Thai BBQ / Thai Street Food @ Old Klang Road

We discovered a new eatery along Old Klang Road and decided to give it a try on New Year’s Eve.   The place is called BBQ Thai/Thai Street Food.   It is quite difficult trying to spot this place along Old Klang Road during the day because there isn’t a big signage at the front.  At night when the lights are switched on, you can see this cube signage in purple.  When coming from Mid Valley, this restaurant is on your left, right after Hyundai Showroom and Coco Steamboat.  The entrance is rather small so be careful to slow down once you pass Coco Steamboat.

Here are some photos of the restaurant

The outdoor seating area as well as the airconditioned rooms in wooden huts.  Very shabby chic.

We sat in this room on our second visit.

I love the colanders they used as lampshades.  Very creative.

Thai BBQ serves Thai food obviously and we have tried its Otak Otak, Tom Yum Gong, BBQ Squid, etc.   Below are pics of the food we tried on our first visit.

Pandan chicken, Tom Yum Gong, Minced Pork Salad

BBQ Platter

The food is delicious but their prices are not cheap.  Our bill for the above came to RM150 that night and we didn’t order any special drinks, only mineral water.  On the second visit with our friends, the bill came to RM660.  One thing which I do not like is that they charge sales tax (6%) and I thought new establishment shouldn’t do that unless they have an annual sales turnover exceeding RM3 million?  Please correct me if I am wrong 🙂  Service tax is another 10% and during our second visit, the services were not very good.  They forgot our orders a few times.  Maybe it is because the whole place was packed that night and they do not have enough staff.  Anyway, our friends think it is a good place to hang out because beer cost RM16 per bottle 🙂

Yummy tom yam gung! The place is nice, with old school feel. But the price is kinda pricy, I gotta agree 😀

p/s: I usually avoid places with sales tax if possible.

did have dinner here with mrs and two kids. The food wasn’t really outstanding and for its price, as the rest have already stated, its a bit on the pricey side. However, i do like the feel of the place …. cosy.

Thanks for leaving your comment 🙂 Yes I would go again only for the environment, not so much for the food. Must really know what to order next round 🙂

I went to this place yesterday and all I can say is I will never go back. If you use one of those rooms with air-cond, you will need to spend RM 300 and above if not, you’re not allowed to use it, how ridiculous is this. Not to worry, the staff will keep on reminding you if your bill doesn’t reach RM300 and this really annoys me. The food is pricey and portions are very small. The staffs can’t even remember some of our orders and they are not friendly at all !

I accidently left my baby’s spoon and bowl, (btw, it’s an expensive one which you can never find it here). I only realized it when I got back home which was only after 20 minutes. I told the staff what happen and to look for it. This lady by the name of Jo-Ann said she will call me back but yeah, she can’t seem to be bothered. I called them again today asking what happen to my stuff and all they can say is, “we are not responsible for any loss items” and “my workers might have thrown it away since they are foreigners”.

That’s all I get from the manager who doesn’t care as well. I will not recommend anyone to this place, ever !!

Sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience. Boy, I would be mad too if I were you. We sat in one of their aircond rooms during the 2nd visit but they didn’t remind us that the bill has to reach rm300. Maybe it’s a new ruling? Actually, when placing our orders, I remember their staff, a Chinese lady about mid-50s, wasn’t very pleased that we ordered their pandan leave drinks which is the cheapest on the menu. She gave me a ‘are-you-kidding-me’ look. Anyway, our bill that night came to about rm600+. We haven’t been back since. They are not very professional when it comes to dealing with customers.
