I’m On A 30-Day Diet

And so far, I have lost 15 days……hahahahahahah

On a more serious note…..

Remember my wish for a Reebok Trainer last Christmas?Β  Well Santa sent one to meΒ  and since then, I have been exercising on it every day, if not 5 times a week.Β  I started with 3km a day and now I hit between 8k to 10 km a day, depending on my mood πŸ˜€Β  It does feel good to exercise.Β  However, I don’t see my weight going downΒ  *sad*.Β  I don’t eat a lot or snack in between meals thus this is puzzling.Β  Anyway,Β  a few days ago Elaine buzzed me and we chatted for a while. She told me that she was going to make a salad for dinner because it’s fuss-free.Β Β  It then dawned on me that perhaps I should have salad every night for dinner.Β  Maybe, just maybe, my weight will go down if I cut back on my food intake while continuing with the exercise?Β  I started having this 2 nights ago…

SAM_1020

Fresh garden salad from Tesco

SAM_1022

My own dressing – a lil bit of olive oil, some lemon juice and a dash of sea salt.Β  It is delish!

SAM_1023

My dinner.Β  I added some ham into the salad.Β  I can also have this with an egg, tuna or chicken meat.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my weight will go down.Β  Going to try this for a month and see how.Β  Wish me luck!

WOW, you can run 8-10km a day? That’s a lot! Do you jog round your neighborhood in the morning? I find that by having a light meal for dinner, my weight will go down faster πŸ™‚ Keep up the good work Barb ;P

no lah Shireen. I cycle on my exercise bike. i don’t have time to jog in the morning plus too many cars and dogs around :P. thanks…hopefully my weight will go down soon πŸ™‚

They say, the more you want something, the harder to achieve… So why not you take it as a normal daily routine but not keep on thinking about the results?

Wei, ham is high in fat lah!!!!!! Better to have the salad with grilled chicken breast. I have been having Special K cereal as dinner for the last 3 weeks. Lost 3 kgs so far. No need to prepare. Just open the cereal box, pour cereal into bowl and pour some skim milk. Voila!

cereal and skim milk for dinner? you are so discipline! i didn’t have any meat in the fridge ..only ham yesterday. ok…will get some grilled chicken /tuna πŸ˜€

I’m gonna follow Paik Ling’s method – eat cereal for dinner…. I exercise weekly, but it seems that my weight doesn’t go down, instead it goes up faster. I think my brain is telling me, I can afford to eat because I exercise, darn! Now I’m getting wider.

    Let’s gambatte together, Barb.

hey, you are so slim. still wanna diet?

  13. sheohyan says:

Don’t give up, Barb. Good effort that you have invested so far. I am sure with these new diet (salad) you will see a drop in your weight. I am pretty sure. Some time the weight is stagnant, but you have actually looked thinner. You should use a measurement tape instead.

thank you Sheoh Yan πŸ™‚ i dare not measure myself yet. maybe after 30 days πŸ˜‰

  14. marilyn says:

    Hi Barb,

In fact 3 things to stay away if you wanna makes your diet more successful, no sugar, no rice, & no bread….

sugar = soft drink, any drink that mix with sugar also no no eg, air sirap, barley, teh o ais limau lar & etc, you may drink it but without sugar…as sugar the more u take the more insulin which produce by pancreas got work hard to regulates the glucose level…

Keep it up and all the way Barb!…

Thanks Marilyn. I don’t like sugary drinks actually but of course I cannot resist my ice blend frappucino πŸ™‚ i haven’t eaten rice after my confinement but i have a weakness for bread and pastries πŸ™

hey, when are you going to update your blog?

  15. Alesia says:

    Hey Barb,

Good luck! And honestly try not to look at the weighing machine, see if you’ve lost inches instead. Like your friend said, maybe you are building muscles. And eat more grains than carbs.

Your santa very nice lor! You must be a very good girl this year πŸ˜‰

thanks Alesia. i dare not step onto the weighing machine for the past one year and i won’t do it. i rather try on my clothes to see if they are loose πŸ˜‰ oh yes…santa claus was pretty kind πŸ˜‰

  16. Mummy Gwen says:

You have such determination…that’s good. Wishing you good luck, Barb.

    thank you very much πŸ˜€

  17. Shirley Loo says:

wow..looks yummy leh..simple and freshening meal. I like salad with sum sprinkle of salt and olive oil too! natural enuf πŸ˜‰ gambateh oh, my hubby use to eat big bowl of salad after gym too πŸ˜‰

no wonder your hubby is so fit πŸ˜‰

  18. ChloeMummy says:

This healthy salad is a good start. Really no need to wash/rinse before eating? I have been on this fresh vege & fruit diet (at least for lunch) for about 3 years now and I can feel the difference (as in healthier) and of course I shed all the unwanted kilos πŸ™‚ You really have to be disciplined and if possible, target a longer term rather than just 30 days. All the best, Barb. You can do it! πŸ™‚

Thanks Hweili πŸ™‚ err…i didn’t rinse and wash at all…hahahahahahah

  19. vivianZ says:

wow…. i wish i could keep my exercise routine and on s strict but gave up after few days… sigh…

  20. lena says:

ooi, dont tell me you will going to have salads every night for the next 15 days? ok next trip when you’re back, i’m going to tempt you with laksa, nasi lemak , satay and desserts!hehe!

hey, if you were to cook them for me, i won’t mind breaking my diet plan…kekekekeke

  21. Alice Law says:

Keep on exercising and continue your healthy meals, I reckon it’s hard to get rid of the initial stubborn fat(especially at the waist line)! You will see the result soon!^-^

  22. Jas says:

hello barb I’ve been a silent reader of your blog for quite sometimes but never had the gut to say anything before hehe but since I’m also on the journey to lose weight thought It’d be interesting to share some of the stuff I learn over the years.

you have such an admirable determination. Keep up with the exercising. Exercise is good but it works better with a proper diet. Also if you have the time try going on a brisk walk. Brisk walk helps tremendously. As of diet try opting on a low carb and low sugar diet. What Marilyn says abt carbs and sugar is indeed true. Glucose is used for energy source and if you do not use up all the glucose, it will be stored and eventually transformed into fat πŸ™

Since you mention you’re a big fan of pastries, bread and fraps(just like me hehe) try looking for a healthy option. Go for low carb bread. I know low carb bread taste like wood but they’re very good for weight loss and very filling. Maybe you can make your own fraps by substituting sugar with stevia or sugar-free syrup(which tasted better than stevia), milk with unsweetened soy milk or low fat milk/skim milk and add a tiny dollop of whip cream(or if you have strong will powers, then forget whip cream hehe) Pastries just have 1 type of pastries a week but try and be selective and watch the portion πŸ™‚ Another way to do it is to stick to your diet routine and spoil yourself every once in a while. Say 2-3 times a month?Do it in the day time as our metabolic rate are faster during the day. It’s ok to break the cycle every now and then to avoid rebound.

Lastly do not get stress if you don’t lose weight on time. It’s very normal. Some people take time to lose. Sometimes our body is weird and work on a different pace. My GP used to tell me that the more I stress, the less likely I’ll lose weight. Something to do with the brain but that’s for another story lah hehe.

    good luck πŸ™‚

Hey Jas, thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your kind comment. Appreciate it πŸ™‚ I will take note of your advice πŸ™‚ I even tried the Atkins Diet and lost a lot of weight but somehow the weight found me again once I stop dieting πŸ™ So how is your weight loss journey now?

  23. Macy says:

Good luck with the diet Barb! Most important is to eat healthy, and in time, the weight will go down. I know you can do it! πŸ™‚

    thank you Macy πŸ™‚

  24. Ann says:

Hey….all the best with your diet plans. Wow….impressive 8-10 km run. Make sure you keep at it ya. And soon all the muscle tone will be helping you loose the weight. Good for your heart in the long run too anyway.

    thanks Ann.

  25. Jas says:

    hey Barb,
It’s going very well for me. Thanks for asking πŸ˜€ I have sticked to the same routine for a year and a half now. It’s the only thing that works for me at the moment without having to sacrifice a large amount of money and still be able to eat the things I like every now and then LOL. The only time I encountered weight gain is during the seasonal holiday. You know la with holiday food heheh. I try to workout at least 4-5 days a week for one hour. I was quite surprise you were able to hit 8-10km. I envy your strong wills and determination πŸ™‚ I wish I had that kind of dedication when I first started. When I first started to exercise I can only do a 15 mins workout lol(very pathetic I know LOL) then gradually increasing to 30 mins to an hour. I stick to the one hour routine ever since.

I forgot to mention earlier that as you lose weight and get smaller, you will find it difficult to lose weight after that but try not to stress about it. It’s totally normal. There’s even going to be times when you won’t be losing much or not losing anything at all even after a month of strenuous workout/diet but fret not because you will see some changes on the next following month πŸ™‚ some could be linked to water retention else it’s just how the body works I guess. It can be frustrating sometimes but what to do the body is just weird that way. Other factors could be like what someone here had said earlier, you could be building muscles or losing inches first but not weight. Just don’t worry about the numbers on the scale, the numbers will eventually go down. Just give it time and continue doing what you’re doing πŸ™‚

Like you I have tried Atkins as well…Atkins, Dukan, H.L, numerous diet pills, you name it nothing seems to work πŸ™ If they do work, its only for a very short period. Once I am off them I will definitely gain back all the weight I have shed if not more πŸ™ – I stopped taking diet pills after being told by my GP that they can be hazardous to liver and kidney probably because of the toxin content.

Atkin is a good diet but I get bored of it eventually and go back to my bad eating habits and gain more weight. Worst time of my life πŸ™ So glad that’s all in the past now. These days what I do is while trying to watch my carb and calorie intake I try to find the best substitute for my favourite meal or dessert. I do reward myself with treats at least once a week though. If I dine out I’ll be sure to do portion control and try to watch what I eat. Portion control can be difficult at first for me since I like food too much but it’s doable. You just need to discipline yourself. If I eat something extra I will weigh myself the next day to see what’s the damage and add a few more minutes to my workout.

You’re off to a good start Barb, just keep it up! πŸ™‚ Good Luck and happy vacationing πŸ˜€

hey Jas, great to hear that things are going well for you. just got back from the short holiday and i can’t wait to go back to my salad dinner. feel really guilty after having a heavy dinner on the first night πŸ™‚ i really like Atkins too and it worked for me. however, i got kinda sick of just having proteins…you know what i mean? i love my carbs too much πŸ˜› plus, atkin’s protein products are not available here and maybe even if they are, they would probably cost a bomb πŸ™ i have been on this weight loss journey many many times….i would lose a lot of weight, gain them back and lose again πŸ™ hopefully i can be as determined as you and stay on track πŸ˜‰ have a good week, Jas πŸ™‚
