Disinfecting Our House

Everyone at home has been under the weather right after the Chinese New Year.  My mother was the first one to get sick.  Then it was hubs’ turn, followed by Ashley and then me.  All of us are better now but last week, my mother has got the sniffles again.  I guess there are many germs lingering in the air and my sister suggested that I disinfect the house with some vinegar.  I tried this method before many years ago during the SARS epidemic.  So, I took half a bottle of vinegar, mixed it with some water and pour everything into my old electric kettle.  I brought the kettle to the living room and let it boil for 10 mins.  After that, I moved to the kettle to the dining area, kitchen, all the bedrooms upstairs and repeated the boiling process.

A bottle of white vinegar which costs RM3

Vinegar & water boiling in the kettle

Vinegar is nature’s magic cleanser that kills mold, bacteria and germs.  I have read somewhere that vinegar can kill 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold and 80 percent of germs (viruses).  My cousin who used to work in a restaurant in the USA said most of the restaurants practice this method to disinfect the place.  They also use vinegar to wipe the tables and clean the chairs.  Now, my whole house has the sourish vinegar smell 😀  I hope all the germs and bacteria are gone now.

my mil used this method to disinfect her home too. yup, soury taste/smell thereafter for a day or two. but she just boiled the pot over the stove, and since is single level and the stove is kinda in the middle of the house, the air moved around and it did the job. your electric kettle way is good idea but i don’t think my mil has an electric kettle.
