I just received my blood test result yesterday and discovered that I have thyroid. The doctor prescribed me some medicines and she also said I would be very weak for the first 2 weeks after I start the medication. Joy! She also advised me to avoid crowds and I should wear a mask if I need to go to a crowded place. joy joy! Also, she said it’s best that I avoid the mall. No shopping mall for a few weeks!! Joy Joy Joy!
Everything will be fine, and if these meds don’t react well with your body, try going to a chinese herbalist..
Take care Barb!
Thyroid getting common nowadays..imbalance of hormones? anyway, medication can cure.. not to worry so much.. good news is, u eat a lot, u wont grow fat … i hv a fren who did a jab in KL hospital..iodine something, one jab and she is cured… heard it is a new medicine..

Can I ask what made you take the blood test?
My family has a history of tyroid and I was suspected to have it when I was younger….sometimes I also don’t know what the symptoms are….
Joy to not go out shopping? 🙂 Funny girl!
I got very bad symptoms. Initially I felt like I have acid reflux. There is a feeling like a lump stuck in my throat, chest discomfort and heart palpitations. These symptoms went on for over a week before I decided to see a GP. She suspected that it could be thyroid because my hand were also trembling at times. My mom has thyroid and my doctor said it is genetic 🙁 Do you experience these symptoms?
Joy joy joy… means you have less chance to mingle with possibly-infected-with-H1N1-people. Do look at the bright side :-D.
Take good care ya…

Rest more and take care
Get well soon. Take care, ya. 🙂
Oh, take good care of yourself. Maybe you can try natural supplements? My MIL also has thyroid, and yes, she had heart palpitations after taking the med. btw, there’s this doc at DSH who is good with thyroid problems

Take care and hope the med helps. Get well soon.
If you want to try taking the kelp tabs I told you about, you can get them from the organic shop near Tmn Desa Medical Centre. My mum has been taking it for a few years and now doesn’t need her tyroid meds anymore. Also eat food high in iodin – seaweed, kelp, abalone, etc.

Hi Barb – Seems like you have hyperthyroid, which I had for yeas before Lucas appeared. Guess you’re on carbimazole and something else (I forget) for the palpitations?
Here’s what I did:
1.NO cabbage (English or Chinese LOL), iodine-rich foods (seaweed, kelp, shellfish e.g. kerang, clams etc) or beef burgers unless home-made(the theory is that the cow’s giant thyroid is also processed together thus overload of thyroxine).
2. Take up gentle yoga e.g. hatha yoga which emphasizes deep breathing and relaxation. As you have palpitations, take things slowly coz I remember panting like crazy just climbing up a flight of stairs. Really got to watch yourself k?
The first year’s the key because if the meds work, then it never comes back and you can try to achieve that 🙂
It came back for me, which is why Hubby asked me to give up teaching coz we somehow found it pretty common among teachers (maybe due to the stress and all that talking).
I was also ‘hooked’ onto a Dr. Quack for years until I met 2 handsome doctors who got me back to normal (only 1 oral dose of radioiodine therapy) and of course, having our dear, dear Lucas.
Make sure you see an endochrinologist for the thyroid who will send you to the cardiologist for the ECGs k?
Be wary of folks who go, “You have thyroid problem? You should try this, this, this…” In most cases, it’s a “magic elixir” that’s supposed to cure everything on earth LOL
Cheer up, k?
