The Mid Autumn Festival is just about a week away. I have been eating some mooncakes lately. Fattening huh? I usually don’t buy a box of them. Just one or two mooncakes which I fancy. Recently, I bought a Tiramisu mooncake from Baker’s Cottage.
Gosh it was so sweet that I could only stomach a small piece. Definitely not going to try their other new flavours. I heard that their Precious Black which features charcoal powder butter pastry skin with wolfberries are all sold out. I bought the Rich Chocolate Peanut Praline for Ashley as she has been asking for chocolate mooncakes. Unfortunately, she doesn’t like it. Too sweet maybe. Her favourite?
The traditional lotus paste mooncake with no yolk. She even takes out all the kuaci (lotus) seeds.
So, what’s your favourite mooncakes?
Actually, i don’t fancy mooncakes. Dunno why. Too sweet maybe. But, I do like the lanterns though. The traditional ones. not the sickening irritating china made battery operated ones. You should hear the music. Definitely no music to my ears thats for sure…
i know what you mean about the music. Ashley had 2 (her mah mah bought them) and I was so glad that she doesn’t fancy them. Otherwise, you would hear techno music in my house all day and night 😀
Not really a mooncake fan too esp. those funny funny flavours. The only one i like is most probably the pandan lotus egg yolk :p
As for me, there is no special cos i m not keen actually… i eat just for the sake of eating during this festive season and a small 1/8 portion will do.. any variety is fine with me and then that’s it.. but my kids love to take the plain ones, no egg yolks!
I’m not a big fan of mooncakes too, mainly because they are ridiculously expensive nowadays… but if i have to choose a favorite, i’ll go for the low-sugar plain lotus.
i don’t fancy mooncake a lot too. Mostly i will just get the original taste, pure lotus with or without yolk. Every year i will get myself one green tea mooncake from Cottage Bakers, but late year i think it taste not so nice already.
I only like the plain red bean ones…especially the snow skin! =)
Lotus paste with 4 egg yolks 🙂 And the snow-skinned ones too :):)
I love Shanghainese and snow-skinned ones; my parents love mixed nuts ones; my kids love the normal lotus paste with no yolk; hubby hates every type of them! Hahaha
The tiramisu one looks good though! I saw one chocolate mint flavour and was tempted to buy it, but since no one else in the house is a fan, i decided against it 🙁
she looked as though she was salvaging the best for last… 🙂
My favorite mooncake is no mooncake at all LOL.
I love the ones with no frills packaging.. the ones wrapped in transparent packaging with a red sticker. and I only like lotus flavour WITHOUT egg yolk pls, never really like the fancy mancy type.
ya lo, super expensif those mooncakes, especially those made by 5star hotels. crazee! but sedap lor 🙂
This Tiramisu also very sweet to my liking, tried it back in few weeks time.. I still prefer the traditional filling like mixed nut, lotus yolk those and ping pei is my top favourite..
I’ve never fancy traditional mooncakes. I prefer Haagen Dazs ‘mooncakes’ 😛
Hi Mrs Barb, Hope you are feeling better. My cousin and me prefer Tai Pan mini mooncakes(not too sweet). There are many flavours on sale in Hong Kong but I think we still prefer the ice layer mini mooncakes.
dun like those new flavours…….i feel the best is still the lotus and red bean paste =)
i love all kinds of mooncakes..
this time, I didnt drool because I just had a big piece of mooncake. Hahahaha… I still prefer a more traditional one, lotus paste with kuaci. Too bad, can’t get Msian brand mooncake here.
she closes her eyes as she savour the mooncake. sweet looking.
From me to you, suejean =)
I don’t really fancy mooncakes too coz they are just too sweet, even the low-sugar ones. I like the plain jue jai peng or koong jai peng without any filling. Also like the mooncakes with an assortment of nuts and seeds.
I don’t fancy mooncakes either. But I do like the “ping pei” mooncakes..hehe.
i like the traditional taste best too. others just taste too fake.
wahh sold out huh?? not bad eh for a newcomer 😉 mine will be the Golden Treasure from Hilton KL (snow skin edible gold with kahlua & tiramisu paste) & TT durian mooncake… yummy!!
Mooncakes are getting way too pricey here in Singapore.
All the hotels seem to be trying to outdo each other, coming up with all sorts of mooncakes and ridiculously priced ones too.
This year, the price for Raffles Hotel Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle and Ganache has increased to SGD52 per box. 🙁
