When hub’s grandma was still around she loved sewing patchwork blankets from bits and pieces of leftover fabric. That was one of her past time and she sewed them for her children, grandchildren and relatives. After she has passed on in the mid 90’s, her possessions were kept in her eldest daughter’s house. The house has been sold and hub’s cousin was packing his belongings to move to a new home. His family found a box of patchwork blankets that were made by grandma. All these years, the blankets were untouched and they found at least 10 pieces of them.
So when they called to ask if we would like to have one for memories, we said yes without hesitation. Hub’s cousin brought the blanket over yesterday and it is beautiful. The patchwork blanket is reversible and guess what? Grandma sewed the date in which the blanket was made on one of the corners. The one that we got was made in 1979! The blanket looks so new.
So colourful.
The other side of the blanket. So much work, care and love went into making these blankets.
This is the date at the corner. Such a precious and beautiful keepsake.
I had a similar blanket made by my grandmother using lighter fabric. I love using that because when sleeping under the fan, the blanket is really cooling. I miss my blanket and can’t remember what happened to it.
