When Ashley was going in and out of the hospital recently, she spent her time munching on koko crunch (provided by the hospital) and watching tv. Her favourite is the Disney Channel. Guess which show kept playing over and over again?
Yup…the High School Musical.
Ashley became hooked and since she watched this show so many times, I even dreamt about it one night 😛 Then she asked for a HSM school bag for next year and we got one for her during Parkson’s clearance sales – only rm30 🙂
My dilemma started yesterday.
I didn’t really know how much she loves HSM until she showed me this…..
a love letter to……..
Troy (the lead actor aka Zac Efron). She even put it in an envelope and asked me to send it out to him. I was shocked! Writing a love letter? Where did she learn that from? She kept telling me that she likes him, he is her friend, etc. Then she asked me to go to the US with her to find Troy. Where did she learn all these from? Did I tell you that she’s only 5? *pulls hair* I thought I would deal with problems like friendships in school, homework, eczema, what clothes to wear, etc….but definitely NOT this. I don’t find this cute at all. I am worried and I really don’t know what to do. I should have stopped her from watching such dramas 🙁

I’m speechless. HSM has such a big influence on a 5 year old girl..wow. Yeah..I’m wondering where Ashley learn how to write love letter too..hehe.
I also don’t anticipate such “problems” at this age… at least not until 10 years later haha. Ashley is too matured for her age! She doesn’t watch Playhouse Disney anymore?
she does watch Playhouse Disney and her fav is Pororo the Little Penguin. She switches between Playhouse Disney and Disney Channel 🙁

yes there’s a love scene / a kissing scene between the lead actor/actress but i didn’t know a 5 year old knows what that is all about 🙁 she loves watching HSM because it’s full of singing / dancing scenes.
Ashley is mature for her age leh.. but then this Zac Efron, he is one good looking man…I dont blame Ashley.. she has great taste.. 🙂

Hahaha! At such young age she’s already writing letter to her idol. No wonder you are in dilemma. I have yet to experience this with Avery – she has idols but not until the extend of writing love letter.

Kids grow up too fast these days. HSM is about teens, that’s a very different age group. When my kids were younger, certain movies/series were off-limits to them, and for certain other movies, had no choice but to enforce parental guidance. Hopefully she will forget Zac soon, he’s much too old for her LOL.
i hope so too. i’ll be keeping a close eye on what she watches from now onwards 🙂
Barb, I think you no need to worry. I can be the role model of idoling celebrity at young age. I was like that when I was as young as Ashley. I admired the young and handsome looking actors or singers. I tell ya! I was only into a relationship at age of 24. I had no puppy love before age 24, all because I admired Leon Lai, and I benchmarked Leon Lai to all other guys that I knew. Of course all failed in term of height, appearance and charm looking, if to compare to Leon Lai. Only at age of 24, i lower down my standard a bit because I was a bit desparate already. lol!

Oh dear …. I totally didn’t anticipated that for kids their age at all! I think it’s ok but just way too ‘early’ for a mom’s point of view. I can still remember that at the age of 5, I am still a blur blur little girl who doesn’t know what love is beside “I don’t want to friend you” stuff, hahahaha. Kids nowadays are really canggih eh and I guess that’s a norm for kids nowadays so I better prepared myself for all these too 🙂
