When I came across this easy way to trap mosquitoes on Facebook, I thought I’ll give it a try.
All you need is a plastic bottle, warm water, brown sugar and yeast.
Here’s my bottle.
a packet of yeast
Cut the bottle and filled it with warm water and brown sugar. Then I added the yeast in.
Wrapped the bottle with newspaper.
This is how it looks like from the top. I then left the bottle in a cool dark place beside the shoe rack outside my home. This place is full of mozzies.
Guess what? After a few days, only one ant went into the trap. A few days later, a small lizard was floating in the water. I didn’t take any photos because it was kinda gross. Mosquitoes? Not even one. I guess this method doesn’t work with the mozzies in Malaysia? Anyone wants to try this?
Oh cannot work ar? I was thinking to try cause my room has mozzies too….
No Barb, I do not want to try, as I can’t stand seeing lizard inside, I am very scared of lizard one.
But it catches lizards? For that reason only I would give it a try. 🙂
i think that lizard was just curious and it was a baby lizard. i doubt the big ones would go in….eeeekkkkk
The mozzies aren’t attracted to the eco friendly method?
Initially I wanted to try it out…. no mozzie but lizards? It’s even better!! Cool~
Note: I hate lizards.
Yaya..I also saw this at FB and wanted to try it out. Hmmm…now I’m having second thought.
alah, i thought it worked. Maybe the spot is not dark enough?
thanks for sharing; so no choice but to stick to mosquito repellant, I think!
There is a mixed review that lemon juice helps. I’m still sticking to my mosquito repellent now. 🙂
yikes! Thanks for sharing. We still get the kick out of zapping the mozzies with the bat!
I had goosebumps reading about the lizard. I have lizard phobia. There are not mozzies in my house but every now and then, I see newly hatched tiny roaches lurking around and I’m looking for something to permanently get rid of them!
I’m having same prob as Mummy Chloe. My house don’t have mozzies only occasionally got 1 or 2 sesat one.
hehehehhehe….mozzie in Malaysia are too smart. 😛
I ve tried it too…but it doesn’t work for me either.
Mind the water temperature initially. It might be too hot or not hot enough for the yeast to ferment.
