Potato Patties

Last Friday, I decided to make some potato patties after seeing Merryn‘s πŸ˜€

First I steamed the potatoes till they are soft.

Then in another bowl, I mixed the marinated chicken meat and onions together. Didn’t have any carrots that day.Β  Bummer.

After I mashed the potatoes, I mixed them together with the meat and onions.Β Β  Added a bit of cornflour.Β  Kneaded the mixture into ball size and dipped the patties into the beaten egg.Β Β  Somehow, I don’t know why mine doesn’t look like balls like what Merryn did.Β  Mine came out looking all distorted. Β  Below are a few of the good looking ones….hahahahaha.

Can anyone tell me how to make these patties into ball size?Β Β  Despite their odd looking shape, Ashley loves them. She polished off most of the potato patties.Β  Thank God.Β  If not, I would have to finish them and then look for some Apidexin. Since Ashley loves them, I’ll be making more in the future.

  1. Hey! This sounds quite easy to make. I am going to try it too. May be tomorrow? Just try my luck as my girl don’t like any form of potatoes, except potato chips. πŸ™

  2. Paik Ling says:

The kids don’t care how it looks like lah so don’t worry πŸ™‚ Perhaps if you have difficulty in shaping them, you could coat them with some bread crumbs after the egg so that the balls hold their shape. Plus it gives it a crunch too πŸ™‚

  3. Annie Q says:

this sound quite easy, i also wan to try to do this for my boys, hope they will like it. πŸ™‚

Don’t look good, it’s ok for the first time, most important is Ashley love it. πŸ™‚

  4. Marilyn says:

Yeah..I make once prawn potato patties also tak jadi as my batter too watery…if you don’t have bread crumbs as Paik Ling said you can use bread by smashing to small pieces and combine with the batter…

  5. Cynthia says:

My 2 cents.. I normally put in the egg and mix together with the meat, so its moist before shaping it.. then I will roll it on some flour and put in the oil.. but I thought petties are flat? no ah? :p

Anyway, Ashley don’t really mind la.. coz it’s all mummy’s TLC ma.. πŸ˜‰

  6. rachel says:

google for koroke… japanese. same stuff..
the secret is, once u make it to a ball shape, dip to flour first, then dip to egg, then dip to bread crumbs… then ur shape will last.

  7. Merryn says:

oit oit.. u wanna know what ME do? i toss them while shaping them. alamak, how to describe ah? hold them in ur hands while shapping, then toss in the air a bit, u know, like throw throw then catch catch, it helps to shape it! LOL…. the carrot i sendiri tambah, not suppose to be in the original recipe.. πŸ˜€

  8. mummy gwen says:

Good try. It looks OK. As long as Ashley likes them..any shape will be fine. πŸ™‚ Haha..Merryn’s explanation is funny la..oh must toss toss like making roti canai lah..hehe.

  9. Irene says:

    looks reaaaaaaaaally sedap! oooooh!

  10. health freak says:

This is called Bergedil and is a popular Malay delicacy. I used to make them for my gals. I put minced beef and beat in 2 whole eggs into the pattie. They turned out pretty well. The recipe is in my blogspot blog and I think I posted it in 2007.

  11. jazzmint says:

  13. Ann says:

I think you have alot of comments on how to make it ‘balls’! But whatever shape….as long as it is tasty, I am sure the kids love it! Saw a version of it being baked in this site : http://mykitch3n.blogspot.com/

So surprised seems today alot of posts on meatballs! πŸ™‚ All mummies think alike?

  14. Charming says:

Easy, simple recipe. You could also try to roll them in plain flour before dipping in egg and then frying them.

  15. nonsense says:

try adding a little bit of cornflour. that should help make it a bit more starchy and easier to hold the shape.

  16. Mommy To Chumsy says:

Hey everyone. Thanks for your tips. Will try it out again soon πŸ˜€

  17. huisia says:

looks quite yummy lar, i wanna try too!

  18. nadia says:

I love pergedil/bergedil! Try using a spoon when nak drop it in the oil or just like how Merryn does it. That’s how my mom and I do with our cucurs. πŸ™‚

  19. Blur Mama says:

i whack in fish also sometimes…one-plate-meal kind of thing heheh…me laze mar πŸ˜€

  20. good idea to whack up those potatoes eh ? I think I’ll try with minced beef. If mine turns out ok, I’ll post it. If you don’t hear from me, then it’s a failure… hahahaha

  21. jacss says:
