Pun Chun Restaurant, Bidor

Another backdated post.  On our trip back to KL after the Chinese New Year holidays, my husband suggested that we have our lunch in Bidor since most of the shops in Ipoh were packed.  Well, at first I thought (assumed) that he would bring me to eat the famous Duck Drumstick Noodles in Pun Chun Restaurant, Bidor.  I was wrong.  He brought us to a little air-conditioned cafe called Coconut Island (or something like this) for Chinese/Thai food.  He ate there before with his friends and they all liked the food.  However, I find that the food was quite bland.  Really didn’t enjoy it at all.  I asked hubs why he didn’t take us to Pun Chun since I haven’t been there before and he thought I wouldn’t like it as it’s packed 🙁

Anyway, we did go there after our lunch.  Yes, the place was indeed packed.  However, the noodles do look delicious.   At one corner, I saw many people queuing to buy some food.  When I took a peek, I saw that they were actually lining up to buy some Wu Kok (Taro Dumpling).   I decided to buy some to try.  Boy, the wait was long because there is only one person manning the stall and it was an elderly man.  He is probably the owner or one of his relatives.  I heard that the Pun Chun Restaurant was established in the 1940’s and this place looks more like a old coffeeshop.  Maybe they have some kind of Amish fireplaces back then.

I bought 4 pieces.  They are not too bad but so fattening

What’s  a trip to Bidor without buying some guavas?  I was tricked actually.  I asked the stall owner located outside Pun Chun restaurant to choose a few for me and he gave me some not-so-good ones 🙁  I’m planning a trip there soon to eat the famous Duck Drumstick Noodles 😉

I won’t suggest you to go Pun Chun when it’s holiday / peak season. My brother was there during the 3rd day of CNY, and he waited 2 hours for his ‘duck drumstick noodle’ and he was complaining the noodle sucks!

The other one that we usually go in Bidor is just opposite the bus station, and it’s so much better and nice.. 😀
