Recently when we were back in Ipoh for Chinese New Year, my niece told me about the beautiful wall murals in New Town. They were painted at the end of January. She told me that the murals are on the walls right behind the famous bird shop in Jalan Sultan Idris Shah. We went to check it out and snapped some photos. They are so colourful and beautiful.
According to a website I found on google, these paintings are the work of an art teacher, Eric Lai who was inspired by the works of Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic. Mr. Zacharevic has done several famous murals on the back wall of 3 shops in the George Town Unesco World Heritage site, Penang. Mr. Eric Lai was invited by an optical shop owner to paint the back wall of his shop after seeing the murals in Penang. He sponsored the art materials and Eric, together with his students started to transform the backlane with paintings of lion dance, kuda kepang and children playing Hide-and-Seek. I love them. I hope this talented art teacher and his students will continue to create more murals around Ipoh.
The lion dance
A collage of the photos we took that day. The missy was not a very keen model that day 😛
My favourite wall mural
