

I drew some funny looking creatures on the spray bottle.

I even stuck an alligator and a few bug stickers there 🙂  Daddy gave her a mini torchlight to switch it on if she sees any shadows on the wall.

We decorated her room a bit and together with the 2 things above, we were hoping that she’ll be fine sleeping by herself.   When I went to check on her at midnight, she was sobbing and her pillow was all wet with tears 🙁 She didn’t dare to come to our room  *sigh*  Now she’s back to sleeping in our room *stress*   Our next mission is to re-decorate her room to make it more fun.  We target to get her to move into her own room by the end of this year.  Ashley said she wants a room like the one in the Ikea catalogue *shake head*

Her dream room.  Well, we got the flower lamp and the pink rug already 😛  Next are some shelves and a single bed 🙂  We must find a way to dispose the Queen size bed first.

It is like a torture for the kids ya. Poor Ashley. I’ve tried to get my boy to sleep on his own and he refused. When he was asleep, I will carry him to his own bed and by midnight, he will squeeze into our bed again. haha

We are sleeping in the same room. I hope I can get him to sleep on his own after his 5th birthday in Sept. Finger crossed !

I love the spray idea. I will remember it when my kids complain about monsters and witches in their own room. Both my kids are still co-sleeping with us and I really don’t know when they’ll move out. I guess I’ll just wait till they are ready – which won’t be when they are 18 right?

What a smart idea…Monster Spray..hehe! Gwen is also sleeping with us. I think Ashley will change her mind once she gets her dream room. 🙂

I think they can’t help it… at this age, they imagine too much! Chloe started sleeping on her own at age 3. She had no problem at all until very recently when she started worrying about monsters too. Almost every day at about 5am, she will creep into our bed and sleep with us. Your monster spray is a good idea. Perhaps I need to arm her with one too 😉

What about turning on a small table lamp? Or those plug in tiny light? My girls have no problem sleeping on their own. I guess that’s because they have company. Good luck, hope she will soon overcome her phobia 🙂

there is a night light and my mom even bought a cute one in the shape of a house for her but it didn’t help 🙁

I remember my experience with my girl early this year. She told me about sounds and shadows too. Once, she even woke her brother (they shared a queen sized bed) and brought him to our room, saying the brother wanted mummy *speechless*

We are all squeezed in the master bedroom until now. Not sure when we executing the 2nd phase of ‘sleep alone’. Sigh….

I have let April and May sleep in their own bedroom, when they were 4 and 2. At first everything alright, until 1 year later. April kept coming back to my room mid of the night. I think I mentioned in my blog, not sure you still remember. I did all sort of things, including Monster Spray, torch and night light, praying in temple, taking ‘Ang Kong Hu’, caning her, and etc. Nothing work, at the end, I blamed the feng shui in her room, we get a feng shui si fu to come. I swifted their room to another one. They settled in their new room until today. Now, Saturday, April sleeps with me, and May sleeps with her dad. When her dad is out of town, I sleep with them in their room. It was a very terrible experience for both April and myself when she refused to sleep in their bedroom. Remember, I am a tiger mum, I still make it happen at the end.

hahahaha the monster spray idea is darn good! Enjoy their company while it lasts lah. A few years down the road, when Ashley is a teenager, you will be lamenting on this same blog why she NEVER comes into your room anymore!

I LOVE the monster spray idea! I’ve been trying to get Elyssa to sleep in her own room too. So far, Operation #1 and #2 failed. Will wait a while before Operation #3….which will most likely include monster spray 🙂

I like the monster spray idea…My son still sleep with me. But I gonna make him sleep in a separate bed first…slowly will let him sleep alone.

p/s: Hubby downloaded the 2012 IKEA magazine in Ipad. Yesterday night I keep brwosing it…

  15. aww this idea (monster spray) is excellent!!!

HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA….i love your idea, and it make me laugh so hard too, you draw that crabs? Look so cute!

My boys maybe they got company, once i decor their room, they just can’t wait to sleep there. Now, whenever i ask them to come over and sleep with me, they will said “hmmmmm…let me think first!!!” *sob sob sob*

First deco up Ashely room first, maybe she no more fear of “monster”. Good luck.

  18. claire says:

wow… your Ashley is so blessed… do show us her room after you have decorated it.. 🙂

  19. Alice Law says:

Ahhh… I totally understand, it’s hard for my girl to sleep in her own bedroom too(despite it was decorated as she desired).:(

  20. sasha says:

why not u all go and sleep in her room with her for few nights then when she is asleep, then u all can go back to your own room or get a baby monitor thinggy so u all can hear her from your room. The monster spray is damn good idea.

if i go sleep with her in her room, she may want be to be there with her every night 🙁 let me go dig out the baby monitor 🙂

  21. chinnee says:

u r really creative to come up with that kind of spray idea eh…

  22. syn says:

agree with sasha…you can sleep with her till she’s dead asleep and then leave the room. i did that with my girls initially now it’s ok except the little one will come over like 5am to ask me to go over and zzz with her. lol. takes time for them to outgrow the fear. i know it took me to my teenage years man! and i had my sister and brother in my room too. lol!

  23. jacss says:

aiseh…wah hahaha, the monster spray is really funny lar 😀
actually hor…no offence but u only have 1 princess leh so just enjoy her companion as long as you could! once she’s big & ready, you won’t be able to stop her from staying away from you. by then, you would probably be missing her smell already, hahaha
anyway, good try & wish you luck 😀
