During the Merdeka holiday, hubs and I went back to Ipoh for a one-night stay. I wanted to visit my ailing uncle so we made a last minute trip home. Missy did not follow us as she wanted to do revision of her UPSR exam.
Whenever we are back, we try to do as many things as we can, such as eating at our favourite coffee shop, walked around Ipoh to look at the buildings (before they are gone). This time hubs got to eat at the Hakka mee stall at Paris Restaurant along Jalan Sultan Iskandar (Hugh Low Street). We arrived at about 9.30am and there were only fishballs left to go with the hakka mee. Bummer. Didn’t take any photos of the hakka mee though.
As it was too early to check into the hotel, we decided to walk around the shops near the market and also along Jalan Sultan Iskandar (Hugh Low Street).
Saw this shop near the market which sells lots of plasticwares and etc. Wonder how they locate the things. Must be tedious when it’s time to close the shop for the day.
Spiral staircases from the back of the shophouses. There are many of these in Ipoh.
A textile shop along Jalan Sultan Iskandar (Hugh Low Street). I used to follow my mom to this shop to buy cloth. Everything remains unchanged, well except for the designs and colours of the cloth.
This shophouse is across the road from the textile shop. It has been abandoned for more than 40 years.
An old shophouse in Ipoh Old Town. Can you spot the old Bahasa Malaysia words?
Walking around Ipoh brings back so much memories. It is fun to go around Ipoh on foot if you are visiting. There are many interesting things to see and explore. Will post what I came across recently in my next post. Stay tuned.
