Encouraging A Child To Like Writing

Ashley doesn’t like writing and her handwriting is pretty atrocious 🙁  Each time when we ask her to do her writing, she’ll whine and even said she doesn’t like to do it. When it comes to reading, she’s fine and loves reading her books.  I asked her teacher about this matter and she said Ashley loves to do homework and writing in school.  Strange indeed.  I didn’t really pay much attention to her writing this whole year until the school holiday started. In order to keep her occupied, I got her some exercise books for her to do writing at home.  Oh my, I was shocked to see her handwriting.  There are also many alphabets in small letters which she does not know how to write 🙁

So everyday, I sit with her for 15 minutes to guide her and let her write the same alphabet a few times a week.  There are many *hair-pulling* incidents while coaching her 🙁 I praise her when she writes nicely and gives her lots of encouragement.   Her writings are getting better now with lots of practice.  I really must have the patience to sit down and guide her with her work.  Do your kids dislike writing?  Just how do you encourage him/her to like writing?

I myself is not a good person when come to writing back those days… I can remember my nanny has to put the cane next to me, as then for me to complete the writings.. I don’t mind anything other than that!

I think she is doing great. Reading is more important than writing…that was what I’ve been told.

Gwen doesn’t know how to write like Ashley..I mean without the dotted lines..hehe.

I think all kids like to be praised. Just give her alot of praises maybe this will motivate her more.

i too need advice on how to get avery to do her homework and expedite the process. since avery likes to be praised, i’ll encourage her to write nicely so that she would receive a ‘star’ from her teacher. it works most of the time 😀
