If you are following the keto way of eating, you may have some cravings for sugar sometimes. I know I do but not cravings for sweet drinks. Instead, I crave for cookies and cakes. So I have to bake my own bread, cookies and cakes, using sweeteners that are required in the keto recipes. It is always good to avoid sweeteners during the first 4 months when one follows the keto way of life. They are known to stall the progress if over-used.
I like to use Erythritol which is a sugar substitute that looks and tastes like sugar, yet has almost no calories. Erythritol has been approved for use as a food additive in the United States and in many other countries. Other sugar alcohols you may have heard of include xylitol, maltitol, sorbitol and lactitol.
Erythritol is described as having a zero glycemic index, and it has not been found to affect blood sugar or insulin levels. Due to these reasons, Erythritol is highly popular with people on low-carb diets.
I have actually asked my in-laws to get them for me from Toronto when they came back recently because there I couldn’t find any for sale. *Update* I have finally found out where to buy Erythritol in Malaysia. We can now buy them from Joypremix.com. Don’t forget to check them out.
Many people use Splenda or Stevia but they do leave a nasty in the mouth. Another sweetener that is being used Xylitol. It is the sweetest of all natural sugar substitutes. It is increasingly gaining acceptance as an alternative sweetener. I found Xylitol for sale here. You may contact them for further details.
Note :
Please be aware that xylitol is poisonous to dogs, even in small amounts. Keep your xylitol stored safely away in containers that can’t be accessed by curious pups and be very careful not to spill any on the floor.
