Time Out Method

I read something quite interesting yesterday.  It is about the popular Time Out method of child disciplining.  I am sure many of us have tried this method when unacceptable behaviour occurs.  Misbehave children are told to sit at a corner or go to their room to calm down and think about what they did.  According to what I read, the Time Out is actually meant to give parents time to calm down and re-organize our feelings rather than as a punishment for our kids.   This is because the children would not learn anything from this.  To them, they would just be thinking “when mummy is going to let me out”.  Interesting eh?

Barb, I learned this method long ago, but never implemented it to my kids at all. Never even once. I also don’t know why. But I am fierce mom, will purnish them with cane, writing, no TV, no computer time, no story telling and etc.

  2. i’ve never tried coz i think it’ll not work. Amber will not sit quietly in a corner. can you imagine she sitting on a corner alone ??no no no.. cannot la.. if she does, then i must buy lottery jor.

Now I get to know the actual reason of Time Out…. it’s time for parent to cool down.

Noted! Since Time Out won’t benefit the children, it’s useless to ask them to sit at the corner. Let me sit at that corner instead. At least I won’t be scolding and canning them :O

I will get into another fight with my son getting him to time out. Make me loose my temper even more.

So time out doesnt work for me and my son…no matter what the purpose of it. hahahaha….

I have never try this before but my favourite method when my kids misbehaved is still the perennial method – kneel in front of the altar and pull the ears lightly with the hands. Am I too harsh or too old fashioned? But it worked each time – they ‘feared’ the datuk of the house (di chu kung)! hehehe…

Couldn’t agree more! Last time when I ‘quarantined’ my girl for her misbehaved, this is what she said when I released her from the room, ” Wonder why you keep me in this room, it’s dark and cold with a lot of mosquitoes, see the bite marks?!” while showing me her arms! Slapped fore head kuat kuat for endless time!=_=
