the most expensive prawn noodle ever

As Ashley has just recovered, we are still trying to avoid the shopping malls or anywhere crowded.  We hardly go out to eat either but it is really boring to stay at home for 2 weeks.  So, on Sunday, we decided to head over to Centerpoint, Bandar Utama to try out the famous prawn noodle at Champs.  At least Centrepoint is not crowded 😉

I didn’t bring my camera along so I googled and got a photo of the Champs Prawn Mee from Foodpoi.com.

What’s so special about this dish? Oh, before I forget, it cost RM20.90  per bowl.  Yes, freaking expensive if you ask me.  It has pork ribs, pork slices, small prawns and 2 big prawns (not succulent at all). It also has lots of chu yau char (fried pork fats) Yikes!  My verdict?  Nothing special about this prawn noodle except for the size of the bowl.  I don’t think I would go all the way there just to eat the prawn noodle now.  Plus…RM20 per bowl is a tad expensive (5 x the cost of a regular prawn noodle).  I rather spend the money on the best wrinkle treatments.  So, have you tried it before?

I’m still at office and now I’m extremely hungry looking at your bowl of prawn mee! Rm20+ is a bit expensive, but if it’s really good, I will pay for it. LOL! But since u said nothing special, then forget it lo.

  2. Clairity says:

Agree, freakin’ expensive. But then again, there’s lots more places where the food is lousy and expensive, and people still make a mad rush for it just because everyone else says it’s good *shrugs*.

  3. Blur Mama says:

Well, I thought I’d tried the most expensive un-tasty curry mee in Segambut, cost about RM10++ in a stall (yes, you read me – STALL inside an old kopitiam with old fans and dirty floor). But man, your prawn mee is even more expensive compares to my curry mee. It’s once and for all….

ahh..I think I’ve tried that curry noodle before 🙂 I don’t mind paying RM12 for a bowl of noodle…it’s the normal price when you eat in the shops at the mall 😀 however, rm20 is a bit too much AND there is nothing special abt this noodle except for pork ribs 🙁

  13. dona says:

hahahhaha…i have actually tried it before!!!

yes, i am a muslim..and no, it was not on purpose. i was still young (18) and was the ‘tiang lampu’ on my friend’s first date. we didn’t know that it had pork in it.

i didn’t eat much, as it tasted funny..cloyingly sweet. after we went back and told my friends only did we know that it wasn’t halal!

Omigosh! Sorry to hear this. So what happened after you found out?

    🙂

Heard a lot about this place many years ago, maybe it was good then and not now. Anyway, good or bad, just treat it as an experience lor…

Barb, I ate the “sang har mee” and Ulu Yam when I came back from Genting, it was RM45, I found it expensive too and “heart pain”, but there were 4 big fresh prawns la! From the pic you posted, the noodle looked yummy also.

  17. sasha says:

  20. Health Freak says:

Yes, Champs’ prawn mee is indeed very delish. Their local delights are all not too bad.

  21. Rina says:

The dish looks good , though!! But I think RM20 for a bowl of noodles is too expensive. Having said that, most places like that charge that price for local food. Just telling my hubby yesterday, that RM50 nowadays does not get you anywhere

  22. Annie Q says:

EH! I was there on Sunday night lei, how come didn’t bump into you? Yes, Champ’s are famous for their prawn mee, but i’m not a prawn mee lover, so usually i opt for the fried keow teow. Like Health Freak mummy said, some of their local delight are good.

  23. etceteramommy says:

Wah.. so ex! I thought the prawn noodle at Little Penang was not bad, at a fraction of the price. This post reminds me of the most expensive Chicken rice I had in my lifetime.. S$22 per plate!!
