Have you done all the shopping for the Chinese New Year celebration? I still have a few things on my list like shopping for cookies, new clothes for hubs, weight loss supplements as I know I would be eating nonstop during the festive season and perhaps a pair of new jeans for myself. For this year, I have decided to d-i-y the CNY decoration. This is just one of the things I did – A paper lantern.
Got some angpows from last year and cut them up into strips
Gather about 7 strips together and place a thumbtack on each end. Then twist it out slowly to begin to unfold the lantern.
Voila…A paper lantern ornament. Errr…..for this one I actually used the Ikea CNY flyer 🙂 If you are keen to try making some of these paper lanterns, it would be better to find thicker angpow paper. Old CNY cards are great too.
Stay tuned if you would like to know where I hang these lanterns 😉
Barb: very nice lantern.. thanks for the idea…
I love the way u make the lantern ornament, it’s simple and nice! BTW, I also preparing and decorating a few basket for oranges this coming CNY!
Can hang a small light bulb inside it! LOL!
Ohh, I think it would be great with some ‘mustache’ hanging down!^-^
Sigh….I did some last year but this year feel a bit lazy. Also perhaps the CNY festivity has not really hit me yet! 🙂 Will get going soon.
Thanks for the motivation. I will try to DIY some CNY decoration this weekend.
