When we went back to Ipoh recently, we had lunch at one of the famous curry noodles shops there. We went to Yee Fat, which popularly known to the locals as “MGS Curry Mee” as this coffeeshop is just opposite the MGS (Methodist Girls’ School). This well-known coffeeshop is also featured in a few web directories.
What’s special is that the curry gravy is very thick, kinda like lemak curry but not too spicy. However, the portion is really small. Hubs ordered Extra Large Dry Curry Noodle while I ordered the normal size. I finished mine in less than 10 mouthful 🙁 Ashley had the dry “hor fun” with “char siew”. She could finish the whole plate of noodles because of the small portion. The wait was long too as this place is packed during lunch. Besides curry noodles, other delicacies available are lor mai kai and curry puff. Those 2 items were sold out that day and it was only 12pm. Here are some pics that I took.

i think i’ve only been to that shop once.
remember the more famous curry mee shop is the one opposite the police station.. and they have a branch, a small stall in the coffee shop at Ipoh Garden South, near Wai Leng’s old family house 😉
i didn’t know they have a branch near wai leng’s old house. still there? wanted to try chuan fong opp the police station but all sold out by 10am 🙁
Ashley finish one plate ? Good job ! 🙂
it’s a very small plate of hor fun
and i am reading this during lunch lagi! note to merryn: do not read barbara’s food blog during meal time!
Aisay, I didn’t go to this one, if only I’ve known. I went to the one near Kong Heng. That was good too or maybe becoz I havent had any real curry mee for a couple of years! 🙂
yeah….that one is also a good place for curry noodles. they use PDA to take the order right? 😀
the gravy looks thick. our curry noodle are really curry, very watery. 🙁
Must give it a try if we ever go to Ipoh.
ahhh…then you ought to visit ipoh for some good curries 😀
Maybe can try tiru the recipe at home since Ashley can finish the whole plate 🙂
she loves noodles and have no problem eating them…heheheh
Wow..making me drool already..haha. Ipoh really has abundance of good food lah. I’ve never been there.
In all my years in Ipoh and studying in MGS, I have never been there! Maybe coz I am not a fan of curry noddles…but this one sure needs a visit!
Same here. I studied in MGS but I cant remember going there. I must go to this coffee shop when I go back to Ipoh next month. The noodles look so delicious!
I misread it as ‘MSG’ curry mee. At first glance I thought who want to sell ‘MSG’ curry mee then oh its MGS…..ha ha ha!
My parents shop is just nearby. They knows the owner and his family quite well as they always dine there for breakfast and lunch.:)
We’ve been dying to eat all the yummy dim sum and etc in Ipoh but we always get confused between old town and new town!
new town is before the kinta river and old town is after the river 😉
Once I had to stop over driving my way way down to KL with an Argentinian and a Canadian – luckily I found this curry mee stall (the kind with soup?) and we all loved it 🙂
But I don’t think I’d be able to find it again…I can only remember driving past a petrol and going over a tiny bridge before arriving at this stuck-in-middle of shophouses outlet. A row of diagonal parking spots in front of it though…any clue???
hmm….a tiny bridge? i have no idea where is that 🙂 let me ask my mum or my dad 😀
wuah….no doubt this curry really looked very appetizing & drooling man :)P
