Over the weekend, we made a road trip with our friends to Taiping. Of course who can resist stopping by Ipoh for some food eh? There is nothing better than some familiar sights of my hometown. We have been wanting to try the Xin Quan Fang curry mee which is also known as Chuan Fong or Ma Ta Liu (Police Station) curry mee. Previously this shop was located next to the police station along Hugh Low Street. It has since moved to across the street and slightly further away. I haven’t eaten there for over 30 years so hubs and I thought that we’ll make a trip there with our friends.
We left KL at 7.30 and arrived in Ipoh just slightly after 9. We were glad that there are still noodles left as this place is so famous that everything is sold out by 10am. There was already a queue in front of the small coffeeshop. We waited for about 15 mins before a table was available. It was a small table and pretty crowded for the 8 of us. Patience is required when eating here as you cannot beckon the staff over to place your order. They will come when it is your turn.
It didn’t take very long for our food to arrive. We ordered 6 bowls of plain noodles and a variety of meat to be separated from the noodles. The bowl of meat consist of roast pork, braised pork, chicken slices and prawns.
The total bill comes to RM72 (excluding drinks). Ain’t that a tad expensive? We have to pay when the food is served so I was actually looking forward to slurping up my noodle but after I heard the price, the food didn’t taste that good anymore *chuckle*. Oh well, I guess I won’t be patronizing this shop for another few years. There are other curry noodles in Ipoh which taste just as good if not better. They are Yat Yat Seng in Ipoh Garden, Yee Fatt Dry Curry Noodles @ Jalan Kampar (opposite MGS School) and Chuan Fatt in Jalan Pasir Puteh.
