Each time when Ashley has got the cold, my mum would tell me not to wash her hair. She said that if I wash her hair, the mucus flow would increase and she would take a longer time to heal. Bizzare eh? I asked her who told her this and she said some people told her many years ago. In case my mum is right, I would not wash Ashley’s hair during the 1st and 2nd day when she has a cold. However, on the 3rd day, I usually cannot stand it anymore and will give her a quick wash and blow-dry her hair throroughly. Have you heard of this before? Do you still wash your children’s hair when they have runny nose?

for kids, yes, esp when they r still young.. at least for a day or two…
for big elephants like us… wash la…as long as warm water..
Hi Babs, ha ha, thats the first time I read about it, not to wash the hair.
Its best you wash their hands as often as possible.
Most ailments caught are from hands.
Hope Ashley is okay now.
How you doin’? You keep well and have a great week, Lee.
I do not know who told me this before, but somehow I follow. I don’t wash my kids hair while they are having cold or sick.
i try to avoid getting her wet and cold if she’s having a high temparature. if it’s just a normal runny nose and cough, I do wash her hair but will use a hair dryer.
I never heard of this before. I don’t wash Gwen’s hair when she is having a cold or fever..hehe.
Traditional old folks will say NO NO to this and that. To avoid arguing further, i’ll just ‘entertain’ them by agreeing .. (so noti right) but i will still go ahead wash bathe etc be it flu or fever. No such thing as dont wash hair lah, OMG how to tahan! Kids having extremely high fever in hospital will go straight for shower to bring temp down…
i heard of this from my PIL. when my kid is running nose or cough, they ask me not to wash his hair. If my kid is having light running nose, i still wash his hair.
I don’t believe lar! How not to wash when the hair is all sweaty and stinky? I think this taboo originated from China where it’s darn cold in the winter and for that reason, of course you don’t bathe in the winter… when you’re sick… and those days there were no water heaters and hair dryers hehe!
It’s ok to wash and blow dry immediately after washing. Same concept for those in confinement. I washed my hair everyday for all 3 of my pregnancies. Thank God, I’m still ok now, no headache!
never..but my mom told me not to clean the nose with water or it will have more mucus…funny old folk tales..:)
Never heard of it before worrr.. Maybe I do not live with the elderly, therefore seldom heard of such ‘advice’ 🙂
If my girls have a cold, I avoid washing their hair, unless it is really dirty then a quick wash with warm water and blow dry. But I guess in Msia, with the humidity it is difficult not to wash their hair. A bit worried abt the heat and humidity when my girls and I visit in Oct.
Never heard about that. Anyway, I think after shower, blow dry her hair is best.
i donch wash chloe’s hair if she is sick.. if possible.. because my mom said.. can get head wind wor.. after become more sick.
Err yes! In fact whenever Bryan has a cold, we spend an extra long time in the bathroom. I’ll fill the room up with steam and we’ll play in there while bathing for a while. Helps clear the nose. But I make sure I dress him quickly as well lor and blowdry his hair a bit.
